and a little birdy tells me Trump is now describing himself as a "brilliant young man" on Truth Social.

Can't decide if I want to 😂 or 🤮.

His powers of delusion are simply monumental. This is also an example of his philosophy of "If you tell a lie often enough, people will believe it's the truth".

SerendipityJane · 24/07/2024 19:12

Pop quiz.

What other famous insurrection failed on 5th November ?

Edited

It's hardly original.

Or even well done.

Surely even Trump must have meant when he was a young man he was brilliant, not that he is now a young man.

I mean, he is delusional, but could even he be that delusional?

I still think that the timing of the president's recusal has been intentional.
they waited until after repuplican's vp confirmation.

Given it's impact and how it's shifted the narrative, it would be amusing if it were pure chance ....

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 24/07/2024 21:21

Good Lord. You're right. That is completely bonkers.

PerkingFaintly · 24/07/2024 21:32

Whatever quality he is envious of in an opponent, he applies to himself.

And whatever is bad in himself, he project onto his opponent.

Time and time again. Although up to now I'd thought his wannabe Obama inauguaration cake was the most pointlessly unhinged...

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 24/07/2024 21:41

https://x.com/duffgoldman/status/822675780341641216?mx=2 ?

But that was years ago: has he really done nothing madder than that since 2017?

PerkingFaintly · 24/07/2024 22:03

Many many more bonkers things!

But the cake sticks out in my memory as particularly pointless - and being similarly all about trying to furnish his inner void with things he's nicked from other people.

AcrossthePond55 · 24/07/2024 22:06

Shall we start taking wagers on when he disappears for a few weeks in order to have some, shall we say, 'surgical freshening up'? Or at the least botox and fillers and a neck lift.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 24/07/2024 22:07

Obama had done the unforgivable and laughed at him. He hates being laughed at: he said so quite recently, which got him mocked mercilessly on his Twitteralike.

SuePreemly · 24/07/2024 22:33

Anyone else seen the footage of him golfing today?

Not a scab, bruise or scratch of that ear which apparently got hit by a bullet last week.

If it me or do I smell bullshit?

Spandauer · 24/07/2024 22:47

Oh, I'd not seen the cake images before!

Did The Donald have an official presidential portrait done as is the custom? I don't remember seeing one after he 'lost' but I know he has several hanging in his various golf resorts. I bet he's already got the image from 'the unfortunate event' enlarged to double A1 size and framed on his wall.

I know there was one supposedly commissioned in 2022, to be paid for by a Trump PAC. Not sure if it was ever completed though.

Normally there is a bit of a ceremony where the current POTUS invites the former POTUS & 1st Lady to have their portraits unveiled. Trump stated he wouldn't be hosting Barack and Michelle. So tacky.

There was never any mention of Joe & Jill inviting the Trumps for an unveiling, but I don't know if that's because there was no painting to unveil or if it was because they were 'returning the favour'. Joe and Jill did, however, invite Barack and Michelle to the WH for the unveiling of their portraits thereby reinstating the tradition. And so class returned to the WH.

I refer you - as I did the entire world a week ago - to the film "Bob Roberts" from 1992.

I am mildly surprised it's not more widely known on MN, as it does feature and extremely creepy Alan Rickman 😀

SerendipityJane · 25/07/2024 08:46

I am wondering if the sudden viability of the opposition will rattle Trump enough to pull out himself, claiming "they've rigged it so I can never win" and start his mini revolution a bit early.

I take it we are all agreed that his current strategy is to do that if he were to lose the election anyway.

Is there talk of a mini revolution if he loses? What are people saying?

That would suggest he doesn't believe in democracy 😆

There was some reporting a while back noting that he was firing his base up that no matter what "they" said, he was going to be the obvious winner. This sets up a repeat of the last election where he will claim it was "stolen" and hope his faithful rise up and take the process by force. Or at least make it seem invalid.

How far or true that may be ... who knows. But we have past performance to go on.

However past performance isn't the sole preserve of any one actor in history. It could be the entire tide of history is now uphill all the way for Trump and no matter what he does, he is losing.

You cannot have an interest in history without eventually encountering counterfactuals - the "What ifs" of history. And usually, when you pick them apart, it turns out there are no magic moments in history. That's just how we tell the stories.

Already we are hearing that Trump hates Vance. Not a great augury for a dream ticket.

I can only say what I see. And I see a slightly smaller Trump than last week.

Slightly smaller, and dare I say slight older? 😆
