Morning, hope you all find me!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
FjorgynAndHotWater · 16/11/2010 11:14

Fuckity fuck shit bollocks. Took the car in for service/MOT today and the buggery bollocking head gasket has gone and they reckon it might cost upto £800 to fix, or maybe even more

hippy you really should go to crispy's if you can, it's v lush there Smile

UrsulaUndress · 16/11/2010 11:16

Shock sorry hots Sad

FjorgynAndHotWater · 16/11/2010 11:23

Thanks ursula, luckily I did do have some savings so can afford to pay it, but feel rather Sad at the thought of how much fun I could have had spending it on me.

TwilightSurfer · 16/11/2010 11:28

Hipster I read a Room too (and saw the movie) and can't remember a thing about it. So the most memorable thing about it must be it's not very memorable.Hmm

Tiara #1...

Ursula I am at the shopping ready.Wink

DD2 is asleep on the sofa. Not sure when she came in here last night but felt sick walking into her room and not finding her there first thing.Shock

HippyHippopotamus · 16/11/2010 11:49

thanks ursula Grin That's exactly what i was thinking about the book! apart from not even coming across Cecil in the story yet so i'm off to double check you're not leading me up a long winding path that ends up in a different book!

TS not surprised! your heart must have had a bit of a jolt to see she wasn't where she was meant to be

fjorgnrytuuwu that's really shit. bad enough at any time of year but particularly now

ooh my miniest mn alarm is sounding. off to see what i can do for her ladyship Smile

enyahadenough · 16/11/2010 11:58

Shock ts that would make u feel sick, good call on tiara no1..

fjor what a complete bummer on the car lottery this weekend???

hip you should def break your trip up at crispy Grin.. in fact crisp i don't think we are that far away so we really should try a mini meet up too Grin..

about to attempt brownies for secod time, poor little dd2 is full of cold again despite the probiotics i forcefeed her Hmm

CrispyTheCrisp · 16/11/2010 11:59

Oh no Fjorn Sad. Cars are just fab.......until they go wrong. Grrrrrrr. Can you get any other quotes for it? As long as the engine hasn't gone, i wouldn't have thought it should cost so much? The gasket is just a little cork thing, costing a few pence, but they have to take the head off the engine to replace it. However £800 sounds a bit ott to me.

Loving minisurfers midnight relocation. Perhaps midisurfer was snoring? Grin

CrispyTheCrisp · 16/11/2010 12:01

Enya - only an hour or so i think Shock. We are rubbish Grin

FjorgynAndHotWater · 16/11/2010 12:46

Thanks guys for your commiserations, am hoping that it's only recently happened so there won't be too much damage and it won't cost that much. It only had an oil change 4 weeks ago so surely they would have spotted then if anything was wrong...

Love those tiaras TS and am wondering whether to get a metal one for DD now. All the plastic ones get snapped by Thor channelling his inner princess Hmm

enyahadenough · 16/11/2010 13:19

Jesh these brownies are hard work! Done everything that you said hip but they are really runny inside as if not cooked Hmm a baker I am not!!!

FjorgynAndHotWater · 16/11/2010 13:32

enya they are supposed to be a bit runny still in the middle then they set to a fudgy goodness on cooling. You could always just bung em back in the oven for another 10 minutes Smile

aDarkStarWithStrangeWays · 16/11/2010 13:53

Fjorgs how rubbish. Although it revolts me to suggest it, I reckon you should drive to another garage and get DH to go in and ask for a quote - make out like he's the driver, let him pretend he's lost his license so the wife is having to drive him around. You might get a better offer (because garage staff are often sexist twats).

enyahadenough · 16/11/2010 14:07

Brownie lump now cooling so will wait and see smell good tho Grin

agree with star fjor I always get h to go to garage for me as was sick of getting taken for a ride. Difference is unbelieveable!

FjorgynAndHotWater · 16/11/2010 14:26

I know what you mean, but it's too late, have already told them to go ahead. I do trust them though, have taken it in before now for them to tell me nothing's wrong and not charge me so hopefully it won't be too bad.

Mmmm could just scoff some brownies now [greedy]

Silkstalkings · 16/11/2010 15:53

Enya, the key is to take them out runny in the middle and leave them overnight. Impossible if you make them yourself so best order Bibi's.

Silkstalkings · 16/11/2010 16:03

Talking of cakes, I made some great little non-fruitcake Christmas spongecakes this week. Was just a 4by4 sponge with added cherries, mixed dried fruit, dessicated coconut, some chopped nuts and a dash of almond essence. All the Christmassy flavour without that slightly overcooked taste of traditional fruitcake that many people don't like.

Other news, Kurt's use of catch ("hats") is definitely a verb, not just parroting. He was watching Grandpa in My Pocket and yelled "Bampaaaaa, hats Bampaaaaa!" when Grandpa shrunk and flew off in his plane.

RedLentil · 16/11/2010 16:43

Hip - a bit late with the Forster advice.
But, mutter 'Only connect' enigmatically.
Then venture that Forster was as neglected in the 20thC as Wordsworth was in the 19th.

Everyone will be too scared to ask you anything else.

Or, tell them to grow up and read Howard's End. Wink

I love Room with a View but haven't read it since I taught it in Dublin in .... 1997. Shock

RedLentil · 16/11/2010 16:47

Great news on the verb Silks Smile and those cakes sound lovely.

salta · 16/11/2010 17:02

Yes, silk, we don't have many verbs here. Am struggling to think of any, but know we must have had some ...

Oh yes. Wear.

As in wear shoes, wear shirt.

Go go go daddy in the mornings.

But we do have "sad" used correctly which is in fact quite helpful.

As in "don't hit your sister it makes her sad"

and "DD sad"

"boy sad"

Yesterdays new word "minibus"

and nowhere remotely near counting or recognising numbers apart from some hopeful noises in Spanish but ...

He can correctly identify by pointing all 15 of the trains from Thomas and friends ... so I am clearly teaching the important things.

But, FFS DD is talking.

At the rate that she is learning she will have more words than DS. Makes me "mummy sad" although proud of her too! She took a couple of steps in teh park today.

salta · 16/11/2010 17:07

Oh yes, and three bilingual words as in:

"Daddy says barco, what does mummy say?"

And he also answers Moose when someone asks his name in either language. Very cute.

Anyway. I need to go. Am arsing around feeling slightly constipated hoping that the two cups of coffee that I have just drunk will do the trick, but I suspect not before we need to go out.

In the spirit of oversharing of course

HippyHippopotamus · 16/11/2010 17:10

ooh exciting silk, DS has just started using verbs too! he gets a middle muddled and just keeps repeating the first bit til he remembers the word he needs but its all very sweet!
your sponge cakes sound delicious!

enya yes, be brave! get them out the oven before they looked properly cooked! it took me a fair few batches to be brave enough to take my own advice!

thanks red but not too late! we've actually all had a reprieve because a stuck up his own arse author who loves the sound of his own voice surprised us with a visit Hmm I may have been a bit aggressive but seriously he preferred the main character of his book over his newborn daughter So girls, i don't want to see any more plot spoilers, i'm off to finish reading it Smile

fjyorhgn hope you get a nice surprise when you get the bill
love the thought of thor challenging his inner princess Grin

HippyHippopotamus · 16/11/2010 17:16

thanks for your oversharing salta Smile

BibiBelle · 16/11/2010 18:42

love a bit of oversharing salta Grin

evening all else

Hips - head to Cripsters and try to arrive at dinner time for some of Dave's delish food Grin

BibiBelle · 16/11/2010 18:43

BibiBelle · 16/11/2010 18:47
