I think so. Maybe she cancelled something because of the heat and the killer wasn't expecting her to be home, panicked and struck her. I imagine she would have put up a fight despite her age.

This has really shocked me. I don’t share her politics but I think she was a woman of conviction and principle and conscience.

I really liked her. She was great fun on Jeremy Vines show. I didnt agree with her politics although she did like animals. I was shocked to hear she had passed as she seemed so full of life and I could have imagined her living to a ripe old age. So the latest news is even more shocking and sad that someone cut her life short. . I don’t know why she would have carers am sure they would be more likely housekeepers and gardeners . She certainly didn’t seem like she needed to be taken care of!

She had a lifetime of horrible comments on how she looked, and speculation about her sex life.

Its so sad she was a 78 year old elderly lady she must of been so scared.

Sadly, since race became so highly politicised, there is massive online speculation about every reported crime. Ten years ago, you would never get the race reported until the name of the suspect was released. Now, every murder or violent incident is met with a massive outcry of "usual suspects" and "doctor or engineer", which is shorthand for saying it was probably an illegal immigrant. If police don't release the racial identity until later, and it is a black or brown person, there is an outcry that they were trying to cover it up. If there is an incident involving a non white person, there can be terrible riots and protests.

So it's all highly politicised and I think they have decided to have a general policy of releasing the details before they release the name.

Me too. When her death was announced, I thought it was a bit strange. There was no ‘… after a short illness’ type comments. . Now I know why.

I didn't agree with Anne Widdicombe on a lot of things but I do have empathy for her family and friends now grieving. Police have asked people not to speculate so I'll not do that and just type R.I.P lady and I really hope you didn't suffer.

I’m replying about the point made by many posters that devout Catholics would never want euthanasia. It’s plainly not true.

I didn’t agree with Widdicombe’s very conservative views, but I admire her as a woman of conviction, who was not afraid to stick to her principles. Shocking that she appears to have been murdered. May she RIP.
