This migrant problem is going to let Reform in isn’t it?

Honestly it’s such a bloody nightmare. Reform are making a total hash of local government from what I’ve read, putting teenagers in charge of whole departments with no relevant experience. What are they going to do if they are elected to run a country!!!! I’m honestly terrified. Labour need to be seen to be actively doing something to quell the far-right momentum that’s gaining traction from ordinary folk. I’m amazed at the average, usually pretty sensible people around me who are now telling me they are going to vote Reform.

there was an interview I saw yesterday where the minister said that thousands of people were being deported regularly. The interviewer asked why there were no videos of this and she said there could be. Well let’s see it! It would absolutely help.

Labour need to go

@MrsBennetsPoorNerves @Nchangeo In my small town, it's not hotels but residential rentals being utilised (probably moving out from hotels ironically). Small town, lack of investment and opportunities to begin with and now girls and young women are being filmed and approached in parks and on their own streets. This isn't one bad apple but appears routine behaviour by many asylum seekers and going unchecked.

The local police, MP, and Home Office are not responding to complaints, and that's before other concerns including shoplifting and impact on local resources.

Perhaps my town is unlucky with the attitudes in the groups being located here, but I suspect similar scenarios are playing out across the country and not being tackled by government is playing right into Reforms dreams.

How do you know the men filming and approaching young girls are asylum seekers? Where is it that you live?

It feels like the UK is just an experiment for the government now.
like a play and we are all back roles.

An experiment in what? What is it specifically this government are doing that troubles you?

It simply isn't true that "everyone" is labelled "far right" these days. Nor is it true to say that everyone who expresses concern about immigration is labelled "far right".

However, it is true that more people are being labelled "far right" these days, because there are growing numbers of people openly expressing far right views.

If someone is calling you "far right", maybe it's time to reflect on what you're saying and why it might be interpreted in that way.

Would you say controlling borders eg with Aus type us is ‘far right’?

@twistyizzy get your facts right ! He was neither privately educated nor went to oxford for 1st degree, went for his post grad

Reigate Grammar was a direct grant grammar school. It was always partially private, that’s how they worked. Keir Starmer’s fees were paid by the local authority both before and after it returned to independent status when the direct grant grammar schools were abolished.

I am sorry to say that unless Labour step up now - as in right now - and make some really drastic decisions that will work, it is a done deal. The alternative is actually worse as I see it - where we will see sustained civil unrest.

Reform as I see it are the only thing keeping some sections of society quiet. They are at least representing these people.

I do so want to keep our beautiful peace, our constructive and most cohesive country in tact. We clearly can not go on. Some hard decisions will have to be made at a political level.

Soulfulunfurling · 24/07/2025 17:05

There is a WINDOW of opportunity, do I think Labour will be bold and take it on, I wish, but I doubt it.

Some properties have been confirmed by landlords, some the residents themselves and sometimes just obvious - a group of men speaking little or no English suddenly appearing in a rented house or hmo and spending most of the day sat on a garden wall, park or town centre, it's not a wild leap of fancy. This is NW England.

MyNameIsX · 24/07/2025 17:08

If there is a God, and He is merciful, yes.

cremedelacraps · 24/07/2025 17:12

Nigel is in favour of migration isn't he? He's a capitalist after all.

WideOpenBeaches · 24/07/2025 17:20

We’ll just have a re run of what is happening in the US.

It’ll be the mother of all sh*t shows.

If this happens, I’m out of the UK. I’ve been exploring opportunities…

I for one can’t wait for reform to take over. I voted for them last time and I will next time too.

Well some people in Germany were equally as enthralled by the Nazi party in the 30s…

He wants to ‘reopen a conversation’.

What conversation is needed exactly?! Abortion is healthcare for women

You're not allowed to equate Reform supporters with Nazis. Doing so magically makes non-Reform supporters turn into Reform supporters.

Or something

I’m not but that is how is starts - the Nazis started out emboldening people who felt oppressed. Were they actually oppressed or did the Nazis just focus on the fears - those evil male migrants raping our daughters. Then it is ALL migrants. Then all non-white people…

History repeats itself.

If someone thinks the asylum system is chaotic and lacking security do they fall into this often mentioned Nazi category?

If you can control borders what we have just look like an odd thing to want. Chaos on beaches in France and then here with hotels. It’s strange people think it’s a good system.

Maddy70 · 24/07/2025 17:39

Yes ... The misinformation is out there too and the governments actual action isn't being shared by the right wing press. Reform don't have any actual solutions for it , just a load of rhetoric that can't be actioned

Kendodd · 24/07/2025 17:42

Nigel Farage is loving all this unrest.
And how quickly people forget that the only reason we now have such big immigration numbers is BECAUSE of Nigel Farage and his beloved brexit. We swapped largely young single Europeans, in roughly equal numbers of M/F and who often go home after a few years for families from Africa and Asia who stay forever and get cousins over to marry their children when they grow up.
Exactly as predicted.

You are being generous to Nigel Farage. Not only does he love the unrest, he is fuelling it by making sonorous pronouncements about the scale of unrest we should expect, and saying the police bussed pro-migration demonstrators to migrant-housing hotel in Epping when in fact they were moved out of the way of the local protesters for their safety.

Whippetlovely · 24/07/2025 17:49

notimagain · 24/07/2025 13:26

Automatically labelling and dismissing anyone and everyone who objects to the use of their local hotels by migrants as XRW or neo-facist is a sure fire way of getting a Reform Government next time around

Absolute 100%. The issue was a youngster was SA and local mums were starting off protesting, same thing in Ireland. These so called neo nazi groups come, cause trouble and that ends up in the news instead of the issue that caused the protest in the first place! False flag if you ask me. I think it's all deliberate probably paid persons to undermine people's genuine concerns. Not really falling for this nonsense anymore.

Edited

Who is paying these people to act as neo nazis?

Southwestten · 24/07/2025 17:53

Does the evidence that the protests have been orchestrated by neo nazi groups not concern you.

@MrsBennetsPoorNerves does the fact the counter protests are organised by the far left not concern you?

Why would I think that? Have I called anyone a Nazi on this thread? Nope.

Eta: I agree the asylum system is broken and has been for a long time. The Tories could have fixed it instead of piddling about with white elephants like Rwanda. How much money did they waste again?

I agree.

But unfortunately there are many who do not. Weirdly recently including a bunch of white British 16yos on tiktok (both male and female) who seem to think of this as some moral hypothetical quandary.

And then obviously there are sectors of society due to religion, culture or partiarchy/ misogyny who do not value women’s autonomy.

The former could vote Reform and their abortion conversation will be a bonus. Obviously the latter wouldnt be voting reform (as I am not talking about Christian fundamentalists here). However if this becomes a ‘national conversation’ then they will obviously be included in that.

It’s dangerous and not a conversation that needs to be had.
