Not a chance would Anne ever do something like that. She was famously vehemently anti abortion. ie taking the life of an unborn child. No way would she take her own. (Im prochoice)
Not a massive fan of Anne but I did like that she said what she thought. I’ve read her autobiography Strictky Anne and did warm to her a bit more as a result. I respect her for commitment to politics not as a career politician but because of her passion for her views and wanting to serve as a politician.

The fact the police have someone in custody so quickly suggests that this person is known to Ann Widdecombe.

Yes. It’s stops anyone jumping to conclusions that it was a racially/religious motivated attack. The police understandably don’t want another summer of riots.

In the statement the police asked people to refrain from speculation, particularly in social media, as it was potentially harmful to their investigation. Also because it was extremely hurtful for her family.

She was a bit right wing but in this day and age there are countless public figures who are miles more extreme. She was also close to national treasure status with Strictly appearances etc. That’s why I doubt it is political motivated.

Quite aside from inciting racial hatred, this was a credible threat to kill. This is and has always been illegal, and there are very good reasons why people can't go around doing it.

The BBC article says the police don't know that yet. And they don't know if the 26 year old was known to her.

I think Ann Widdecombe was Catholic,so unlikely to be assisted suicide.
