Why do some people think Trump is a good man?

There are a lot of people, even in the UK who act like you have offended their mum or dad if you point out what an awful person he clearly is. Even his own family don't like him and plenty of people have said how his relationships with his own children are merely transactional.

If people like him, is it because they are fascists themselves deep down? Or is it some type of mass hysteria?

I believe that millions of undocumented immigrants have been in the US for a very long time, at least a decade. He's also talking about immigrants who have residency and removing whole families. He's going to have to change the law.

If you have residency you are not illegal. Although he will (hopefully) revoke TPS for several nationalities such as Hondurans and Haitians.

And for those with citizen children, they can just be deported together for now, they cannot sponsor parents until iirc they are 18. Birthright citizenship will hopefully be removed moving forward to make things less complicated.

Trump must be planning on deporting legal immigrants because he wants to get rid off 20m immigrants, there are only 11m illegal immigrants in the US.

Stephen Miller is talking about 'turbocharging' denaturalisation and there's talk of getting rid off birthright citizenship. If the US is removing whole families, some of them may very well be legal citizens.

Temporary Protected Status (TPS) is for people fleeing war and natural disasters. Over 500,000 DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) recipients are also at risk of being deported.

Yes, a lot of those are currently ‘legal’ but will not be once TPS is revoked (for example, those Haitians in Springfield are ‘legal’ but their status could be revoked via executive order).

I am hoping that birthright citizenship will be revoked, yes. And children who are citizens will likely be deported along with their family members, because otherwise they’d be in the foster system and that is not a good outcome tbh.

It’s beyond time to clamp down on illegal immigration. This is exactly what I voted for.

So you just want to get rid off immigrants irrespective of their status?

There will be legal immigrants with unexpired work visas/student visas. That’s not what I’m referring to

I mean you want to get rid off people who are naturalised citizens, refugees, American citizens married to or the children of illegal immigrants and DACA recipients. These are all people legally entitled to live in the US.

As wary of ‘this is exactly what I voted for’. Unintended consequences bite back hard. As many British voters could tell you ‘this is what I voted for has a tendacy to turn into ‘this isn’t what I voted for’ very quickly when promises come face to face with reality.

Oh please. They are nowhere near as critical of them as they should be.
Trumpers s call telling the truth instead of sucking up to Trump a "left wing bias."

I'm definitely not a Trumper. Most American media tends to lean left, though there are Conservative outlets that are less critical of Trump (if not outright fawning).

Are people getting their news from X?

I think that's where confirmation bias comes in. People who look primarily to social media for news tend to seek sources that reinforce what they already believe.

There was a report released by Gallup on “Americans’ Trust in Mass Media.” in October this year. It has released this poll since 1972.

The poll found that in 1976, the percentage of Americans with a "great deal/fair amount” of trust was seventy per cent. Today, that number sits at thirty-one per cent.

For the third year in a row, more Americans
have “no trust at all” in the media.

American cable "news" channels have 24/7 programming. Most of this consists of "opinion" programs which I would classify as entertainment vs actual news reporting. So basically talking heads spewing a lot of hot air into their own echo chambers.

Nobody should put a lot of "trust" in this type of media. If you enjoy that type of programming then by all means watch it, but don't make the mistake of thinking that you're getting objective news reporting.

Of course there are legitimate news sources but you have to be discerning about your media consumption. It's discouraging that so many people seem content to only watch coverage that dovetails with their own political beliefs. I'm old enough to remember when a television news anchor would report the news of the day and never give you their opinion. I can't imagine what Walter Cronkite would make of the state of present day American media.

I should have been clearer. The poll is regarding trust in the news and the media is newspapers, television and radio.

Therefore the majority of Americans don't trust any media irrespective of how reputable it might be.

The legality of these particular categories are under debate, yes. I feel they should go back to their home countries and voted along those lines. You may feel differently, as is your right.

No I will be very happy if Trump can get this done, in line with the wishes of the electorate.

They are correctly under the impression that they are home as they are American citizens.

Anyway, you've answered the question. Your problem is not illegal immigrants, it's all immigrants irrespective of their status.

Doubt that would include Musk though.

Lyannaa · 23/11/2024 21:01

Trump promised to round up immigrants. I believe he's promised to round up 20m even though there are approximately 11m undocumented immigrants in the US.

Los Angeles and Massachusetts have both pledged to work against this endeavour to evict immigrants.

Even the Latin American community came out to vote for him because no one likes illegal immigrants.

Yes, there is a certain kind of hypocrisy within humanity like this that was also evident when Asian immigrants in the UK voted for Brexit. It was ok for them to come here, but after that the gates should close, apparently.

I am fine with a certain amount of legal immigration of people like Musk who obviously bring a lot to the country.

You will probably screech ‘it’s cause he’s yt’ but it’s actually because he has established several valuable companies in America.

(and under no circumstances is someone in a DACA category a legal immigrant, what makes you think they are?)

Notaflippinclue · 23/11/2024 21:14

Perhaps they'll concentrate on gangs and criminals and folks that don't take on the American way - folks that contribute and prove themselves give em a chance

RingoJuice · 23/11/2024 21:15

Yeah, the mayor of Denver said this. Literally the day after it was reported an illegal immigrant raped a girl in his city. People will NOT like the consequences of their actions.

Maybe they realize that only high-level immigrants should come? Maybe they escaped a place like Afghanistan and don’t want to see the kind of dysfunction that happened there to happen in their new country? Lots of good reasons tbh

Lyannaa · 23/11/2024 21:19

Honest is not a word I associate with him. He claims to know more about stuff 'than anybody else' and claims to have an IQ of 160 when he's clearly thick as mince. Remember the comment about injecting people with bleach to cure Covid??

To be fair, he didn't say this, if you google "white light, bleach" you will find what he said. He was referring to something a HS person had said in a presentation just before Trump spoke briefly. I think it would also be fair to say that medical stuff is not his strong point, but the same could be said about most world leaders at the time, and Trump was basically trying to make sense of what had been said and kept asking the person "you are researching this, then?"

This is an example of why people are hacked off. There is a lot of discrediting and b*llocks going on, about nonsense. Just now people are worried about ww3. They are worried about not being able to afford food and other basics. They don't care about the mindless nonsense.

CelebrityLeftist · 23/11/2024 21:23

FFS

“mass hysteria” = TDS

”fascists” do you even know the meaning of the word?

@RingoJuice right, because only immigrants commit sex crimes, eh?

A crime committed by an illegal immigrant is by definition a crime that did NOT need to happen. It was 100% preventable.

And illegal immigrants tend to be young males, who (by far) pose the highest risk for violent crime
