Is she claiming asylum? She must now realise what a great country England is after spending all those years trying to destroy the country. She is most welcome to pop rounds for a cuppa and a natter.

If you really want Scottish independence I have wondered if that would be the way - to encourage English independence. I don't think it would gain enough interest. Many years ago - when there was a high-profile by-election - there was an English Nationalist Party, for the reason you state.

Up to you. But you can’t get a vote on another nations Indy. If you want it for England, you need an English referendum. I think it would be good. All four nations have their own parliament and we have a joint one for big things like defence.

Interesting - I don't know enough and haven't given it enough thought but thanks for the info. I have to take you up on your description of Nicola though: moaning about a Scottish person temporarily locating to one of the unions component parts

England has a number, greater than the population of Glasgow, of Scottish people living there. It isn't to do with being Scottish it is where you are registered to vote.

Yes and they’re registered to vote in England. Just like English people living here are registered to vote in Scotland. So the English people living here got to vote in the referendum and the Scottish people living there, didn’t. If you live and work in Scotland, you get a say. If you don’t, you don’t. Simple really!

You need to register though. It’s not an automatic thing. I’m not going to register to vote in England if I stay with a cousin for a few months.

Yes, exactly. This thread isn't about those hundreds of thousands of Scottish people - it is about the former leader and committed separatist Nicola Sturgeon - not simply "a Scottish person". It has obviously garnered interest that she has moved to London "to breathe" as she says.

If I wanted to write and breathe - I'd much prefer Scotland! ❤

So is Nicola telling us that she wants the UK to remain one country or that she wants Scotland to be a separate country and no longer part of the UK?

Either view is perfectly valid; but it's hypocritical in the extreme to expect the best of both worlds. It's like the head of PETA spending years vociferously campaigning for people to stop eating meat and then being seen enthusiastically tucking into a beef burger. Sure, they can insist that it's not illegal to eat meat, and that lots of people choose to do so; but it still blows a huge hole in everything they've ever publicly stood for.

If Nicola had been successful in her (supposedly) passionate campaigning, her countryfolk would no longer have had the same option that she has just availed herself of: the automatic right to move to England, Wales or Northern Ireland with no restrictions, border controls or issues whatsoever.

I suspect she’s been a self-seeking blackguard all her wretched life.

Well she needs a break elsewhere.

Again, deflection over a typo rather than answers

This is why they’ll never convince doubters to vote Indy

Well you should proof read before pressing “post “. If that’s the standard response, check before posting 👍

Anyway, there’s no point in people getting upset about Indy then moaning about a Scottish person temporarily locating to one of the unions component parts. You either want us with you, or don’t. Make your minds up!

This is exactly what I'd say to Nicola, though! She either wants to be one country and enjoy the freedom to move around and live wherever she wants to; or she wants Scotland to be a separate country and not to have that free movement. She needs to make her mind up!

Absolutely not. We all LIVE on the British Isles. We are all British. It can't be compared with Brexit. We're not all German. The point is that Scotland voted remain. But we weren't allowed to.

Why can't it be compared with Brexit? And why on earth is Germany specifically different (unless you're Stan Boardman, maybe)?

We share what is geographically known as 'the British Isles' with people who live in the Republic of Ireland - but they are most definitely not British (except on an individual level if they happen to be Brits who've moved there).

The question has been asked so many times as to why the UK leaving the EU (for which the blame is usually laid squarely at England's feet) is accused of being a stupid, insular, xenophobic, nasty, short-sighted decision; but Scotland choosing to leave the UK is absolutely not the same... but nobody has ever answered other than by saying "Ah, but that's completely different".

I did ask this question a while ago of the OP but got no answer.

If Brexit has been so economically bad for the UK (according to the SNP) why would Scexit be so economically good for Scotland (according to the SNP)?

It’s nothing to do with geography as @Differentforgirlstried to suggest. We share the European landmass with the rest of Europe just as Scotland shares the British Isles landmass with us.
