Suspicious death, suspected murder. Think there is a press conference soon.

And the police knew who the culprit was. He has since been arrested.

I don't think they do. They questioned a man and released him saying he's no longer part of the investigation. I'm not sure if there are any other suspects.

I pray that the police have got this wrong and she just fell, and it was all so quick.

But she was hated by far left activists.

Heather Herbert is a former Labour MSP. He and his trans activists friends were crowing about her death this morning.

Ew I just looked him up, what a disgusting creature he is

He should be the next one on the suspect list...

The pp was referring to different murders.

I wonder what exactly has gone wrong in the upbringing of those who hate so viciously those they disgree with.

Is it a lack of intelligence, critical thought or the ability to see 'why' someone may think the way they do? We need to install a compulsory debating society in every school and university.

Is it social media? These people behave defensively, as if they have no actual internal thoughts or personal basis for their beliefs. So they attack any who question them, because they cannot answer in anything but borrowed words from the internet/peer groups.

I have disagreed robustly with many people throughout my life, yet have never held the sort of hatred and bile towards any human that has been displayed by many after recent public murders.

You are assuming this was politically motivated.
That's not been proven.

It may have been a burglary that went wrong.

Sadly, in real life, I know someone (colleague) who was murdered that way for being in their house when a burglar broke in. A petty thief looking for some pickings. Disturbed them and bashed around the head.

Oxford Union try to host varied debates. The fact that they are frequently hijacked brings us to where we are now. That is IF this is politically motivated.

Do you really think that a pathologist can't tell the difference between someone who's fallen downstairs and bashed their head, and something used to batter them?
There will be traces of metal/ wood/ whatever and the appropriate marks which show a weapon was used.

Edited

No , you're probably right, but I cant help thinking it was very hot. Didnt someone say she had said ahe'd slipped in the shower a couple of days before ? Maybe she already had an injury and then collapsed with the heat and hit her head. The man has been released is all I'm saying.

She knows exactly what she's doing. Like I said, race baiting.

I’m not race baiting at all. I didn’t mention race once.

I asked a perfectly legitimate question. A woman and her two daughters were murdered by her partner, an all too common situation in this country. Yet I’ve seen none of the upset or outrage that has happened with Anne.

That poor family just happen to be black. Give it a rest.

Afaik, the pathologist's report hasn't been done yet? No official cause of death has been given.

I can’t help but wonder why the poor woman who was murdered in Bedford, along with her two daughters, hasn’t received this press coverage.

How much coverage do you think the relatives want? It has been in the news, police made a statement about who they wanted to question and his arrest had been covered. I assume the relatives won’t want the press hammering on the door, sifting through social media and just want to be left alone to grieve.

Ann Widdecombe was a well known political figure, previously an MP, quite controversial and also had been on a number of celebrity programmes. Many people know of her, there is plenty of material about her. I’m sure her relatives aren’t enjoying the continual press coverage of her death

MrsShankly · 11/07/2026 08:19

Opposite end of the spectrum to me politically but this is so horrific. nobody deserves such a cruel end.
I hope she was happy and lived a peaceful life day to day in that beautiful location. What a terrible end for her.
Hoping not politically motivated or state sponsored violence or any such malicious action for the sake of all politicians and our divided national democracy.

If you were as old as me, you'd know there is a common pattern to police behaviour. I've seen this happen numerous times over many decades.

The police tend to make arrests (often of vulnerable and 'odd' local characters) only to be released very soon afterwards. It happens time after time.

I'm sorry but it's coming over as if you know very little about forensics/ post mortem and how evidence is gathered . It is extremely scientific which is why there was a delay waiting for the outcome when the initial announcement simply said she had died.

No, I am referring to the disgusting comments made online after the news that a woman was murdered.

Many variations of the same, desperate to use opinions on a death as some sort of social indicator. Derogatory and misogynistic name calling. Many 'That's awful, BUT'. And far worse are the ones actually celebrating an elderly woman dying in pain and terror.

AquaWhichIsFrenchForWater · 11/07/2026 08:20

Politics aside, I’m upset by such a senseless death.

I live South Devon and had a few encounters with Ann and (several of her family members) across various jobs/volunteering roles that I’ve done.
She was always very polite, and had a cracking sense of humour, wasn’t afraid to poke fun at herself (ahem, Strictly).
She would actively listen to others even if they didn’t share the same views as her, she seemed to respect their opinions and acknowledge why they might feel a certain way about things.

Devon & Cornwall police aren’t exactly the best at investigating these kinds of cases, unfortunately. Just a couple of weeks ago a woman was murdered, about 10 miles away from Ann, and the suspect was also released on bail back to the address where the crime happened. People living on the same street have had no updates or reassurance that they’re safe and not at risk of harm.

HoraceCope · 11/07/2026 08:20

i think the announcement of her death was released without approval, there was a whole thread about sky news announcing and then retracting.

I'm just amazed at how it looks as if her home was not more secure because there appears to be no CCTV evidence considering not just her former career, but how she was an older woman living remotely.

I think this will be a burglary gone wrong.

Anne Widdecombe was a committed Catholic. She would never had agreed to deliberately ending her own life, either with or without help from someone else.

Besides, the Telegraph report says that she was found with serious injuries.

I am getting an awful feeling that we are we looking at another David Amess or Jo Cox. Deliberately targeted and politically motivated.

I thought that. She gave the tribute at David Amess’ funeral too I think. 😔
If it was a targeted attack on a long-retired MP in her own home, the implications are huge in terms of the precedent that sets in this country.

No, I didn’t. I asked a question.

I don’t think you’re having this conversation in good faith.

ToohotToohotToohot · 11/07/2026 08:26

Although AW was a divisive politician, I doubt very much that at this stage of her life and career anyone really cared that much to kill her.
One possible reason could be a former prisoner who waited till their release perhaps if she was instrumental in their being imprisoned by anything she did as HS.

She's been a political non entity for years.

I'm old enough to know when she was in government when feelings were far stronger. In later years she's become part of the media circus, and made that her career. She didn't have enough of a profile or influence to make her a target.

Fair enough. No I dont know much about it. I'm not a pathologist; I'm simply speculating because she was old, it was hot and I thought there had been mention of a fall.
