linus seems to make less mess with them than he does with rusks.
mind you, he has taken to shoving as much as possible in his mouth all at once and just waiting for it to dissolve!

I think you're right starlover - everything in moderation! Have been driving DH nuts at the supermarket analysing packets for nutritional content. Note to self: stop being so **ing neurotic!!!

PMSL at the Annabel Karmel recipe - it's basically toast & marmite isn't it?

Have taken a days holiday today to ease myself back into work gently. Nursery is paid for so I've dropped her off and am having some time to myself - am off to the hairdressers for a long overdue haircut.

Anyone else got chronic backache? All this picking up, putting down & my back is killing me. Despite being a midget she's feeling pretty heavy these days.

starlover · 09/09/2005 20:17

nik i do it too! and every now and then i have to stop myself and realise that a bit of something bad isn't going to do him any harm!

i am slightly worried about the whole marmite thing, although have seen it in another book today as well... marmite is SO high in salt isn't it?
althouh again, i suppose every now and then do4esn't hurt...

yes, major backache here too.... Linus was 20lb on monday!

Hazellnut · 09/09/2005 23:19

Nik 72 - LOL - I knew I'd seen a recipe for rusks somewhere but it was only when I was typing it out I realised it was in fact, just toast !!! I too do that 'can't have sugar etc' but if I think about it, sugar is only natural after all and am sure I had it in moderation and am fine ! Guess its all just another thing to worry about ! SL - agree about marmite and salt. I heard a HV talking to someone who's 10 month old would ONLY eat toast and marmite and she was saying you mustn't give them too much marmite cos of the salt..... but must be tricky if thats all they eat !!

Am leaving dd in the hands of my parents tomorrow night ALL NIGHT as am off to a wedding - dreading it !! Will miss her LOADS !! But guess need to do these things.......

Well I was still breastfeeding but I chose to stop today so I didn't feed him in the morning and he had a beaker (and he wasn't bothered at all!). I know I will be an emotional mess for a while until hormones settle down (same thing happened first time round) but will be nice to get rid of the excess weight I am carrying round and get back into normal clothes again.

Well.... we survived the night away. DD was absolutely fine but I cried a little when we left (pathetic I know) but my mum kept texting me to say what she'd be doing. When we got home today though she was really sulking with me and dh and wouldn't look at me for ages which at least I guess this means she missed us !!

Won't be doing it again in a hurry but it was nice to have a day not having to worry about bottles and food and nappies !!

Good luck back at work Tipex !

starlover · 11/09/2005 20:25

hi tipex! good to have you back.
i have to saw i just bought a bigger motherease wrap as i get on quite well with them! hate any wrap with velcro, because it seems to make such a big, stiff band round their waist... specially when they are sat up.
If you like velcro ones though i used to use litewraps for linus when he was little and it's the best one i have ever had. twinkleontheweb stock them (think it's 4th down on the wraps page)... pretty reasonable price as well
i also like my nature babies wraps, although i know a few people on here really don't get on with them!
i HATE my tots pul wrap, definitely wouldn't advise going for one of those
at the moment we are still using fuzzi bunz a lot of the time though, so no need for a wrap at all, which is rather fab!

futurity... i felt awful when i gave up b/f too why does it have such an effect on us? it's weird. glad that your ds took his beaker ok though!

and well done hazellnut! i am wondering about doing an overnighter once my mum and dad have sorted out a cot at their place for linus.... just to see what it's like! we've left him plenty of times for the evening, but i can't imagine not being there for him when he wakes up!

and talking of waking up.... linus now greets us in the morning standing up in his cot! after a mere 2(ish) weeks of crawling he has progressed to pulling himself up on the furniture!!!
today we have invested in a playpen, which he was none too pleased about... but seeing as he makes a beeline for our spirits rack every time he is let loose (vodka in particular!) we think it is necessary!

OP posts:
futurity · 11/09/2005 21:34

he's been having beaker for his other feeds for a while now..i was just doing the morning feed in the end and was taking each day as it comes and the other morning I just decided to stop. It's already had an advantage as when he woke at 6 this morning due to MASSIVE poo I could change him, give him his beaker (which he downed in a few minutes!) and put him back to bed and he slept until 7..previously I would have had to breastfeed him back to sleep and hold him for another hour (he woke as soon as i put him down!)..although this was lovely at first it soon lost it's appeal!

I now, though, no longer have the excuse of breastfeeding as to why I am still a stone heavier than I would like to be!! Better start doing something about it!

futurity · 11/09/2005 21:36

Starlover..I would place bets on Linus walking before he is one!!

gossifer · 12/09/2005 09:10

heelo all - hope you had a good weekend

wow! cannot believe linus standing up starlover!

futurity - congrats on having your body back! i'm thinking about how much i'll miss that closeness with leon and i feel for you

hazelnut - a whole night away! wow! like starlover i've done lots of nights out but not an allnighter! have something vague planned for last weekend in sept with a girlfriend - but we'll see - don't know how i'll cope!

leon still frustrated but bobbling back and fore on his hands and knees and sliding around backwards and getting stuck in corners!

tipex, i have finally got leon to take a bottle! after many tears (from me feeling inadequate) so he now only has a 7am feed and a 7pm and 9pm feed on the booby, the rest is the 3 meals and 2 bottles at 11am and 3pm, and my boobs are not quite coping with whats going on! i wuldn't worry about how big the feeds are, if ds is eating well just make sure he gets enough water; i think it's more about how they seem, if they're happy and bouncing around and talking and crying then they're ok! hope that helps!

i'm trying to work from home 2 days a week but its v.hard, but i know i'm lucky to have this extra time with leon
he starts nursery in october - so i have to face the whole settling in - yeeek!!

roosmum · 13/09/2005 15:53

hello mummies!

tipex & gossifer...still bfing here & no intention of giving up anytime soon. hope you get some pretty underwear to celebrate futurity - i'm looking forward to that...one day!

roo currently being amused by finding nemo, i know i shd probably be reading with him or something...but having a break to just get a coffee & post here it's such a pretty film tho, & he's quite mesmerised! have been out to a baby group this am & done the supermarket, so need a little rest. supposed to be off to big scream tomorrow with lovely postnatal group, so shd be fun (but not if nice weather holds)

also waiting to hear if we've got a place to start babysigning next month, really hope so...

nappies....nik & starlover, do you have any fluffles yet?? wondering what they're like...tempted by a bamboozle cos they're meant to feel v.silky & are nice n natural...? glad your bumbles are good starlover, i love mine!
who wanted to know abt wraps?? have to say that my ME airflow is lovely, wouldn't get aplix ones tho. like SL, i'm a fan of nature babies popper wrap but wd stay away from velcro. have used them over prefolds & terries, so versatile & come in cool prints/colours. also agree that tots wraps are horrible...don't mind cotton bottom wraps & have a lovely bear behinds cowprint wrap which is a bit big so hardly used yet.

right, going to play with my son

roosmum · 13/09/2005 15:57

ooh & well done linus...def will be walking before 1 & starlover will need eyes in the back of her head

& nice one hazellnut getting a night to yourself, i'd LOVE that but couldn't go through with it even if offered on a plate i think (sad obsessed mum, who thinks no-one else can look after her baby!). anyhow, he still doesn't sleep well (how's it going tipex??), so not remotely an option sleep training (of a sort) continues chez roosmum!

Hazellnut · 13/09/2005 16:17

Wow at Linus - I'll put bets on walking at 10 months !! DD is beginning to pull herself up from sitting to standing if you hold out hands but legs wobble around in elvis-esque fashion !! Also hasn't mastered crawling but does enjoy rocking backwards and forwards !!

Roosmum - was the baby group a sort of 'mother and baby' church hall type play group - don't know why but they scare the life out of me. Haven't been to one but just the thought .... We went to our swimming class today and dd slipped when sitting on the steps and ended up underwater on her back. V scarey but after she'd had a little cry she was fine. Luckily the mum next to me said 'I've drop dd1 like that - I think it scares us more than them'..... and I'd put off doing the proper class dunking them in the water bit so should have done it so at least she knew what she was doing !!

Off to a music group thing tomorrow for the first time...

How's work tipex ??

Nik72 · 13/09/2005 16:55

My fluffles & bamboozles arrived yesterday, Roosmum so prewashed them once & she's been in them today. The fluffles dried really fast and are very soft but I reckon need a bit more washing for absorbancy. They have a pocket so could take a booster for overnight. The bamboozles are LOVELY - I can't believe something so thin & silky can be that absorbant - am very impressed. They both seem better than the standard towelling tots so far. Mind you they haven't been subjected to exploding poo yet!

W0MBAT · 13/09/2005 17:13

Sorry haven't posted for a while but have been away. DD and I have both had terrible colds too, which has been pretty miserable. She seems to be getting over it now thank goodness.

I also miss BF. I did it for 4 months but would have liked to have done it for a year but we had major problems. Would have been much easier to have been BF holiday as the med doesn't seem to be as keen on formula feeding so finding milk is pretty hard. They charge about £20 for a tub of formula that is £6 here.

Wow Linus is doing really well SL. My dd is sitting up in her cot when I get her in the morning, which is cute.

I am leaving my dh with my dd on Saturday night so I can stay at my friend's for the night. Looking forward to a lie-in on Sunday morning but will miss seeing her first thing.

Hazellnut - I haven't done the swimming lessons but my friend has and she showed me the dunking. I dunked dd very briefly and she seemed to like it. Not keen to try it again though as concerned that she might open her mouth under water.

DD was fine after her soaking - just shocked I think but it will make me do the 'teaching them to go under water' bit in the lesson in future as she may as well learn in case it happens again !! She did cry in the bath tonight which she never does but I think she was just v. tired rather than having flashbacks . Mind you, she's covered in spots and blotches so I have that to worry about instead. DH is convinced (without having seen it) it is Chicken Pox as we are going on hols a week on sunday but I don't think it is. Hopefully just a reaction to chlorine or something.... worry worry .... sigh.....

Glad work is going well Tipex !

W0MBAT · 13/09/2005 21:08

Tipex, glad you enjoyed your day back at work. Sorry to hear about the sleeping problems. My dd started to wake up once in the night again last week so have started trying to wake her up for a feed at 10ish. This seems to do the trick of getting her to sleep through the night. She does wake up at 6 every day though and only once went through to 7. I remember waking up at the time thinking 'oh my god, something's happened to her!'.

I will definitely appreciate that lie-in and thanks for making sure I do.

starlover · 13/09/2005 21:25

yes, Linus is well away with the standing up. Took me 45 minutes to get him to have a sleep this afternoon because every time i put him down he stood up again! nightmare! He has also taken a liking to the vodka bottle on our "wine" rack!
Had a visit from Lockets today with her dd2, and he was VERY interested in her! thought she was a new toy for him to play with i think. Anyway, i have been bust converting her to cloth napies and sent her away with a few to trial! lol

roosmum... don't have a fluffle or bamboozle yet... need to persuade dp that i need some! lol
having said that i am enjoying the nappies i have right now... and they are quite expensive so may have to wait a while!

gossifer... Linus did that whole bobbing back and forth thing for ages before he started to crawl... but it was certainly the start of it! Eventually he just managed to shuffle forward a bit and it's been non-stop since then so watch out!!!

Tipex... glad that ds is settling ok with his childminder. Bet you sit there and think about him all day don't you! I think other people;s babies do wake up.... they just don't tell you that! I certainly know several bf babies at our bumps and babes group who are still waking in the nihgt. I do envy you still bf... I think i would put up with getting up in the night if I could go back to it!

sorry to hear about the colds Wombat... hope your dd is ok now? It always seems so much worse on little babies doesn't it? I suppose because they can't blow their noses or get rid of all the yucky stuff... bless her

starlover, great image of linus standing up & grinning whilst you try to put him down for a nap! look what i can do mum

tipex, i thought i'd posted that leon is up inthe night? has been ever since he got an awful 2 week long cold about 3 weeks ago.... he's up at 10pm & then at another varying time, so sleep has been v.hard for me, i have a small idea what it's been like for you

wombat - the wh0le cold thing is horrible isn't it? leon got an awful cough that worried me so! i ended up going to the docs last friday to get his chest checked, all fine though

hazelnut - leon starts his swimming lessons tomorrow, any tips? i'm really looking forward to it i hope the spots and blotches have gone away

well, we tried leon with boiled egg last night, but 'no thanks mum' any tips on giving them egg? he then tried smoked mackeral which he loved, surprise surprise; favourite meal at the mo is spaghetti and cheese, he loves food that he can chew

what's everyone elses favourite?

leon also loves to play with mobile phones/remote controls, has been known to change channel!!!!!

got to go, leons' found the dvd player

Hazellnut · 14/09/2005 08:59

Main tip for swimming would be not to drop them !! Well actually I would say, if they do the whole teaching them to hold breath underwater then go for it, they may as well get used to it - I will next week ! Hope Leon enjoys it ! The spots and blotches are still there a bit this morning but no worse so not too worried. She does seem to have a bit of a sensitive rashy skin so am just going to assume it was something to do with the chlorine.

We have given dd scrambled egg but in order to get it to stick together a bit I have added philadelphia or cheddar and I think you can add cottage cheese too. Guess you could mash boiled egg into this. Actually I was going to try egg in yoghurt today - doesn't sound that nice but it might jsut work !! And given that dd is now only taking about half the amount of milk she should it means I can get a bit more calcium into her !

Her favourite seems to be pasta too ! I have bought some frozen spinach which comes in little lumps and is all cut up and the other day I did spinach with a bit of onion and a spoonful of tinned tomatoes with little pasta (got some cute stars from an italian deli !) and this seems to go down quite well. She also LOVES cod in cheese sauce.

DD also plays with the remotes and phones - and always gives the tv an indignant look when she turns the volume up or the tv off !
