sparlover · 15/09/2005 22:12

no. well, thinking abiout it. but dp isn't overly enthusiastic!!1 lol

Spoo · 15/09/2005 22:14

I am not sure I would have wanted it this way but i suppose I have no choice now. DH is taking it in his stride. I am freaking out! It will be fun in a few years time when it is all over!

Spoo · 15/09/2005 22:14

I meant the baby bit is all over!

pjsmum · 16/09/2005 11:24

Oh so jealous Spoo. Congratulations! I've been thinking about another for a while but think its more looking for a reason not to go back to work!! Ever! DD still not crawling but getting nearer to it every day. Had a really horrible choking experience the other week and have avoided giving her finger food since. I know not good but it really scared me. Gave her toast this am, stood over her like a woman possessed. Why do they have to cramp as much as possible in their mouths as once? Or is it just my dd?

sparlover · 16/09/2005 11:26

no linus does this too! yesterday i gave him some toast and i went to get his drink and when i got back he had shoved 3 soldiers in his mouth all at once!

the choking must have been VERY scary for you... hope dd is ok

Hazellnut · 16/09/2005 14:17

Congratulations Spoo !! I know someone who has 3 in 2.9 years (first two a year apart) so that's what you have to aspire to

PJsmum - the choking must have been horrid ... I dread that happening but agree they do try and stuff in as much as they can. I'm constantly saying 'finish that mouthful first' as if she can understand .... Just tried the omlette fingers here which seemed to go down well although not quite sure how much ended up in her tummy and how much on the floor !!

Nik72 · 16/09/2005 15:13

Congratulations Spoo!!! How exciting! We've been vaguely TTC (after initially thinking I NEVER wanted to be pg EVER again) but it took nearly 4 years first time around so I'm not exactly holding my breath. Took dd to visit her Great Great Great Aunt (!) yesterday, who is a pretty cool 91 year old who does yoga (she can still stand on her head) and smokes like a chimney - and she told me her mother had her first 5 babies in 5 years!! Can you imagine????

That choking thing sounds scary, Pjsmum, hope you're OK.

We've booked 2 nights away next month and my parents are baby sitting. Hope I won't fret too much! Have also got a girl's weekend away in Leeds in November but probably will be too drunk to fret as much....

No crawling here yet, though she has been dragging herself across the floor on her tummy a couple of times, looks very uncomfortable!

Spoo · 16/09/2005 17:40

Thanks girls. I am starting to recover fromo the initial shock. When I told my mum this morning she just laughed, which made me feel loads better!
PJ - Toby had a choking experience too. He found the top of a screw cover - probably the size of a smartie on the kitchen floor. I keep such a tidy house but this had fallen off a pin board that we have in our kitchen.

I did not notice unti l we sat down for dinner. He started choking during taking a drink - it was only after a thump on the back did this bit of plastic came up along with his whole dinner. I was shaking after. All sympathies to you. I suppose it is just a right of passage and one of many adventures we will have.

Good luck with your night away Nik. I have tried to persuade DH that it would do us good but he not sure about leaving Toby. I thought us girls were meant to be protective. Where are you going?

fruitful · 16/09/2005 19:26

Well Tipex, ds is bottlefed and still wakes for a feed at about 10pm and then about 4-5am, then up at 7am (woken by dd). Mind you, at this age dd was breastfed and waking at 10, 1, 4 and 7. I know what you mean about not getting a full nights sleep for months. Haven't had 2 full nights sleep in a row for 3 years now. It doesn't seem that bad now - I think I've adjusted.

Ds was doing really well with the food and then got a cold and only wants milk. Bizarrely enough her seems to prefer the green stuff (spinach, broccoli) to the orange (carrots, squash). The really good news is that he isn't sicking up the solids, only the milk, so there is hope for my carpets.

Gossifer, have you tried eggy bread?

Ds is not even sitting let alone crawling; I wish he'd hurry up - he's getting bored of lying flat and he's outgrowing the bouncy chair.

Congratulations Spoo!

Tipex - are you a doc? I'm a GP but tend to keep it under wraps as there's often a bit of GP-bashing on the threads.

I'm 33 in answer to the age question.

Spoo · 16/09/2005 22:20

31 for me and feeling every year!

starlover · 17/09/2005 16:09

i am 25!!! am i the youngest?

hmm, i bet you 2 are lovely gp's! i have to admit to doing a bit of gp-bashing myself on here but my gp IS a wanker!
my old one was really lovely and I did ask if I could carry on seeing her when we moved but I had to register with the local surgery instead

Just be glad you aren't health visitors... now they get seriously bashed on here!!!!!

I'm 33 too. And my GP is also lovely! Never ever makes me feel like a paranoid mum.

Ds has a cold. I hope. We started giving him yoghurt on Saturday (after a week of just fruit and veg). By Thursday he had red eyes and a streaming nose and is grumpy. Dh has minor milk intolerance. Please, please, let it be a cold...

starlover · 17/09/2005 20:11

hehe there is one here

we're getting awfully slack at updating his website though
but there might be something new if you haven't looked recently [grin}

hey spoo, congrats on your bean! hope you're feeling ok, must be hard to be pg & look after a little one.

nik...hope it happens for you too!

i'd love another one, but just can't imagine it just now, also would have to bin my phd if pg again within the next couple of years, don't really understand why that makes me
roo still doesn't really sleep or eat well, so it could be easier.

but i'm younger than starlover at 24, so i have time on my side i guess (dh is 33 tho).

any suggestions for a cute present for a little girl's first birthday?? nothing too expensive, & that can be easily posted??

starlover · 17/09/2005 21:44

when is your birthday roosmum? i am only just 25

OP posts:
roosmum · 17/09/2005 21:48

26th march.

so i'm almost exactly 24.5

starlover · 17/09/2005 21:55

darn...a whole half a year younger!

OP posts:
starlover · 17/09/2005 22:01

birthday present wise i would probably go for something boring like clothes! easy to post! or a little dolly

OP posts:
roosmum · 17/09/2005 22:05

clothes, hmm...i'm tempted to buy something ridiculously pretty & overpriced from monsoon, it comes of not having a dd i think! or maybe a jellycat toy..?? or a cute book, no baby should grow up without the hungry caterpillar etc!

Hazellnut · 18/09/2005 07:57

Hi All - on MN a bit early this morning as have a whole gang (well 4 people) staying, one left at 6.30 this morning so got up to say good bye and get dd up to let dh have a lie in for putting up with all my girl friends here this weekend(normally she comes into bed with us for a bit)... Anyway, gives me time to catch up as have not been on for a couple of days !

roosmum - I keep meaning to get dd the hungry caterpillar - you can get the board book in a set with a cuddy catterpillar if you haven't seen this !! V. cute but maybe not that postable (I usually send books or toys from amazon for childrens birthdays if they are away ... which is probably a bit lazy !!).

Tipex/Nik72 - you kept that quiet !! Now you know we'll all be coming to you to diagnose our ailments on line (another reason to have kept it quiet !). Actually its good to know you worry about all the same things - choking etc.. mind you guess that means there is no hope for the rest of us !! And bet you are both great GPs - it would be great to go to a young female gp... have no complaints about mine though !

Age wise - left my twenties a couple of months back so 30 here !

Right best go rescue dd - she is rolling around in her sleeping bag and getting herself tied in knots !
