Anyone else really concerned about asylum seekers killing people, seemingly to get a life term prison sentence?

Just to clarify I'm a lifelong labour voter before I get told I'm a deform bot!
Locally to me an assylum seeker from Ethiopia has just been jailed for 25 years for the murder of a man in a bank in broad daylight (he was angry that his application had been turned down).
Earlier this week an afghan national killed 1 person and injured 3 more...
I follow politics, and geo politics (am a history grad) and so I'm aware that the current immigration levels are nothing to what will come when the Sahel region collapses, but is this going to keep happening?
Why can't they be deported? Why should uk tax payers pay?
I have teen dds, and it makes me scared for them.
I know there's no quick fix after years of tory corruption and inaction, but what could be done within a legal framework?
Would rejoining the EU help stop the boats?

There is a disporportionate amount of coverage when something goes wrong and it involves an asylum seeker or immigrant. One deported immigrant turned round and came back. One. People are released from prison in error every week- which is obviously unacceptable- but only the immigrants get press coverage. Women are sexually assaulted every day. Only when the criminal is an immigrant is it reported.

My post on here about Samir Zitouni being released from hospital got 4 replies.

It’s because crimes done by immigrants are preventable. And the government is often at fault for lack of vetting or lack of enforcement and inability to strike a hard line on fake asylum seekers

There is also the assumption that all crimes committed by non white people are committed by immigrants…..

Cultural differences do not disappear by the second generation. And if you are part of an insular community, those differences will remain.

You may not like that reality, but please do not deny it. A problem cannot be solved if you refuse to understand it

I’d like to read more about this. Any stats/studies?

@CurlewKate has it not occurred to you that @RingoJuice might be at work or otherwise busy and not able to reply to you within 40 minutes?

Of course. I just don’t want her to forget. It shouldn’t take her long.

Agree. It’s not work, not sure anyone has to run to it on demand.

She doesn’t have to reply at all of course. But surely anyone who makes a categorical statement should want to back it up?

CurlewKate · 19/11/2025 13:22

And it’s irresponsible to say things as fact on an emotive subject like this without evidence. We need to try and defuse, rather than escalate the situation.

Yeah for avoidance of confusion my eyes are still rolling in the back of my head at the OP’s attempt.

Is there anything - realistically - that the govt can do ?

You’re a history graduate - what does history teach us?

They are already in the country and there are times when literal rapists cannot be deported because of some ‘danger’ to their lives (presumably they don’t care about the danger to local women).

And how well can vetting go when the foreign institutions are corrupt and incompetent?

They can’t weed out the criminals that have not yet offended ever in their lives or have never been caught.

That is the case with everyone- immigrant or British born.

“literal rapists” that can’t be deported are in a UK prison so they’re not a danger to women until they have served their prison term just like all the British rapists.

It’s down to “corruption” - if anything we know the UK justice system is institutionally racist and will let off white British rapists while convicting the nonwhite immigrant ones. The UK justice system is also inherently misogynist- only 3% of rapists ever get convicted because women are not listened to. For all the talk about patriarchal cultures- we need to look in the mirror when it comes to rape. Hardly anyone is caught and next to no one is convicted and that is down to us and our culture.

We can’t be using Wikipedia as anything that resembles an accurate source, surely.

CurlewKate · 20/11/2025 23:57

@Winter2020Thank you. However, the article you linked to seems to show that the children of immigrants do not commit significantly more crimes if other factors, such as poverty and educational achievement are taken into consideration.@RingoJuicehas research showing that cultural differences are perpetuated past the second generation, which is rather different.
