Why do some people think Trump is a good man?

Lyannaa · 16/11/2024 19:28

There are a lot of people, even in the UK who act like you have offended their mum or dad if you point out what an awful person he clearly is. Even his own family don't like him and plenty of people have said how his relationships with his own children are merely transactional.

If people like him, is it because they are fascists themselves deep down? Or is it some type of mass hysteria?

Many people in the States are angry and frustrated. They're working harder than ever and getting less and less in return. They want someone who they can relate to who is going to shake things up and stick it to the man.

Lyannaa · 16/11/2024 19:40

Honest is not a word I associate with him. He claims to know more about stuff 'than anybody else' and claims to have an IQ of 160 when he's clearly thick as mince. Remember the comment about injecting people with bleach to cure Covid??

Some people aren't very bright

Some people share his lack of a moral dimension and have no problem with his appalling behaviour

Some people are ultra-Christian extremists who believe that God choosing to work through an imperfect instrument like Trump is a marvellous thing

Some people are brought up with such a visceral hatred of democrats that it's practically sectarianism and they believe anyone other than Trump means communist dystopia

Ah yes, the multi millionaire is really going to "stick it to the man" 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Delusion is the reason.

He's just won a landslide. Not bad for someone 'thick as mince'.

Some of his policies are advantageous to certain demographic groups - so they vote for him in order to benefit from those advantages.

Also, I think everyone needs to calm down about Trump. He can only stay for 4 years, that'll soon be over, and then he's gone forever. He can't do much damage, the POTUS is a bit like a figurehead, the real power lies with the Senate and House of Representatives.

ObieJoyful · 16/11/2024 19:48

Because there are news channels in the US who support him. They must heavily censor what they put out because my friend, who used to live in Texas, was a Trump supporter before she moved back to the UK… she couldn’t believe some of the stuff he came out with when she saw footage of him here!

Lyannaa · 16/11/2024 19:49

Winning an election doesn't mean you're intelligent. Plenty of fascist dictators all over the world.

And @username358 you've edited your first comment so that my response doesn't make sense now. You said that Trump is 'honest' and then deleted it. I wonder why? That's not what the edit function is for FYI

You realise the Republicans won both the house and the senate though? Confused

PermanentTemporary · 16/11/2024 19:53

No idea. He's a disgusting person in so many ways. He's a corrupt, racist person who is obsessed with status. Thick as mince isn't right imo; he's cunning and manipulative with zero shame. Given that we had Johnson for so many years, I don't doubt that most of us as voters are shallow and easily led. I think Johnson and Trump despise us for choosing them.

Because I thought my paragraph said it better.

Plenty of fascist dictators were intelligent enough to know what appealed to people's emotions. Many were highly charismatic.

Trump is honest in the sense that he shows you the mechanism behind the curtain.

This is a best case scenario. But he has more than hinted he might try to change the law to enable him to stay in the WH come what may.

I bet he does!!!!

I've got visions of Trump hanging onto the White House frontdoor by his fingernails whilst the FBI try to unprise his fingers 😂

Havalona · 16/11/2024 20:06

Those who voted for Trump were not voting for him, but voting for anyone but the Dems.

No one could be that stupid as to vote for that moron, but I believe they felt they could not vote for the Dems due to their leftie woke leanings and a black woman. I know, I know, Trump is despicable and there will be trouble ahead especially for women I think, but that's America for you.

Of which the GOP control both, so a bit of a moot argument

Havalona · 16/11/2024 20:10

Well the only good thing I can think of is that at least Elon Musk cannot be President at any point in the future.

I'd be very wary of him just the same. A puppeteer.

Uricon2 · 16/11/2024 20:16

There is something that he says to people who feel like their left behind that appeals to them and it is true that there are many of them in the US, who have rejected the Democrats because they do not speak for them anymore.

Bernie Sanders understood this last time and understands it now, but because he is regarded as being somewhat to the left of Lenin, when he is actually a democratic socialist, his voice and those like him are ignored, and they elect a monster.

RosieLeaf · 16/11/2024 20:18

People don’t need to like a president personally. He has said he is going to halve energy costs for US citizens in a year. He has said he’ll make sure they have more money in their pockets, when they are currently feeling financial pressures from rising costs of gas, prices, energy, inflation.

Kamala didn’t offer anything.

People vote with their wallets when the going gets tough.

I would say the democrats are the 'least bright' considering they couldn't defend against Trump.

Calling the majority in America racist, thick, etc will never win votes.

He swept to victory. The question isn't why they voted for him, it's why they didn't vote for the Democrats.

spuddy4 · 16/11/2024 20:23

Their other option was rubbish and made Trump look more appealing.

They are really going to get a shock when they find out they are the man he’s sticking it too.

And none of them twigged he was lying?

Lyannaa · 16/11/2024 20:27

To clarify, I'm not asking why people voted for him, I'm asking why some people act offended at the assertion that he's a lying sociopath who incited an insurrection.

I have no idea. Maybe they thought a 50/50 chance that he was telling the truth was still better than the zero change of Kamala doing anything.

Crowing that the people who voted for him must be stupid doesn’t help any arguments. The left need to sit down and seriously look at why people voted for him, and not for them. They can’t just claim to BE morally above them and that’s enough.
