Rachel Reeves - potential successor?

GroundZero · 29/11/2025 16:27

Apparently, the Tories have launched a petition www.sackreeves.com urging the PM to sack the Chancellor, after she was accused of misleading the public over the state of the UK’s finances.

If she is sacked, who could/should replace her?

I have an idea! Lets discuss all the dodgy Chancellors we had under the Conservative government.

Time we raised our bar then, starting with this one.

Sadly, many are not - they have been adversely impacted by Reeves’s policies (or will be).

Including many ‘working people’ - whatever that does/does not mean, currently.

Well that’s a shame. In a democracy you have to take what the public serves up. They have a big majority & have currently served 16 months out of 5 years. Those of us who are left leaning have suffered for the past 14 years. Suck it up.

Feel free to start a thread for that.

Surely they’d rather not piss everyone off so they get only one term.

And local elections don’t tank to the point leaders are feeling ready to be ousted.

You might feel great with that but Labour will be out for a while if they stick to this or get worse.

Asking the growing number of people adversely impacted by Reeves’s policies to ‘suck it up’ is pretty offensive.

Your values, my values.

In case you hadn't noticed though, the Tories aren't in power any more. Labour are.
Tories rightly lost the last election.
This is all on Labour

I do wonder when the obsession with the previous Tory government, and Reform, will end.

It’s a focus on the perceived negatives of the opposition, rather than the Labour positives - you rarely hear about the latter anymore, ahem.

They have a big majority because they lied in their manifesto. I was glad to see Beth Rigby call Starmer out over this but he still can’t admit it even though she interviewed him before the election and they promised not to put up taxes. Name me one thing the public can trust this government with? It’s just lie after lie and if we had an election now I doubt they’d even come second.

Regardless of what you think of Reeves, after years of their disasters and much worse lying, the Tories have got an absolute fucking cheek to do this

It's all whataboutery and deflection. Labour leadership do it and all their comms is "what about the Tories/Reform" so it's obvious their minions will copy.
To a certain extent its expected with any new administration but we are now 17 months in to the Labour regime, they really need to start taking ownership and responsibility for the current fuckcluster

Boris is gone, and has nothing to do with this (although he did actually resign over a piece of cake if you remember?)

See if you can answer the question - are you happy that even though it’s clear RR raised taxes by lying, she’s still good for the job?

Oh Lord the piece of cake lie. He resigned because all of his Cabinet refused to serve.

During the Tory governments they blamed Gordon Brown right up to the election. 14 years of lying that he crashed the whole world economy.

You still can’t answer the question. There’s nothing more delusional than a Labour voter, even when the lies are in plain sight it’s “what about the Tories?”

redwinecheeseandothersnacks · 29/11/2025 19:06

I think posters have every right to refer back to 14 years of fuckcluster from the Tories. Love the word fuckcluster @Twistyizzy I will use it again.

MNLurker1345 · 29/11/2025 19:10

@redwinecheeseandothersnacks, are
you willing to overlooking the lies of the current government because of the actions of the previous?

As a PP said, let’s raise the bar!

But, unfortunately the bar has not been raised. And that’s ok with you because the tories lied!

It is actually more a of a statement about modern day politics. It all sits somewhere in the middle, which as the watering down of the proposed employees rights bill shows.

If you sit in the middle, you get Tory lies, you get Labour lies. Now if you are a socialist, with this government, the water is a bit murky.

Tory ‘temerity’ versus Labour fiscal mendacity and incompetence adversely impacting millions.

Not really comparable, is it?

You are entitled to your opinion. The majority disagree with you, and I don't just mean the majority on MN. The majority of the public also disagree with you.

Well the Tory’s used it for a good 6 or 7 years when they got in , so what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
