Is she claiming asylum? She must now realise what a great country England is after spending all those years trying to destroy the country. She is most welcome to pop rounds for a cuppa and a natter.

Why shouldn't Scottish people who want independence not live in other countries?

Possibly because they wouldn’t have to live with the consequences? I’m a Scot living in England,

InconsequentialFerret · 31/05/2026 19:23

Some people just seem fuelled by their hatred of her and of her belief in independence.

MrsHattie · 31/05/2026 19:23

For heaven's sake!

She believes in independence for Scotland.

She was and is part of a political movement fighting for independence.

How does that translate into tirelessly stoked division between Scotland and England to further her career ?

I know it's quite rare these days for politicians to have beliefs and to try to further their beliefs but you make it sound like a crime. I really disliked Salmond but the one thing I had to admit about him was his belief in Scottish Independence and his striving to further the cause.

I get that you are pro the Union but the hatred and derision you are displaying does you no credit.

Hatred, derision ? What? It’s just deliciously funny to see a hypocrite shown up. Do you not see the funny side at all?

No nationalist grifting is not a crime, embezzlement though ..well yes that is.

Because the SNP’s mantra has been to blame Westminster for EVERYTHING for their own failings. Over and over. They’ve been dining out on that for a while now and you can’t see the hypocrisy of wee Nippy moving there? Come on.

I didn't realise she'd moved into the Houses of Parliament.

Westminster is in London. Where she’s moved to. Keep up.

crazeekat · 31/05/2026 19:26

It’s not England we hate it’s the government. Doesn’t matter what we vote for, if Westminster says ye or nae that’s what we get. Defo not England or the English for most of us and I say that genuinely.

Nobody believes that I’m afraid.

InconsequentialFerret · 31/05/2026 19:34

Only idiots believe the SNP are anti English.

Ha ha, do you genuinely expect people to believe that? This discussion it taking some quite odd turns.

I'm English born and bred but long time resident of Scotland and supporter of Scottish Independence i've had 2 Scottish H's and i have a proud Glaswegian son. But the rest of my family - or what's left of it live in England and are as English as can be

So where does that leave me? As a supporter of the pro independence Scottish parties does that mean that should I take it into my head to join the rest of my family in England I woukd not be welcome and I would be a hypocrite too?

I’m Scottish born and bred, as were my parents. DH was born in England, moved to Scotland as a youngster. We live in England, our DC, one of whom is Scots born, live here too. DH’s family live in Scotland, his siblings are all married to Scots.

Our DCs and their cousins are a mix of Scots, English and Irish. I have no interest in separation. Lots of evidence suggests an independent Scotland would be much poorer.

Only idiots believe the SNP are anti English.

Only idiots who think Nicola, who stopped members asking questions, who signed off the accounts, who didn’t enquire further when auditors and accountants were resigning, chased out those who got their nose in by raising questions about the party’s finances (Joanna Cherry), who supported her thieving husband, is innocent and all down to ‘hating her belief in independence’. Oh my sides.

Anti English is their thing

MrsHattie · 31/05/2026 19:59

Gwenhwyfar · 31/05/2026 19:21

No, it's not. She presumably didn't campaign for a hard border.
Are Irish people who live in England also hypocrites?

She’s campaigning for independence?

No Irish people living in England are not hypocrites? Why would they be?

Hotupnorth · 31/05/2026 20:01

Unsurprising given this thread.

I know these days there is very much an England for the English mentality but I think if you are gearing up to extraditing all the Scottish people currently resident there it is farcical in the extreme.

I have nothing against people living wherever they like but it seems very strange, nay hypocritical, for Nicola Sturgeon to live in England after she has spent her whole career being anti-English. Maybe she has decided that we aren't so bad after all.

Twisterlollies · 31/05/2026 20:06

I assume her vision of an independent Scotland would include border controls and visas between there and England, otherwise what’s the point? So it does seem ironic she’s fully exercising her right to live where she wants as a citizen of the United Kingdom.

Sarah2891 · 31/05/2026 20:07

TheLilacFinch · 31/05/2026 16:34

I find it bonkers. It’s not like they even need to live in England for work, it would be very easy to have a base in London and travel down when needed.

Martin Compston doesn't even live in England he lives in Las Vegas! Actually most of those listed live or lived in the US I think.

Violinist64 · 31/05/2026 20:07

Yet Scottish MPs get a vote in things that only affect England whereas the same concession is not extended to English MPs when it comes to matters affecting Scotland.

This will not be responded to I’m guessing…

ByGraptharsHammer · 31/05/2026 20:08

Ghastly hypocrite. Shouldn’t she be making a case for Scotland? England doesn’t need washed up nationalists. We have enough of our own

I think what makes it all the more funnier is that Scottish people living in England wouldn’t get a vote in an independence referendum, something Nicola herself has campaigned for. Brilliant.

ByGraptharsHammer · 31/05/2026 20:22

She is busy trying to refashion herself as a media personality in London. Except no one in England gives a damn what she thinks.

MiddleAgedDread · 31/05/2026 20:23

Fucking tax dodger!
you can keep the witch

SpottyAlpaca · 31/05/2026 20:26

Apparently she has moved to London to ‘start a literary career’. Nothing to do with all the corruption & scandals, then. Of course not.

I wonder what her first publication will be? ‘Ma wee book of how tae tell the truth’ by Nicola Sturgeon, perhaps?
