SL - Linus is as cute as ever !!

One of dd's godparents-to-be was here this weekend and doesn't have children of her own and was showing off photos of dd in her office which apparently escalated into a 'my dd/s/god daughter/neice/ nephew is the cutest' competition and she said dd won (but then again think she is biased !!)...

Nik72 · 18/09/2005 09:12

Oh dear, we had a rotten night last night as poor dd has her second cold in as many weeks (ruddy nursery & it's germs!) and she was so bunged up & miserable. She seems a bit better this morning though sneezed while I was giving her breakfast and sent porridge & green snot flying everywhere! Luckily tomorrow's a public holiday so I'm off work.

Tipex, I'm doing 3 days a week - I work half in GP and the rest at a family planning centre, which is great fun. Like you I started doing something else (O&G) but found it too stressful and the hours were awful - I think switching careers was the best thing I ever did.

Lol at the health visitor comment though, they do get far more of a pasting! And there are some pants GPs out there, one nearly killed my SIL once!! I was surprised at how little being medical helps at all with parenthood, I felt completely clueless about being a mum and the only times it's an advantage being a doctor is when she's ill & even then it's hard to be objective about your own child. Mumsnet has been a huge help, esp when I was struggling to breastfeed and I've learned so much - I'd go as far as to say that mumsnet has made me a better GP!

Spoo, we're off to Perthshire - one of my favourite parts of the world. We'll go walking if it's nice weather & prop up the bar if not! Should be fun.

Nik72 · 18/09/2005 10:07

Heck - I'm the oldest here.......

Spoo · 18/09/2005 15:04

hey Nik - hope you have fun. OD you mind me asking how old you are? Is 72 the clue? If so there is not much in it.

Glad to here that you are enjoying work. I was not really keen on being the stay home type and was looking forward to going back. (Now I am not so sure). I'm not quite sure what everyone will think when I say I am pregnant AGAIN. That said - my mum is still laughing - three days later!

I am an engineer! Not the sort that mends washing machine but design roads, bridges etc.
Tip - I was very sick last time. Every morning I was sick on the way to work. I am not sure when it started though and I have my fingers crossed that this time won't be so severe.

I have been worried about the temperature too and have put the c.h. on 24 hours now. (Apparently it is cheaper!)

Hazellnut · 18/09/2005 18:09

shhh tipex, don't tell everyone !! Not something I'm proud of !

Can't believe we're all now worrying about the cold - only seems like last week I was worrying about dd being too hot in 30 degree temperatures and now like you I am worrying about dd being too cold ! Arrghh...

pjsmum · 19/09/2005 12:51

I thought it was just me that was worried about the cold. Brought her one of those sleeping bag things at the weekend cos she wouldn't keep any blankets on. Put the heating on too, a nightmare cos i'm too warm now! Oh well as long as dd is ok. In the who does what line, i'm a teacher

futurity · 19/09/2005 14:09

I'm a web designer and I'm 31!

roosmum · 19/09/2005 15:24

hello all!

we have a tooth! a tiny white line of tooth at the bottom on the left, & i'm far more excited abt it than i should be

it might explain the whinging & v. snotty nose??
tipex - roo slept from 11ish until 5.30 last night, to our surprise, so there is hope! it might have been a one-off tho...

& my phd is literature: C18th women's writing oh but it's not as interesting as tiny teeth!

roosmum · 19/09/2005 15:31

starlover - a nappy problem...
bought a popolini onesize (exactly the same as meos i think) BUT it only just, ie on v. last popper, fits roo

he's only 7.5 mths & this is meant to be a birth-potty nappy...do you find your meos come up small?? i like the nappy but as for only just fitting, think it's stoopid! much prefer dizzy diaper shape-wise, tho it leaked on first use after only 1 prewash, will try again & hopefully will be better after a few more washes.
(should've just got a couple more bumbles, i love em!)

Hazellnut · 19/09/2005 16:28

I think Roo must have stolen some sleep from dd Roosmum !! My usually good sleeper woke up at midnight and refused to go to sleep until 2.30 am.... At first we thought she was ill as she'd had a runny nose during the day so felt sorry for her and dosed her up with calpol which had no effect so then tried all the teething stuff to no avail and in the end decided she was just being a pickle !! I'm hoping it was just the fact we had had so many people here over the weekend got her all excited rather than the start of a new phase...... Ah well, guess we can't have it good all the time ! hope it IS a start of a new phase for you Roosmum.

Tipex: yeap..that's where the name comes from. Although I couldn't design a site at the moment for anything as I am suffering from lack of sleep and putting up with grumpy Sam (teething I think..one tooth through..only another 19 to go!)

jolly4 · 19/09/2005 22:45

spoo congrats and i think i am the oldest 40 and would love another i was a late starter roosmum my ds birthday is same as yours 26th march well katy sitting clapping hands and really a laugher she is so funny been ay work a week and knakkered just off too bed now just popped on too say hello to you all tipex sl futurity angeliz hazelnut fruitful, nik72 gossifer anyone i missed hi well goodnight xxxxxxx

pjsmum · 20/09/2005 20:44

Well tooth number 3 is in its way, spotted it this morning. no wonder she's been so miserable and explains why she's not been sleeping. For some reason having a reason for her disturbed sleeps makes me feel less knackered! Does that make sense?! Tipex, i teach juniors (or did do) feels an age ago that i was there. Not back til jan and not looking forward to it at all.

Hazellnut · 22/09/2005 17:57

Hi All - jsut thought you might all like a laugh at teh poo-ey day I've had today. Decided to be good and go to the gym but to a postnatal class but this is a new one and dashed in late at 10.30 only to find that the class wasn't till 11.30 - I wondered why all the people in the class looked at me strangely carrying a baby into the class !! I had had to wake dd up to take her too... grr.... then ended up being an hour late meeting my nct lot partly because as I pulled into the car parking space I scraped the car....
decided to ring dh and admit straight away so I didn't have to worry about telling him all afternoon !! AND the strap to my skip hop bag has broken !! I've only had it a few weeks.grrr.. don't know how it happened but the over the shoulder clip on the strap has snapped. I have superglued it so hope it will stay on ok.

Oh well -we're off to france for two weeks on Sunday - hoorah !! Can't wait although a bit daunted by the packing at the mo !

jolly4 · 22/09/2005 22:55

hi all just poped on again to let you all know katy,s first tooth appeared yesterday and same as pjsmum katy been grogy for a couple of weeks now we know why is this the begining of another set back evry time teeth are cuttin through

starlover · 24/09/2005 16:44

hello everyone!

am back from devon at last. we've had a nivce week... weather has been fab, and linus had his first visit to the seaside! he loved the sand and was happily crawling around the pools at westward ho! until he ftried to do his fave trick of picking stuff up with his mouth and came up all wet and sandy!!!

he has been busy trying out standing up without holding on. not overyl successful... but he's getting there.

his teeth seem to have disappeared! but apparently they can show and then disappear again, so not too worried... just jealous off all your toothy babes! lol

ROOSMUM... haven't tried the popolino... I definitely don't think that they MEO's will last linus until potty trained. but they are ok for a while longer i think... he has them on the second or third popper, depending if i have added extra boosters!

Hello all
Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend

We had a night out last night (woo hoo!), DS refused to sleep for the agency babysitter who helped herself to all sorts of food including opening a cake! We will not be using her again!!
We had fun though and DS seems unaffected by the experience

W0MBAT · 25/09/2005 18:49

So so behind with this thread! DD has been teething last few days and can see her bottom teeth coming through. She's going through a lot of pain and still hasn't got over her cold, poor thing.

SL - Linus is going to walking any second now. What a superstar!

BlondeinLondon - glad you enjoyed your night off. Cheeky babysitter though.

I'm 28 by the way so in the middle.

blondeinlondon... that is SO cheeky of the babysitter! glad you enjoyed your night out though... i need some more of those!

wombat... sorry your dd has still got her cold she'll probably feel better once those teeth have come through though

tipex... so glad the sleeping is better! when linus is resisting sleep i normally just put him in the cot and just keep going in and popping dummy back in, covering him back up and give him a kiss until he finally drops off... sometimes feels like i do it for hours though!

for our newly revealed GPs on here, i have a question (this is why you never told us before!!!!)...can little babies get sore throats? and if so is there anything you can give them? Linus is reeeeeeeeeally croaky and has been for the past couple of days... not having any trouble eating or drinking but a bit off colour generally.
any ideas???????????

Nik72 · 25/09/2005 20:32

Am gobsmacked by that babysitter, blonde!! At least if she spent her time raiding your fridge she probably wasn't poking through your drawers...!

Starlover, good to hear you had a lovely holiday, my parents are trying to pursuade us to do a family trip to Devon next year. Poor Linus with his cold, I'm sure babies can get sore throats. I've always thought (on no scientific basis whatsoever!) that neurofen is better than calpol if they're sore for some reason. You can get stuff called difflam spray for the throat but I wouldn't use it unless he was having trouble taking fluids (and I can't remember if it's OK under a year).

Had a quiet weekend here, dd started sitting on her own and is less snotty but has a chesty cough. Think I need to face it that chances are she'll get one cold after another all winter but it's really b*ggered up her sleep. Serves me right for feeling so smug about her sleeping through before .

starlover · 25/09/2005 20:39

nik where are you located? the drive to devon from here (sussex) wasn't that great! Linus was gettig really bored sat in the seat all day and just whinged most of the time so we had loads of stops!
on the way back we waited til evening so at least he slept most of the way but we were knackered when we got in!

anyway, depending on what part you're going to i can recommend a lovely holiday cottage, near to bideford.

will definitely try the nurofen and see if that helps at all. if not will take him to the doctor. my mum said perhaps he has a throat infection... but he doesn't seem to be in that much pain iyswim?
