Suspicious death, suspected murder. Think there is a press conference soon.

Oh this is terrible. Poor, poor woman,
she must have been terrified, it’s unbearable. She was my MP growing up and really went out of her way to help my family in quite a major way, which we were, and always are, grateful for.

That's good but they seem to have moved on already! If you didn't hear the news a few hours after it happened you might have missed it completely.

It’s still the top story on the BBC News website.

Its horrifying and heartbreaking. I am sickened to think that someone could do this to a vulnerable elderly lady. Regardless of political affiliation this is a horrific violent murder. There was a eulogy given by Bishop Cei Dewar this morning which had me in floods of tears. Anyone who says anything celebrating the death of a defenseless old lady is sick and despicable.

When I first saw of an "investigation" I thought unexplained but likely a fall, but a murder investigation? 😲

Surely if she was going to be murdered because of her politics that would have been years ago? I wonder who stands to inherit, with no immeadiate family.

How long before Farage tries to make political capital out of it?

Grow up.

The left really need to stop crowing when right wing people die, it never turns out well for them and just turns reasonable moderate people away from the left.

And you are not using this to get your right wing views across?🤔

chocoluv · 10/07/2026 19:35

ALovelyPinkUnicorn · 10/07/2026 19:24

To whom? People take delight when someone dies?

No one on here has taken delight that she’s dead.

Regardless of the reasons as to why she was killed, it’s still another example of male to female violence.

That poster is trying to create political division on the thread to push their own agenda.

It’s incredibly disrespectful to Anne Widdecome and her loved ones, as well as the neighbours and those that knew her that are on the thread.

I was shocked to hear the news this morning. Jeremy Vine’s eulogy on Channel 5 brought me to tears. To hear now that she was allegedly murdered in cold blood by a young man is beyond shocking.

Ann was one of the last conviction politicians who loved, and did what she believed was best for her country. She was a woman of the utmost integrity, honest and truthful to a fault. She was a brilliant debater, willing to listen to opposite views, but was unwavering in what she believed to be the best thing. She did not suffer fools! Being a devoted Christian woman, her belief in ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ made her part ways with the Anglican Church when they introduced women bishops, and she converted to Catholicism.

Ann Widdecombe was an honourable woman, unique, strong, bold, fearless, true to God and her Christian Faith. She will be greeted with the words “well done my good and faithful servant”.

Thank you, Ann, for your many years of public service. It was done, not for self-serving aggrandisement or to climb the greasy political pole - but, rather, it was done from your Christian servant-heart.

Edited

I was thinking the same, she will be in the presence of our Lord Jesus today.

Yes she was vulnerable. Her politics is the least of it. Some of the comments here are really awful. Right and left

Someonenewagain · 10/07/2026 19:38

The BBC breakfast program (the gethin jones one) this morning was celebrating her and doing some of her Strictly dances as their exercise thing they do. Was that just a massive coincidence or was it in honour of her?
I didn’t watch it, the TV was on in the kitchen before I went out of the house.

They’re still talking about it on the BBC news channel.

Does the quick arrest make it likely it's someone known to her?

It could be, because those close to the victim are often the perpetrator, so that’s one of the first places the police look.

But it could also be someone unknown to her but known to the police who was identified from CCTV or forensic evidence.

It’s not just ‘ an old white woman, ’ but a popular mp, plus she won a lot of hearts on Strictly.

And yes, , if the ethnicity hadn’t been mentioned, there could be protests.

Edited

The hearts she won on Strictly are hardly the rioting kind.

IdaGlossop · 10/07/2026 19:41

It is very shocking. It is rare to find a politician whose morality was so clearly on display. I realise I am relieved that the man arrested has been described as white. It's an awful thing to have to say but the some people and political parties are on the lookout for excuses to be racist.

I thought the same, to be honest.

They can't cover it continuously without any other story. Even when the Queen died they sometimes moved to other stories in between.

Anne was a woman of great Christian faith. A devout Catholic and someone who was sensible and kind and articulate. May she rest in eternal peace. Some of the comments here are awful. This was a 78 year old vulnerable lady living alone and its greatly upsetting to think that someone has committed this act of senseless horrific violence. Regardless of politics, its sickening to think of anyone dying this way.

He was being derogatory and I doubt she loved being told how unattractive she was on a regular basis. I saw a clip from a Louis Theroux documentary and he started along the same lines and she told him she only agreed to do the documentary if he didn’t pursue that line of questioning because she didn’t like it or see it as anyone else’s business. She also said that while she knew that people thought she didn’t give a shit about her appearance that wasn’t actually true. It’s so disrespectful of him to say that stuff. And he’s someone who cheated on his wife when he had young children. I really don’t want to hear his views on ideal relationships and numbers of sexual partners.

He was quoting her words. I suspect it was meant to be respectful however, I also suspect that the reason Anne Wisdicombe used those words to describe herself was in reaction to/an attempt to preempt other people insulting her with the same words. So while I suspect it was meant to demonstrate a certain respect for her toughness I think it showed a lack of sensitivity at worst. But I don't think the intention was bad and I don't think it makes Bolton disgusting.

whynotwhatknot · 10/07/2026 19:46

i never liked her personally but noone deserves this they're saying it's not political but who knows

AClassicTrenchcoat · 10/07/2026 19:47

How awful, Adam Boulton, pondering whether Ann was a virgin on Sky. Woman is murdered and so he thought it appropriate to reduce her to her sexual history. Disgusting creep.

May her memory be a blessing to those who love her, and may they find comfort in the knowledge she is with the Lord Jesus 🙏
