Suspicious death, suspected murder. Think there is a press conference soon.

Painting a whole group with the same brush because of the behaviour of a few is prejudice, not a valid critique.

mellongoose · 11/07/2026 06:40

It appears they have released the man they arrested yesterday and that he “is no longer part of the investigation “.

I hope her loved ones get answers soon.

Was waiting for that to come. You can't help yourself can you. An innocent woman has been murdered and you're scoring cheap points.

Yep so predictable. Not heard a peep of disgust about the Morroccans rioting in London over the football though, oh no!!.

GentleSheep · 11/07/2026 06:53

Breaking news from the BBC:

"Man held on suspicion of Ann Widdecombe's murder released and no longer part of investigation."

Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman says: “Our priority remains identifying those responsible and ensuring that all available evidence is thoroughly examined.

“Detectives continue to carry out numerous enquiries as part of the ongoing investigation and we remain committed to establishing the full circumstances surrounding the incident.”

He adds: "Detectives from the Force Major Crime Investigation Team have launched a murder investigation and are conducting extensive enquiries into the circumstances surrounding Miss Widdecombe’s death.

“A cordon remains in place at the property while specialist officers continue forensic examinations. There are road closures in place around the scene."

I've seen plenty of disgust on YT about it but won't derail this thread.

It's an injustice and a crime, and that needs to be dealt with properly, but I'm not going to mourn such a mean-spirited, nasty piece of work who wouldn't piss on me if I was on fire. Her views were even worse than Thatcher's.

Do you have a reason for your vile behaviour?
can you actually give some evidence why you think this? Why you think your beliefs, behaviours etc would be of such affect to her? Or are you just jumping on the pathetic bandwagon that’s started up desperate to show your hate while claiming to be the victim of her? @TransportNerd

chocoluv · 10/07/2026 21:34

Not on MN there isn’t.

There are some on other forms of SM but just as many right wingers are saying vile things about her, so I don’t think it’s a left vs right issue.

Never said Mn?

Livelovebehappy · 11/07/2026 07:14

JenniferBooth · 10/07/2026 21:34

And your point? I said rarely happens the other way round. Glad you’ve managed to dig something up to prove my point, but it really wasn’t necessary…..

poodlemum01 · 11/07/2026 07:16

Its a horrible way to go and after Jo Cox and David Aness? it must make politicians rather scared. They are just doing their jobs.

Maybe she suffered from heat and fell.
Poor lady could have been alone for a good while.
Did she have a family?

I've just read Peter Tatchell's weasly excuse for an apology for calling AW names earlier. If TV bosses had any principles at all, that specimen would never be invited on anywhere to spout his opinions again, but of course he will be, unflushable turd that he is. To tell women that they don't know what women are, etc.

Typical lefty though. They speak before engaging their brains because they just can’t help themselves. Like on here. How many have jumped on the thread saying ‘sad that she’s died but….’, then clearly re-read their post and come back on to try to back track on their comment. It’s a trait shared by the lot of them.

I’m no fan of the police but I would think they can tell the difference between a fall and murder 🙄

HoraceCope · 11/07/2026 07:20

he has been released
oh what now?

Dollymylove · 11/07/2026 07:20

LuckyHazelFox · 10/07/2026 23:59

Yeah because issuing a description of a suspect on the run is really going to help by withholding his skin colour. 🙄

After the "Welsh choirboy" cover up in Southport, Police forces were ordered to state the ethnicity of suspects of violent crimes

The search will continue. Frightening to think the perpetrator is still at large.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 11/07/2026 07:23

Not the 26 year old man.

Peter Tatchell, why does he get airtime? Horrible man.

Peter should go on a speaking tour of the middle east

There was no "cover-up". The perpetrator in that case was Welsh. And at one point, he had been a choir boy.

The police were advised to publish the ethnicity of perpetrators because of the riots that followed the Southport case, incited by right wing disinformation online about the killer having been an asylum seeker.

Or, more worryingly, has had plenty of time to leave the country.

It's circa 26hrs since her death was first announced, then recinded briefly. It's circa 15hrs since her death was called "suspicious" and that there was a Police investigation.

Foot passenger on a ferry, last minute flight, Eurostar..? Potentially plenty of time to pack and leave without looking too suspicious.

I hope, but unfortunately do not expect, that the Police kept an open mind once they'd arrested this man, and they continued their investigation.

If they stopped looking at that point...

Superhansrantowindsor · 11/07/2026 07:32

Sadly I’m not surprised with some of these comments. Personally I think this is a terrible crime on an innocent elderly woman. Nobody is expecting people to mourn her but I do expect people to be respectful. What do people think they are adding to the conversation at this early stage by saying what a terrible person they thought she was? There is a time and place for things to be said. What happened to basic respect? If you can’t help writing negative things about a victim of a horrendous crime, just don’t write anything at all. I know we have free speech but seriously can’t people wait at least until the poor woman has been buried. Spare a thought for her family and friends. They must be utterly devastated.

Possibly. Sometimes a PM and forensics is necessary though.

LuckyHazelFox · 11/07/2026 06:08

The suspect's race will only become relevant if this proves to be a racist crime. I can see that some people are really struggling to deal with each case on an individual basis though. No wonder the divide remains.

I thought the relevance was that the police were trying to find a particular person so the police released what they knew about his appearance.

Found the article. I’m certain that’s what they’re hinting at.

Why would the gardener stick around to work after he'd killed her? 🤦‍♀️ He was probably just doing his job.

Yes, you're right, but I'm referring to the race baiter comments on here and social media. There's no place for them, especially in the infancy of this investigation.
