Is she claiming asylum? She must now realise what a great country England is after spending all those years trying to destroy the country. She is most welcome to pop rounds for a cuppa and a natter.

To be fair I don’t think she hates England. I think, as with the other Celtic countries, she took issue with ‘Westminster’/the British government, not the country and peoples. I still think she’s not being entirely honest about the hubby though.

DaisyDooley · 31/05/2026 14:56

Utter utter hypocrite.
Why am I not surprised. 😳

TheKittenswithMittens · 31/05/2026 14:56

A bit like Mary, Queen of Scots. I wish her a better ending.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 31/05/2026 14:56

Good riddance.

InconsequentialFerret · 31/05/2026 14:57

Why shouldn't Scottish people who want independence not live in other countries?

Twiglets1 · 31/05/2026 14:58

Oh no! Wee Krankie coming to a town near you …

I think it's a bit off actually. If you want Independence for Scotland, invest in Scotland, pay taxes in Scotland and live with the consequences of your campaigning, good or bad. It's the same as people campaigning for Brexit while living in the Far East. Nothing to do with them as they don't have to live with the consequences.

SocialistMummy · 31/05/2026 15:10

She joins the likes of Sean Connery, Alan Cumming, Irvine Welsh, Brian Cox and Martin Compston - all Scottish independence campaigners but none of them actually live in Scotland

And hypocrites, the lot of them.

InconsequentialFerret · 31/05/2026 15:20

I think it's a bit parochial to say anyone supporting Scottish independence needs to live in Scotland.

If it came to an actual vote, that's a different thing altogether. I didn't agree with migrants who had lived in other countries for years being able to vote in the Brexit referendum (or being able to vote in general elections for that matter).

JimBobsWife · 31/05/2026 15:20

I often wonder about the conviction of Scottish nationalists who are so keen to leave one union (the UK) but so keen to join another (the EU).

They're completely different kinds of unions for a start. Imagine if "Brussels" told the UK they couldn't have a referendum on leaving without its permission! 😆

Fine for Scottish people in general to go and live in other countries. Regardless of whether they want Scotland independent

But someone who’s made their entire career out of proposing the destruction of the union - even after the public voted no - then no, get to fuck.

SpottyAlpaca · 31/05/2026 15:26

Why am I not surprised in the slightest?

Sturgeon’s indefensible hypocrisy reminds me of that other great patriotic Scottish nationalist Sean Connery. He got out of Scotland as soon as he could afford to and barely set foot in the country, never mind living there, for the rest of his long life.

I'd agree if she was still involved in campaigning.

Maybe she thinks, having dedicated her life to it, she just wants to do something completely different, including living in a different country.

Fair enough in my mind.

Imagine “Brussels” imposing rules on the rest of the bloc. Heaven forfend!

Good for her. It'll do her good to get out of the goldfish bowl for a while. Scotland will always be her home.

Darragon · 31/05/2026 15:47

So she's availing of the higher income tax thresholds, then?

EnterQueene · 31/05/2026 15:58

Like my sister, shouted and banged the drum for independence during the referendum, now lives in Cornwall, while her insufficiently nationalistic sister (me) has remained loyal to my lovely home land.

I agree. The amount of abuse and nastiness against her is unbelievable.

Personally I have always been a supporter of hers and this Murrell stuff has shocked me. But I believe in her fundamental honesty and no one deserves the abuse she is getting

If there was any evidence that she was involved in Murrell's crimes I 100% believe she would have been charged too. She was investigated for long enough.

I would have believed in her "fundamental honesty" too, up to the point when she started claiming that transwomen are women, and it was fine to put male rapists into women's prisons.
That's a fundamental lack of integrity for anyone with half a brain cell. (And I hold Starmer to the same standard)

Boomer55 · 31/05/2026 16:32

After all she’s said, she living in England?

Total hypocrite. 😂😂😂

I find it bonkers. It’s not like they even need to live in England for work, it would be very easy to have a base in London and travel down when needed.

AnonymityAnonymity · 31/05/2026 16:38

I know these days there is very much an England for the English mentality but I think if you are gearing up to extraditing all the Scottish people currently resident there it is farcical in the extreme.

MrsHattie · 31/05/2026 16:40

I always remember the SNP activists on the border with signs saying no English during Covid, I bet Nicola didn’t face such aggression driving her camper van on the train down.
