Suspicious death, suspected murder. Think there is a press conference soon.

Poor lady. I disagreed strongly with her politics and ethos but this was dreadful to hear.

I'll stand by it. Obviously it's terrible, and I feel for her family and friends. I'm just saying I'm personally unmoved by her death.

That doesn't mean I condone her murder. Of course I don't, and I hope justice is done.

Was there any need to say it at all? Think it by all means.

Sorry, I reported it. Would like to retract my complaint, but it’s too late.

It's not your fault

It's some trigger happy, didn't read it fool at @mnhq

If they'd bothered to read it properly, they would have seen what I wrote wasn't against any talk guidelines,I was showing sadness at a womans death and scorn towards the men who have written foul and gleeful things about her death (which was much worse than what I wrote)

It's just another way of shutting women up

Bet I wake up tomorrow and my accounts been deleted for some really daft reason

A long time ago when I was a baby reporter I interviewed Ann Widecombe. She was Prisons Minister at the time, but it wasn't the story about pregnant prisoners being shackled. The only thing I remember about the job was that she was unfailingly courteous to me.

That sounds like a nice memory to have of a brave woman.

Bunnycat101 · 10/07/2026 23:25

She spoke at one of my uni formals years ago. She wasn’t a popular invitee and had a hard time initially and then totally turned the room round pretty quickly. She was witty and entertaining and totally held the room of drunk students by the end. I can sort of see why there are so many high profile people saying they disagreed with her but enjoyed her company.

MissFancyDay · 10/07/2026 23:31

Oh no! This is utterly shocking.

If all politicians, on all sides of the political spectrum, were like Anne, that is principled, unwavering in their beliefs and willing to speak their mind and stick to it, politics would become great again.

RIP Anne

This is shocking, it is murder, the police have confirmed, and she’s died from a head wound and they are looking for a white male according to the bbc.

who in gods name would murder Anne Widdicombe or any 78 year 0ld woman.

Well, no, they haven't confirmed it's murder, and nor can they. That would be for a court to decide

idontknowhowtodreamyourdreams · 10/07/2026 23:32

This is just awful and shocking.

Hers were not my politics, but who cares about that. She met a violent and I am sure painful and terrifying death and that is horrific.

I hope the police and the CPS do their jobs to the best of their abilities. I hope we get accurate information about what happened when that info is available.

Ans as for the hateful comments by trans activists on social media ….. fucking disgraceful, the lot of them. They need to take their deluded “ideology” and fuck off.

AmateurDad · 10/07/2026 23:34

Whyohwhy1974 · 10/07/2026 23:12

You don't have to mourn her. She's a stranger to you, me and most others on here but give it a minute before the character assassination. Another woman has just been murdered at the hands of a man and that should be at the forefront of your mind.

No. Again, we don't know that. It's speculation.

I didn't like her views.
I'm sorry she died like this.
I'm thankful the perpetrator wasn't " an immigrant"

I was ‘relieved’ that the perpetrator was not an immigrant or from an ethnic minority .
There would have been riots instigated by right wing fanatics .

saraclara · 10/07/2026 23:39

Dogsoldier59 · 10/07/2026 22:22

All these "I didn't like her, but" are just as bad.
STFU

People are saying that they didn't like/disagreed with her politics. That's not the same as disliking a person. In fact most of those posters are saying that they admired her.

She had the kind of character, guts and courtesy that led to admiration even from those who opposed pretty much every political stance she took. Surely that's worthy of expression in her memory?

Was waiting for that to come. You can't help yourself can you. An innocent woman has been murdered and you're scoring cheap points.

Nobody is scoring points. They’re just glad we won’t see more racist unrest on our streets.

They haven't said that though have they. Or are immigrants always non white to you?

So that's the first thought is it. That says everything. Why are you even bringing racism into this?

That still doesn't explain why race is relevant.

Why are you looking for a reason to take offence?

Why are people shoe horning racism into this murder?

Someone, at some point in this thread, had brought up that they announced the race of the attacker very quickly. It’s relevant because of the society we live in.

They've said that he's white British.

The suspect is white. What more is there to say? The police have urged people not to speculate on social media. If only people would listen.

Exactly. It's naive to think some people wouldn't use this as a way to riot. Which will also be why they made a point of disclosing the fact the person arrested is white British.

LuckyHazelFox · 10/07/2026 23:59

Yeah because issuing a description of a suspect on the run is really going to help by withholding his skin colour. 🙄
