Suspicious death, suspected murder. Think there is a press conference soon.

Yes she was vulnerable. Her politics is the least of it. Some of the comments here are really awful. Right and left

Yes her physical health was waning following a fall last year, that’s why she employed carers, as she lived alone. A very smart woman.

i just find the whole thing utterly shocking, no matter her physical health mentially she was very strong and gave a televised interview the day before she died,

im utterly shocked some 26 year old loser murdered her,and it will be for some pointless reason like he was robbing her as she was so elderly and lived alone. So an evil cowardly act.

The only thing the BBC has reported about the suspect is that they are a white male.....so statistically far more likely to be right wing but obviously we don't know anything.

Unless you can share a link?

Far more likely to be right wing ? Are you on drugs?

Moonlightdust · 10/07/2026 19:49

This is terrible

He was quoting her words. I suspect it was meant to be respectful however, I also suspect that the reason Anne Wisdicombe used those words to describe herself was in reaction to/an attempt to preempt other people insulting her with the same words. So while I suspect it was meant to demonstrate a certain respect for her toughness I think it showed a lack of sensitivity at worst. But I don't think the intention was bad and I don't think it makes Bolton disgusting.

He was also laughing as the cameras cut to him and then he immediately starts going on about how she was a virgin

EasternStandard · 10/07/2026 19:51

AClassicTrenchcoat · 10/07/2026 19:47

How awful, Adam Boulton, pondering whether Ann was a virgin on Sky. Woman is murdered and so he thought it appropriate to reduce her to her sexual history. Disgusting creep.

Fgs that is rank. Wish he’d just go away, why have men on with that stuff.

I get that, my husband isn't white he uses derogatory descriptions of himself as it takes the power away from those who would use those words against him. I'm not sure id find them appropriate if someone used them after his death. To be honest I'm not really comfortable with him using them.

Oh that is absolutely disgusting!

If he was genuinely “being respectful” he could have said “Ann described herself as xyz”. He didn’t. His exact words were “she was very much a spinster, I think by the end you’d describe her as an old maid”. Nothing about her own words or quotes from her there - it was all his own views. He’s a vile person.

ScrollingLeaves · 10/07/2026 19:59

Hotshotlottie · 10/07/2026 18:13

Adam Boulton on Sky news described her as a spinster , an old maid, a virgin, a battleaxe and a bruiser?!!!!! Wtf.
I wonder if any male murdered politicians would be described this way? Hardly surprising from this man but appalling regardless of anyone’s views on her politics.
haven’t rtft so apologies if already mentioned but I’m outraged.

I didn’t see this , but from what you say, I feel as enraged as you do.

supercrone · 10/07/2026 20:00

Whyohwhy1974 · 10/07/2026 18:30

They wouldn't. No one gives a shit about an old white woman. Plus, it's too hot.

I'm not sure what your point is, is it that people would care more about an old black woman? That's very unlikely.

I'm not sure how I can be any clearer.

Mintyt · 10/07/2026 20:04

I’m shocked then shocked again that it’s murder, I loved her on channel 5

AInightingale · 10/07/2026 20:04

Someonenewagain · 10/07/2026 19:38

The BBC breakfast program (the gethin jones one) this morning was celebrating her and doing some of her Strictly dances as their exercise thing they do. Was that just a massive coincidence or was it in honour of her?
I didn’t watch it, the TV was on in the kitchen before I went out of the house.

I believe her death was announced quite early this morning (she was found yesterday) but initially just reported as her sudden death. It was only at about three pm that the media reported the police statement on foul play.

notwavingbutdrowning1 · 10/07/2026 20:05

FunStork · 10/07/2026 15:55

I pray that the police have got this wrong and she just fell, and it was all so quick.

But she was hated by far left activists.

Heather Herbert is a former Labour MSP. He and his trans activists friends were crowing about her death this morning.

Agree that what Heather Herbert said was uncalled for. But he was a Labour MSP candidate, not an actual MSP (now in the Scottish Greens - they're welcome to him).

I didn't see that but to be fair, so you might be right if he was laughing. I can sort of understand the wish not to portray her as weak/vulnerable/a victim because she wasn't those things through her whole life and I suspect would not appreciate being portrayed as such. But equally, she was vulnerable by virtue of her age and a victim of a horrific crime. I don't know how you get the balance right between adequately portraying how awful her death was without letting it overshadow her life

Also, I suspect a lot of the in memoriam type pieces put on were maybe planned after her death was announced, but before the suspicion of foul play was known about. In which case jokes about her dancing on strictly etc would have seemed more in celebration of her life. With her possibly dieing under tragic circumstances they become less appropriate in hindsight.

Many Catholics agree with euthanasia.

That surprises me, in that case I was making a bit of an assumption here.

I’ve no idea what you’re on about either.

ForeverNowWithin · 10/07/2026 20:20

GeneBelcher · 10/07/2026 17:46

Ah come on, the intent is clear: I need to denounce this awful murder (show that I'm a good person), but am worried I'll be ostracised by the kind folk on the left unless I produce my (currently fashionable) political credentials.
When Jo Cox was murdered I was as aghast as anyone and not once did I feel the need to say I disagreed with her politics- which I did.
Mind I didn't have to worry about appeasing right wing purists- it just doesn't work like that on the right.
Let's be honest, aggression from the left far, far outweighs that on the right. Don't be disingenuous, we all know it.

Edited

100% this. Something those on the left are in constant denial about.

Only just seen the news on here and I turn over to BBC and they're barely covering it? At least Sky News is. BBC is useless these days, what an insult for this not to be massive news on there.

This is absolutely awful.

You're coming across as someone who spreads misinformation.

38thparallel · 10/07/2026 20:22

A devout Catholic without a Christian bone in her body same as Mogg.

Wow. ‘Be Kind’ eh?
Someone has been murdered and that’s all you can say? If you hate her so much it really would’ve been better to say nothing.

Violetparis · 10/07/2026 20:22

I saw the Adam Boulton interview and it was striking just how sexist and uneccesary his language was. A female Reform politician was interviewed on Sky News in a later programme and called it out.

Roselilly36 · 10/07/2026 20:23

I am so sad about this, an elderly woman in her own home should be safe. She seemed a very genuine, no nonsense person, a sad loss.

Charlottejbt · 10/07/2026 20:24

ofcolitas · 10/07/2026 15:51

I expect it will turn out to be either a burglary gone wrong or a targetted attack from a nutter who felt aggreived by one of her policies.

Poor woman, what a way to end your days. She must have been so frightened.

The kind of nutter who makes targeted attacks on public figures is unlikely to have been aggrieved by Widdecombe's policies.

Olive123456 · 10/07/2026 20:26

It's ok ladies, nobody is going to take you to be some awful Reform riff raff if you don't specify that you disagreed with AW on everthing.

HumberSquid · 10/07/2026 20:27

Wiseplumnet · 10/07/2026 20:14

That surprises me, in that case I was making a bit of an assumption here.

It's certainly at odds with the church's teaching but then so is contraception and plenty of Catholics ignore that too.
