Is she claiming asylum? She must now realise what a great country England is after spending all those years trying to destroy the country. She is most welcome to pop rounds for a cuppa and a natter.

Approximately 20% of Americans support their state seceding from the US. States like California, who contribute more than they receive have a very strong secession movement.

The American civil war was based on exactly that. Foolish to think it will never raise its head again.

20% though. Not dismissing them, but we're 50/50. Which is unhealthy. I'd rather there was a bigger difference because I don't want an Eire situation.

It wasn’t a threat. It was pointing out the reality of the situation. There would have to be a hard border Even the SNP admit there would be a hard border. https://www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk/news/politics/john-swinney-admits-hard-border-36032850.amp

I don’t actually. I have no idea why you think that’s hilarious btw but each to their own 🤨

Yes, I understand that and she is entirely free to do so. Does anyone know the answer to my question, please?

None of the big issues such as currency/pensions/mortgages/borders were addressed at the time of the referendum, I know because I asked repeatedly

A hard border would be inevitable because if the English need to stop immigration and would clearly be a disaster

I think the indie support is so heavily weighted to the central belt that they genuinely have no idea about how life in the borders and D&G works

Why shouldn't Scottish people who want independence not live in other countries?

It shows she thinks English rule is not that bad after all. In fact, she seems to prefer it compared to how Scotland is being ruled under the SNP.

I imagine she is paying less tax than she would be in Scotland, thanks to her tax policy. That must be a benefit to her.

But that’s the whole point. We can’t exit the union and expect to get everything we want from it. There will have to be a deal done with people who don’t want us to leave. It isn’t a “threat” to have a hard border, it is the reality of two nations living next door to each other being able to control who comes into their country. If the Scottish immigration system was to allow pretty much anyone in, is it hard to understand why England would want some control?

Things like the currency is a particular issue. Will we have our own or will we be in a currency union with England? That means our economy being reliant on a strong GBP. How is that good for us? Do we expect England just to let us keep the same currency as them?

It took SNP 8 years and £685 million to implement 11 benefits, in a situation where UK Gov was collaborating with them to do it. Can you imagine the issues with setting up an entire civil system with and English government who has no interest in collaboration?

You cannot have a good divorce in an acrimonious split. The reality is, a lot of people will be a lot worse off for at least a generation. If we succeed there is no metric which says we will do any better than rUK. Is it really worth going through the unavoidable pain for no real gain?

They never answer any of these questions either

i think because they don’t understand them

will we get our own DVLA, Tax office, passport agency, etc? Who’s paying for this? How long will it take to set up?

Who's building and paying for the border? Will pension funds and mortgages move to sturgeons instead of pounds? Will you be able to choose?

We would need a cereal bank for ourvien currency and to meet standards for join the EU, which would be difficult for years

as with Brexit, I have to ask: what would be the benefit?

Neutralnames · 06/06/2026 18:28

I’m sorry, but as an English person who lived in Scotland for 23 years I can very much tell you that independence supporters are anti English. The anti English comments only ever came from independence supporters, never from unionists. Furthermore, when I spoke about the anti English abuse I experienced, only unionists expressed condemnation of this. The independence supporters remained quiet and often smiled or smirked.

I’ve seen this too. My ds is half English and the referendum time was horrible for him

"A hard border would be inevitable"

That's just no true. Northern Ireland and Ireland don't have a hard border (meaning you can still travel from the EU to a part of the UK without any checks even after Brexit). Norway and Sweden don't have a hard border even with one country being in the EU and the other not. It's not inevitable at all and unlikely imo.

One of my best friends was born and raised in London. She voted yes. Don’t think she’s anti herself.

It’s TEMPORARY. It would be like me going to Brighton for a few months to stay with my Aunty. I’d still be paying my tax to the Scottish Govt. The tax office would collapse if they had to document people going to other countries on a temporary basis.

One of my rare replies to you. I dish out nothing. You, however, are fixated with me. It’s unhealthy.

Differentforgirls · 06/06/2026 20:25

Anyway, there’s no point in people getting upset about Indy then moaning about a Scottish person temporarily locating to one of the unions component parts. You either want us with you, or don’t. Make your minds up!

And you won’t unless you want English Independence. I’d go for it. You’re the only part of the UK without your own parliament!

If you really want Scottish independence I have wondered if that would be the way - to encourage English independence. I don't think it would gain enough interest. Many years ago - when there was a high-profile by-election - there was an English Nationalist Party, for the reason you state.
