Apparently the delay in Trump turning up for NABJ panel interview was because of behind the scenes negotiations re fact checking.
NABJ wanted live fact checking and Trump didn't. The interviewers did push back on many of his lies

The lack OF live fact checking by CNN during Trump/Biden debate makes think he won those negotiations.

I'd love to see red flashing light appear on either podium during the Harris /trump debate when a lie is told. Trump's side is going to look like my neighbours house at Christmas!

Wallaw · 03/08/2024 04:53

Did anyone else read the WaPo story about Trump having possibly taken a $10 million from Egypt in 2016? The criminality never seems to end.

BruceAndNosh · 03/08/2024 07:36

..... And he's changed his mind about debate
From cnn
Former President Donald Trump said he has agreed to participate in a debate hosted by Fox News on September 4 and will no longer participate in the debate he previously agreed to hosted by ABC, when President Joe Biden was the presumptive Democratic nominee.

BruceAndNosh · 03/08/2024 07:40

The Fox News debate would also have a live audience. (hmm I wonder what the political make up of that audience would be?)
No mention of Mike muting

InMySpareTime · 03/08/2024 07:42

Could the ABC debate just go ahead anyway, with Harris on one side and a tub of lard representing the candidate who was invited but failed to attend?

The trouble is, Trump has unilaterally decided on Fox debate with date BEFORE the agreed ABC one. And it looks likes he's setting all the rules.
Does Harris agree to Fox debate? If she doesn't, Trump will say she's chicken.
I admit, it's a masterful move by the orange idiot.

BruceAndNosh · 03/08/2024 09:00

If Har is does the fox debate (which will be heavily biased in Trump's favour) he might just say that there's no point in further debates.
Hes already spinning the lie that he's so far ahead in the polls that debates are pointless
God I hate him

Yes - I saw that report. There's no doubt that there was some very dodgy stuff going on during Trump's first campaign and seems like this was one part of his corrupt glad handing deals that got brushed under the carpet by William Barr.

Part of the report:
^^
Five days before Donald Trump became president in January 2017, a manager at a bank branch in Cairo received an unusual letter from an organization linked to the Egyptian intelligence service. It asked the bank to “kindly withdraw” nearly $10 million from the organization’s account — all in cash.
Inside the state-run National Bank of Egypt, employees were soon busy placing bundles of $100 bills into two large bags, according to records from the bank. Four men arrived and carried away the bags, which U.S. officials later described in sealed court filings as weighing a combined 200 pounds and containing what was then a sizable share of Egypt’s reserve of U.S. currency.

Federal investigators learned of the withdrawal, which has not been previously reported, early in 2019. The discovery intensified a secret criminal investigation that had begun two years earlier with classified U.S. intelligence indicating that Egyptian President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi sought to give Trump $10 million to boost his 2016 presidential campaign, a Washington Post investigation has found.
....
Within months of learning of the withdrawal, prosecutors and FBI agents were blocked by top Justice Department officials from obtaining bank records they believed might hold critical evidence, according to interviews with people familiar with the case as well as documents and contemporaneous notes of the investigation. The case ground to a halt by the fall of 2019 as Trump’s then-attorney general, William P. Barr, raised doubts about whether there was sufficient evidence to continue the probe of Trump.

The behind-the-scenes drama played out during an especially tense time for the Justice Department, with Trump accusing the agency of pursuing a politically biased “witch hunt” against him in its probe of Russian election interference, his appointees seeking to rein in investigators they saw as partisan, and some career supervisors growing wary of plunging the agency into yet another legal battle with the president.

It's a Washington Posr 'exclusive' investigation so I don't know whether it's gained any traction anywhere else. Trump is now a convicted felon and the world knows he'll take money from anyone he can - the MAGAs won't give a toss and media outlets like Fox presumably won't cover it so sadly I can't see it making much of an impact on his current standing in the 2024 election.

But every day, in every way I despise him more and more.

As an aside (and don't want to start dragging the posters onto this thread!) the current thread about KH has some questionable contributions. Not going there, ta very much.

There are multiple posts on YouTube insisting that Harris's father is white despite photos of the contrary

Reminiscent of claims made around Obama's birth and heritage back in the day.

Love the idea of the red light @BruceAndNosh

Also can you get orange lard in tubs? Asking for a friend.

Efacsen · 03/08/2024 13:36

Not a big twitter user but even I have seen a photo of Kamala Harris father in a newspaper - and he's black with 'afro' hair

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 03/08/2024 14:07

in June Trump claimed, very much in public, that only he could get Evan Gershkovich released by Putin; this would be done between him winning the election and him entering the White House. The joke is on him, though, because precisely when he was making that claim Biden and a consortium of other world leaders who'd had citizens taken for use as hostages were secretly negotiating for the return of their people, and yesterday Evan Gershkovich arrived in America.

Eat crow, Trump.

I think the messaging will be all the good things happening in the world today are because "everyone knows" Trump will be POTUS and people "just can't wait".

You are probably right, if he has the brains to think of it, or for once listens to his advisers instead of blowing his mouth as a solo effort.

I really wish it had stayed in the news longer because the points around having a leader who can keep relationships with allies and conduct diplomacy are so huge. The problem is that Tucker Carlson and his ilk have made it so half the country doesn't even understand the importance of it. I watched their arrival the other night and was truly touched by the humanity of Biden and Harris.

Very glad to see Judge Chutkan is on the ball.

I'm not convinced he is capable of a coherent sentence any more, from the recent clips of him.

Jimmy Carter has told his family this week that his goal is to “make it to vote for Kamala Harris” for President.

I had to come off Twitter earlier today as I was getting too upset by the sheer nastiness of the Trump supporters' responses to that report. Why are these people so vile?

Don't look at their reaction to the death of Sheila Jackson Lee if you don't want to be really sickened.

As a renowned businessman, Trump knows the value of sticking to the deal.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 03/08/2024 19:35

@SerendipityJane -Grin Not sure which is funnier, the adjective, "renowned" or the noun "businessman" as applied to Trump.
