This migrant problem is going to let Reform in isn’t it?

Honestly it’s such a bloody nightmare. Reform are making a total hash of local government from what I’ve read, putting teenagers in charge of whole departments with no relevant experience. What are they going to do if they are elected to run a country!!!! I’m honestly terrified. Labour need to be seen to be actively doing something to quell the far-right momentum that’s gaining traction from ordinary folk. I’m amazed at the average, usually pretty sensible people around me who are now telling me they are going to vote Reform.

there was an interview I saw yesterday where the minister said that thousands of people were being deported regularly. The interviewer asked why there were no videos of this and she said there could be. Well let’s see it! It would absolutely help.

Labour pledged to stop using hotels anyway. It looks like they’ve messed up on the gang thing so yes they’ll probably see Reform gain from that.

Why pledge to stop hotels and then immediately make use of more hotels? Is he stupid?

Greens0172 · 24/07/2025 15:37

I want Reform win I voted for them last time

They wont fix immigration or do right but it will give Labour and Tories a kick up the a** to stop ignoring general public

The rnli are getting paid for these rescues by the government. It wouldn't be possible otherwise

And which government is going to sanction the RNLI or even the Navy to stand guard and allow kids to die or worse sink the boats which would be sanctioning the murder of civilians. They can’t slash the boats on French soil as that’s not our land. The only way to solve it is to stop the people smugglers or cooperate with Europe to stop the travel of people across the landmass or of course stop the people from wanting to come by burning down hotels and talking about mass deportation.

Reform will happen in the UK for the same reasons Trump is happening in the US. Because poor white people do not feel listened to or fairly treated in what they consider their own country.

Whether this is right or wrong it must be addressed. Personally I think concerns should be addressed before rioting stage but he we are.

When this is the level of thinking amongst the electorate, it's hard not to lose hope really. How can we have hope for the future of the country when this is the level of reasoning that people apply to their choices?

I am torn between feeling furious with people like this and simultaneously feeling really sorry for them.

Careful, I think this could backfire very badly. In fact, given the general lack of experience of Reform candidates and the odd and offensive comments a few of them have made, it could backfire in weird and extraordinary ways that we can't yet foresee.

As well as the recent racist comments made by Reform candidates, I'll never forget the UKIP local government candidate from a few years back who wanted to ban golf courses and bring back the guillotine!

That's what people said about Brexit.

That turned out well.

Farage wants to make America light. He wants to ban abortion. He wants to stoke culture division and race wars. He wants to go down in the history books and he doesn’t care what for.

Farage wants to ban abortion? Really? I didn’t know that.

SaywhatIthink · 24/07/2025 16:00

It feels like the UK is just an experiment for the government now.
like a play and we are all back roles.

I don't think he has explicitly said that he wants to ban it, but he has certainly expressed a wish to restrict it.

@MrsBennetsPoorNerves Dont insult me, you are part of the problem if you think this and you are part of the problem/reason we only get 1 of 2 parties and none of the county issues are ever dealt with.

Under labour and tories, immigration has rocketed public services dont work and the cost of living crisis which has been forgotten means I can just about barely afford bills when I work a million hours a week. On HMRC app for my tax apart from the NHS most of my tax goes on welfare and I bet a lot of people it goes on people who choose not to work

How can I not vote for a third party to see how the perform when the existing two are so shockingly bad?

PropertyD · 24/07/2025 16:16

People who sneer at other people's voting choice are a real problem. It tends to be the Left Wing who cannot possibly understand why people dont think as they do.

Who are they to feel sorry for people who dont vote in the same way as them?

You're free to vote for whoever you choose. That's how our democracy works.

I'm free to think that you're an idiot to vote for a party that will make your already difficult life much harder for you.

But you go ahead. Ultimately, the electorate gets the quality of government that it deserves.

'anti-establishment' my arse.
Would that be privately educated, ex-city trader Nigel Farage by any chance? Or multi-millionaire, went to Uppingham Richard Tice....?

Dappy777 · 24/07/2025 16:22

Well you could start by not calling people concerned about mass immigration far-right. For crying out loud, everyone is labelled far-right these days. I actually saw someone who wanted to deport an illegal immigrant convicted of rape labelled ‘faaaaaaar-right’. It’s insane. Any rational person (obviously I don’t include brainwashed members of the left-wing cult in that) can see that these boatloads of young men are not “frightened refugees fleeing war and persecution.” They are a mix of economic migrants, criminals and rootless drifters. This pressure on Europe’s borders isn’t going away. Africa has the highest birth rate in the world, and the African population is going to double - just as climate change starts causing chaos. Either mainstream politicians crack down and deport people with no right to be here, or you really will see far-right parties gain power.

Alowl · 24/07/2025 16:24

But there is lawlessness. Shoplifting is rife.
Drugs everywhere. The smell of weed is everywhere.
Anti social behaviour everywhere.
I have a family member who works in a small Tesco and shoplifting is rife and obviously the staff can’t do anything, not safe. Police don’t come because under £100.

It simply isn't true that "everyone" is labelled "far right" these days. Nor is it true to say that everyone who expresses concern about immigration is labelled "far right".

However, it is true that more people are being labelled "far right" these days, because there are growing numbers of people openly expressing far right views.

If someone is calling you "far right", maybe it's time to reflect on what you're saying and why it might be interpreted in that way.

woodlandcalm · 24/07/2025 16:32

Many will vote based on what they perceive as the most important issue for them directly and asylum seekers being dumped in small towns and seemingly going unchecked is a huge worry for many. Being ignored or called racist for expressing worries is also fanning the flames now.

Talk of stopping the unknown smuggler gangs is just noise, the party who offers to tackle head-on will get the votes. It's that simple.

Nchangeo · 24/07/2025 16:36

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 24/07/2025 14:55

It's a small town.

And yes, the young men often have nothing to do. It is really bad for their mental health, but unfortunately, they are not allowed to work. We could fix that if we wanted to.

I used to work with the young asylum seekers living locally. My young adult volunteered with them for an extended period as well. Neither she nor I ever had any bad experiences... the young men were nothing but polite and respectful, even though my dd was young and very pretty. Many of them had experienced a horrific amount of trauma, and they just wanted to rebuild their lives in a safe place. They didn't present a risk to anyone, really.

I do completely understand people being distressed and angry about a teenager being sexually assaulted, of course, but the only the perpetrator is responsible for that. It isn't fair to blame all the other asylum seekers who have done nothing wrong.

I am sure individually these migrants stories are harrowing. And anyone, even the most hardened anti immigration bloke down the pub would likely have a beer with them and be slapping their back saying you’re one of us - your one of the good ones - your welcome here.

And it’s true. They are human just like us. And the majority are not criminals.

But this is not about one migrant in a pub. This is about tens of thousands of illegal immigrants and hundred of thousands of legal ones. 1 million per year of non-eu migrants in years ending 23 and 24. It is a critical mass point.

And yes your right the comparatively tiny number of migrants in these male only hotels are not the root cause of this wider migration issue, nor of our societal decline. But when you live next to a hotel they are the ones most likely to be sat outside your front door.

I don’t know the answer but I get the problem. And if someone doesn’t do something we will have reform voted in or something worse. They probably won’t solve this immigration problem but they will do stupid other things like ‘reopen a conversation’ on abortion, and god forbid PPs other insane ideas from these councillors of trying to ban golf courses or bring back the guillotine. Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if they wanted to allow people to carry arms. This country will then be no better than the ones these migrants are fleeing.

I agree, maybe not ‘everyone’ but lots are, for having perfectly legitimate views that aren’t far right, from far left leaning people just because you highlight ANY problem or potential issues with migrants.

Or maybe if you’re the one (not you individually) calling people far right you should actually stop and listen to what they’re saying than be quick to label.

There are posters on here who call women wanting to retain single sex spaces and recognising you can’t change sex as ‘far right’. Doesn’t stop and make me reflect on my views as I know they are loons.

I’m afraid many people think there is.

I know many people think Labour are waging war on British people. That doesn't make it any the less an absurd idea.

woodlandcalm · 24/07/2025 16:52

@MrsBennetsPoorNerves @Nchangeo In my small town, it's not hotels but residential rentals being utilised (probably moving out from hotels ironically). Small town, lack of investment and opportunities to begin with and now girls and young women are being filmed and approached in parks and on their own streets. This isn't one bad apple but appears routine behaviour by many asylum seekers and going unchecked.

The local police, MP, and Home Office are not responding to complaints, and that's before other concerns including shoplifting and impact on local resources.

Perhaps my town is unlucky with the attitudes in the groups being located here, but I suspect similar scenarios are playing out across the country and not being tackled by government is playing right into Reforms dreams.
