Was thinking the other day that it's fortunate Musk isn't American born - I could imagine him thinking he should could be president.

You also need to have lived in the US for 14 years.

Maybe that's what Farage thinks he's doing. (Nobody say a word to him, the US are welcome to him).

That would also scupper a second president Johnson, in the event he were to rediscover his US citizenship.

Musks =sudden GOP aversion is probably due to the fact that - irony alert - Tesla need Democrats to buy their shit cars. You seriously think a MAGA man is going to ever be able to own one ?

Whats annoying is certain parts of the media will be pointing out anything that Harris says or does that's not "Presidential" ignoring the fact trump babbles nonsense most of the time

Amen!

I remember at one point something he said made me madly Google to find out where he was born. Great sighs of relief were heard.

My son was considering a Tesla some time ago, now he wouldn't touch one with a barge pole.

I recall that at one point they were hopping mad because while she was in Paris, Kamala bought some French copper cooking-gear (I think it was a saucepan) which cost more than they liked. If they'd do that, I doubt there is anything they won't seize on and try to make into a reason to think her unfit for office.
Remember Obama's UnPresidential Tan Suit?

It's pure Asterix: "Ils sont fous ces Republicans."

From this side of the pond, the GOP have fallen into the same trap the Tories did. They are furious preaching to their own supporters (possibly chasing some sort of weird dopamine hit) which is easy, cheesy and lapped up by a complicit media without actually influencing anyone who hasn't decided to vote Republican yet.

While it's right to be wary of comparisons and analogies, people are at the heart of politics. And like it or not, people are the same the world over.

You mean he wouldn't mind being recorded the entire time he was in his car, and the film being available to Tesla employees, or did he not know about this? (If he didn't, mention "cabin camera" to him. www.reuters.com/technology/tesla-workers-shared-sensitive-images-recorded-by-customer-cars-2023-04-06/ and he should be aware the default setting is for sharing the data, not for privacy.) In this case, duck tape is your friend, carefully applied to the camera lens, because apparently turning it off also turns off (some functionality of) the satnav.

Seriously, he's probably had a lucky escape: people I know from internet chat who have them seem not to be of the opinion they are worth the money.

Given what people thought of Sarah Palin, that's quite an achievement! ShockGrin

CaveMum · 24/07/2024 15:04

The whole Vance thing is very strange. When his book came out he was being talked of as the new face of the Republican Party and how affable he was. The father was calling Trump out was a huge tick in the box but then he did a total 180 and became one of Trump’s biggest cheerleaders.

Was he seduced by the idea of power and embraced it all costs; is he some sort of double agent, worming his way in to ultimately take the reins and get things back on course?

Take your pick!

poetryandwine · 24/07/2024 15:06

I like @AcrossthePond55 ’s analysis of the VP choices and agree Harris needs to make a pragmatic one. Sadly this requires a straight white man.

At any other time Shapiro would be a great choice, but by prosecuting such an awful war Netanyahu has made things difficult for a Jewish, generally pro-Israeli candidate. Win Pennsylvania at the expense of losing Michigan, another must- have state and the one with the largest and most active Arab-American population in the US? No good.

I agree Beshear and Kelly look like good choices. Possibly Cooper. I think the Dems will get this right. Pelosi knows how to count

Ugh. We have an X - bought before EM revealed himself to be quite such a cunt (sorry). Unfortunately, it's a fantastic car and the charging infrastructure in the UK is unbeatable. Ours is grandfathered in with free supercharging for life. Otherwise, I'd take a sledge hammer to the nazi sled (as Jon Lovett called his).

I think he thought he was going to sell his super-lemon Cybertruck to rich repugs, but now that that's crashed and burned, literally, he's in a bind.

Eh. Considering the data Jeff Bezos, Google (fitbit), Apple (phone, laptop, watch), Sony (smart tv), Vodafone, my neighbours' ring doorbells and the million cameras everywhere etc etc already have about me/us, if Tesla employees are sad enough to get their kicks by watching me in my car, they're more than welcome.

prettybird · 24/07/2024 16:16

Hypothetically, if Biden were really rightfully hard on Netenyahu, which might go some way to addressing understandable Arab concerns about what is going on in Gaza, would Harris choosing Shapiro balance out the Jewish need to feel that the US supports Israel in its struggle against Hamas?

Or would it just piss everyone off?

He also mentions Harris's 'pole numbers'. Do you think he's confusing her with an exotic dancer?

Joe is addressing the nation regarding his stepping down from re-election tonight at 8pm EDT.

I'm sure it'll be on ALL major networks, CNN & MSNBC. Fox'll probably have it on too, but who gives a shit about them lol.
