There was some reporting a while back noting that he was firing his base up that no matter what "they" said, he was going to be the obvious winner. This sets up a repeat of the last election where he will claim it was "stolen" and hope his faithful rise up and take the process by force. Or at least make it seem invalid.
How far or true that may be ... who knows. But we have past performance to go on.
However past performance isn't the sole preserve of any one actor in history. It could be the entire tide of history is now uphill all the way for Trump and no matter what he does, he is losing.
You cannot have an interest in history without eventually encountering counterfactuals - the "What ifs" of history. And usually, when you pick them apart, it turns out there are no magic moments in history. That's just how we tell the stories.
Already we are hearing that Trump hates Vance. Not a great augury for a dream ticket.
I can only say what I see. And I see a slightly smaller Trump than last week.
