Rachel Reeves - potential successor?

Apparently, the Tories have launched a petition www.sackreeves.com urging the PM to sack the Chancellor, after she was accused of misleading the public over the state of the UK’s finances.

If she is sacked, who could/should replace her?

The Tories don't get to decide this. I think she should stay - she has a background in economics, which is more than many other potential candidates.

Not sure they can accuse her of misleading the public any more than they did.

I am starting to admire her tenacity. Labour have made a lot of mistakes and their first year has been embarrassing to watch but there is no easy way to improve public services and balance the books.

Labour are at least seriously interested in public services whereas the Tories and Reform do not have any interest in them as they do not fundamentally believe they should exist.

I have never been anti-Rachel however, I am now because of the OBR leak. There was no black hole to fill; she raised our taxes to fund the cut of the 2-child tax benefit and the minimum wage.

The lying about the black hole is one of the worst lies I’ve seen and that’s saying something, but I really beleive she didn’t act alone, starmer needs to go with her and the back benches who were complicit.

it’s utterly appalling to say there is a deficit and she needs to tax the arse off the working person when she knew it wasn’t the case, it was the opposite as she anted to give 15 billion more in welfare.

i honestly think Charles needs to step in now; even unite has said enough and the lead for that is one of the biggest lefties there is. When unite say they lied, and are penalising the average working person to give the money out in benefits you know we are now in the 7th circle of hell.

I think that enough is enough - the Chancellor has told so many falsehoods, and she can no longer be trusted. Her questionable competence aside.

The only reason that Starmer will retain her is because he understands that their fates are inextricably linked.

I am not familiar with who in the Labour Party has the requisite experience, hence my question - I am aware that Torsten Bell was apparently one of the architects of the budget.

An election is not going to happen as the Labour Party will not lose a confidence vote but she’s made an absolute hash of things.

Of course Unite isn't going to support a generally right leaning Labour party. Unite is generally left leaning although it does have hard left elements too. Why would Unite support Reeves? Read some politics!

Yours a small minority then, even those on benefits are starting ro express concern, that the money they are being given is from average working peiple who now can’t afford food or heating.

Ah this would be the Tory’s who allowed substantial unchecked lending during covid to company’s that hadn’t been in business for several years, totally faked turnover ( which everyone and his mother can see on companies house site) many of which went into very quick liquidation having sucked the cash out- including onessunakswife had involvement with - did no due diligence on company’s supplying PPE, paid substantial amounts to Johnson’s knock offs for a bit of random consultancy, lied about various get togethers during covid, and to be frank didn’t have the caps in for years and years.

and Unite? They hate anyone who isn’t one of their ‘are you with us brothers’ mentality -anyone who actually has a bit of commercial acumen and is a fiscal realist - personally would serve them right if they brought Wes streeting in who isn’t the most likeable person but I think is rather capable, a good communicator and would think bollocks to them .I don’t agree with everything they have done and personally I wouldn’t have lifted that benefits cap but for the Tory’s to try and present themselves as more fiscally responsible is laughable - they have cost the country£400bn on Brexit for a start by even having a referendum and decimated GDP by 6 to 8% and effectively ended the Dublin agreement on right to return of non permitted asylum seekers by default . Most of the big issues were caused by them going right back to the 80s - be it selling off social housing or utilities. They have some cheek -

I'm not sure who would, or Indeed should, replace her... but both her and Starmer are well overdue being sacked. It's pretty impressive to have managed to form a government even worse than the Tories!

Sadly, many are not - they have been adversely impacted by Reeves’s policies (or will be).

Ive paid enough tax to receive this. I’m not expressing any concern. My concern is about greedy employers paying shit wages. Maybe they should step up to reduce the benefits burden?

She's an utter disgrace and no amount of whatabboutery regarding what the Tories did or didn't do diminishes that fact.

From a UK investment perspective on the world stage, she is causing the country irreparable harm the longer she stays.
