This migrant problem is going to let Reform in isn’t it?

Honestly it’s such a bloody nightmare. Reform are making a total hash of local government from what I’ve read, putting teenagers in charge of whole departments with no relevant experience. What are they going to do if they are elected to run a country!!!! I’m honestly terrified. Labour need to be seen to be actively doing something to quell the far-right momentum that’s gaining traction from ordinary folk. I’m amazed at the average, usually pretty sensible people around me who are now telling me they are going to vote Reform.

there was an interview I saw yesterday where the minister said that thousands of people were being deported regularly. The interviewer asked why there were no videos of this and she said there could be. Well let’s see it! It would absolutely help.

Did you see the press that Farage was apparently talking about sending our worst criminals to reside in El Salvadorian jails? How the hell does he think he’s going to make that happen?!!! Its completely bizarre.

Exactly. I’m surprised he wasn’t promising to make the Rwanda plan happen flawlessly as well.

Does the evidence that the protests have been orchestrated by neo nazi groups not concern you.

@MrsBennetsPoorNerves does the fact the counter protests are organised by the far left not concern you?

Being antti racist is now being Far left?

And Farage already admitted he lied about counter protesters being bussed in.

Soulfulunfurling · 24/07/2025 17:57

I really think we should stop using the word nazi. It is really not helping matters.

If this happens, I’m out of the UK. I’ve been exploring opportunities…

@WideOpenBeaches If Reform are elected and then booted out four years later, will you return to UK?
Will you keep any property in UK or will you move lock stock, and barrel?
What will happen if the country you’ve moved to then elects a right wing government?

Orangemintcream · 24/07/2025 18:01

I would be happy to pay more for excellent t services.

My problem is I am not sure we would get them given if the government is in charge of them ! We don’t seem to have the skills or the set up for this.

We would need some serious lessons from the nordics to get there.

I don't think a Reform government would last six months, let alone 4 years. Look at the mess they are making at a local level after less than three months.

Some of the worst criminal networks we deal with are from Eastern Europe. This isn’t about race, it’s about space. It’s about retaining quality of life and it’s about having security and order.

Soulfulunfurling · 24/07/2025 18:06

Whether ANY party is able to genuninely offer a solution remains to be seen..

Neo nazis were present at the protest, ignoring that is not helping matters.

Really? Do they call themselves neo nazis? I have never seen an actual nazi in the U.K. in the 50 years I have lived here.

Kaaardiffgalnow · 24/07/2025 18:13

Next year's Senedd elections will be a good indicator. Reform will give Welsh Labour quite a hiding, although aren't likely to take power.

justasking111 · 24/07/2025 14:11

The labour government are such a Debbie downer scrabbling around to see what they can tax next.

Add in the councils, water authorities, energy providers doing exactly the same. Anyone working, retired, in a pension scheme is in someone's sights.

We're being rinsed, there's a lot of resentment towards central and local government.

Reform are pouring into the vacuum.

Yes we are

Yes, some are openly calling themselves neo-nazis, and they were present in Epping.

The far right are putting a lot of money into creating fear and chaos, especially on social media. And unfortunately many of the British public are lapping it all up and taking the propaganda at face value. Same happened with Brexit.
Tufton Street and the like…

And Covid. I'm not saying that it was false, but there was certainly deliberate creating of fear and panic, for very different reasons. This media trick is now getting old. And it also means that if there's a genuine emergency, lots of people (like me) will be saying "yeah, whatever".

WideOpenBeaches · 24/07/2025 18:52

@Southwestten and @PandoraSocks

I have recently gone down a rabbit hole wrt American politics. We report on very little of what’s going on over there… and it’s a bad BAD situation.

(I suspect the UK news mollifies or ignores a lot of it as we have a ‘reasonable’ tariff deal and we know what happens when you get on the wrong side of Trump…)

I see the UK going the same way if we let Farage in. I totally agree… the local council shenanigans should make people turn away from voting for them, but we got hoodwinked into thinking that leaving the EU was a good idea and look what happened!

People are easily swayed by SM and sound bites. Our press knows exactly what buttons to press to get people riled up.

Farage is an excellent orator… just like Boris was. 😫

Im looking at Canada. You’re correct. The far right could win next, but I think Canadians are looking at what’s happening with their neighbour and will hesitate to go in the same direction.

Canada is a huge country and most of the issues that concern people are what’s happening in their state (BC) rather than their standing on the world stage.

It’s early days. I have an elderly relative who needs me atm, but I have relatives in BC and could move over there legally.

Re sound bites it’s not just one party getting buy in - smash the gangs did similar at last GE, toolmaker stuff too. And no tax rises.

Nchangeo · 24/07/2025 17:55

I agree.

But unfortunately there are many who do not. Weirdly recently including a bunch of white British 16yos on tiktok (both male and female) who seem to think of this as some moral hypothetical quandary.

And then obviously there are sectors of society due to religion, culture or partiarchy/ misogyny who do not value women’s autonomy.

The former could vote Reform and their abortion conversation will be a bonus. Obviously the latter wouldnt be voting reform (as I am not talking about Christian fundamentalists here). However if this becomes a ‘national conversation’ then they will obviously be included in that.

It’s dangerous and not a conversation that needs to be had.

I am 45 now so it won’t affect me but I would be terrified for young women if they get in. Along with other people!

Reminds me that women only ‘gain’ what men let us have…until they change their minds

Blackcordoroys · 24/07/2025 19:33

I saw a poll that said 71% of British women want the abortion limit lowered, so their ‘conversation’ might not be that unpopular.

frankly, where I live, if people vote for reform I will breathe a sigh of relief that they are engaging with a democratic process. It could be worse. I’m worried about riots this summer.

I am worried about women losing healthcare.

I am pro-choice - if someone doesn’t like abortion then they should have one.

Maybe if people actually looked at the situation pre Brexit when certain controls were legally in place with regards to returns etc and post Brexit when the French and Belgians had no such obligations then it might get through why Brexit was such a shit idea in all kinds of ways. However the bigger issue is the fact of the numbers Johnson and Sunak allowed in ( plus their families needing resources) and encouraged ‘legally’ in order to mask the fact that Brexit was a shit show economically in terms of jobs that others simply didn’t want to do . I cannot believe people arestupid enough to actually believe Farages bar room pub talk without any idea of resources or money needed to go along with his back of fag packet policies - his bunch of total weirdos couldn't run a piss up in a brewery and it might take him getting in for many to realise that - I’m not that bothered as if it looks like he’s getting in then we will invoke nomad visas as luckily we can and be off . You will see a tax drain of people who can work remotely and have passive income like never before.

This.
