How do Reform plan on dealing with immigration?

Farage has said Reform will stop the boats within two weeks of "passing legislation". It is also going to kick out people who have been here for decades. And it is going to ban paracetamol, swan-eating and Sadiq Khan's Sharia law London.

It is all very, very impressive and not at all bigoted.

The situation the uk faces is not wholly down to Conservative incompetence. Some of our issues have been decades in the making.

I'd say it started under Thatcher and each gov has created problems including labour but I think it's fair to highlight the lack of growth under 14yrs of the Tories when people expect labour to grow the economy in a year.

We are an uneducated electorate

can't disagree with that.

@Livelovebehappy so you agree you need cross party agreement to change the NHS model?

Stopping boats isn’t bigotry, it’s common sense. You’re taking out of context about kicking people out of the country who have right to remain. The rest is nonsense. Are you canvassing/lobbying your MP to sort out the Labour Party? That’s a good starting point if you don’t want Reform in power. Going on SM calling voters bigots and racists is not going to achieve anything. But actually being proactive to get the current leadership to improve and listen to the electorate might.

Livelovebehappy · 27/09/2025 09:40

Be truthful. Do you think Labour, or any government, are going to be able to fix the NHS within the next four years if they persist with sticking with it as is, with interjection of even more money which doesn't even touch the sides? Money has been poured into it in the last couple of decades, with no improvement, but it’s in fact worsened. Time to call it a day.

I don't think they will "fix" everything within a single term as it has been neglected for far too long and the problems run far deep. However, I do believe that they will be able to make significant improvements within this parliament that the next government could continue to build upon, if they were inclined to do so.

And yes, reform of the NHS is needed, but I don't think that needs to involve dismantling it and selling it off in the way that Reform intends.

You think it's time to call it a day. I disagree.

We do, but I’m also doubtful that that will work, because the parties are too far apart in what they think is needed to make the NHS work. It’s a huge thing to actually admit defeat with the NHS existing in its current format. There needs to be unpopular decisions made, ones that will improve our healthcare system in the long term. Same as state pension, it’s going to be a poisoned chalice for any party who makes the decision to tackle it. But it has to be done.

clipboardz · 27/09/2025 09:56

So what is the solution then?

My post does not call anyone a bigot. It calls Farage's policies and the utter twaddle that he came out with earlier this week bigoted.

I didn't call wanting to stop the boats bigoted. Anyone in their right mind wants to see the boats stopped. I was just repeating exactly what Farage has said he will do. Which is basically so vague, it is worthless.

The retrospective rescinding of ILR would lead to some people having to leave the UK against their wishes.

Do you believe there is Sharia law in London and that "foreigners" are eating swans? Or is that just rhetoric designed to appeal to bigots?

In some ways I hope they do get in just so that people then realise how inexperienced they are and exactly what they’ve voted for. They’ve not costed policies, they’re trying entirely on immigration. They’ve will decimate the nhs.

I feel like I am experiencing all of the above right now, but replace Reform with Labour.

MidnightMeltdown · 26/09/2025 11:53

I don’t vote reform but frankly, I think it will serve a lot of people right if they do get in. Immigration has been the number one public concern for decades now, and the political elite think that they can just arrogantly ignore it, and fail to come up with any adequate solutions. Whether you agree with it or not, you can’t just ignore the feelings of the majority. Lots of people voted Brexit for the same reasons.

This really resonates. All the major parties tinker around the edges of mass immigration. How are digital ID cards going to curb it exactly? If you want to work cash in hand and can find someone who’s happy to skip all the hassle of formally employing someone legally, digi ID cards are no problem.

@MidnightMeltdownit’s a great point about Brexit. That was a disastrous result for most people. We can expect other disastrous outcomes (Reform’s economic / welfare / employment rights / NHS strategies) unless the major parties address the migration situation head on.

It would absolutely serve everyone right if Reform get in. Don’t ignore the people you’re representing.

Oooh another one where we could replace Reform with Labour.

chocolate08 · 27/09/2025 10:16

For info, what Labour have done so far.
https://whathaskeirdone.co.uk/results
Much is looking in the long term and after the total chaos and destruction in 14 years, that had to be done.
The Renters Rights Act becomes law next month.
That will make a huge difference to my life. The Tories sat on that for years.
All I can say re the single issue immigration Reform voters is to think a bit and question where your information comes from and think just why you're being fed that information. And, to just remember that Nigel Farage has been on Russian TV and really, really wants to ditch the NHS.

This is what Keir Starmer has done for you so far

The Tories presided over 14 years of decline, undermined our public services, and wrecked our economy. Keir Starmer's Labour Government is getting on with the job, fixing the foundations of our country and delivering the long-term change Britain needs.

They are only going to get more popular as they are the only ones willing to address mass immigration.

It’s all talk though. Most of the things they say are not possible.

clipboardz · 27/09/2025 10:17

Putting aside illegal migration & the boats they do this because it's the only form of growth we have had and voters don't want higher taxes.

clipboardz · 27/09/2025 10:18

@Labraradabrador how is everyone poorer because of labour and why do you think that's why people voted for labour?

ONS data showing slump in disposable income, for starters. it is widely acknowledged the budget will be grim for just about everyone.

Ouch, this is damning with faint praise.

i mean they have managed to generate a number of bullet points and fill the page, but most of these are about as substantial as the paper they are printed on.

I meant the other political parties , as much as people. And it really would, I stand by this.

Labour: we’ll have digital ID cards.

So, if you’re wanting to employ someone casually, cash-in-hand, for - say, 3-4 months or even weeks, and you don’t want all the hassle of paperwork and employer’s National insurance contributions, etc.

And if you’re someone who doesn’t even want to pay tax, and wants to be paid cash in hand…. and doesn’t care about employment rights because you’ll take anything you can get… cleaning private houses, car valeting, delivering, etc etc

How are digital ID cards going to be effective in this situation? I don’t even understand.

Reform: we’ll start turning small boats around in two weeks.

if you’re British-born, disaffected and poor but working flat out, which policy will appeal the most?

I've realised copyright on that doc is 2024. So actually out of date and my apologies. So that would have been within the first 5 months of being in power. I will try to find a more updated one.
