I know this probably won't ultimately make any difference to anything, but there is some sweetness to the moment.

Between Aileen Cannon and Alito & Thomas I've been despairing about the justice system. Nice to see it work this time even if it's a temporary reprieve.

With reference to a PP: the Supreme Court can’t change the American Constitution. Adding an amendment requires a 2/3 majority of both houses, then ratification by 3/4 of the states.

They can't change the Constitution but they seem OK to wilfully misread it

They reserve that for really serious issues, like banning alcohol to ensure organised crime has a place in US society.

Watching the news has actually made DH and I smile today. How can you not smile when you hear over and over "Donald Trump is a convicted felon" and "Ex POTUS Trump found guilty of all 34 felonies"? I know, it'll all settle down soon and we'll begin to realize that this is just the beginning of another phase, what with motions and appeals. But we'll enjoy it whilst we can.

Think what you will of her, and I hardly admire her overall, loads of people say she is a devoted mother. Credit where credit is due

There was a brief blurb that she & Barron had been 'smuggled' into Trump Tower via a side door to await the verdict. But that's all that was said and no pictures.

Melania knew what she was getting into so I have to sympathy for her. But I do feel bad for Barron. He always looks so sad.

I really worry about them. I know the courts will do their best to protect their identities, but it will only take one slip of the lip or one deliberate leak for all hell to break loose.

Likewise I have zero sympathy for Melania. She has never given any indication that she doesn't hold the same unpleasant beliefs as Trump. She's as despicable and deplorable as he is.

Barron is, what, 18 now? It would be nice to think that he will form his own (non-Trump!) beliefs and choose his own future path but I wonder if the apple will fall far from the tree? IIRC, Tiffany was about 22 when Trump was elected in 2016 and was originally thought not to be a Trump clone... she's now angling to fill Ivanka's shoes in a 2nd (God forbid!)Trump administration.

Who knows where Barron will land? Sounds as if Melania has had a HUGE influence on him and his upbringing and IMHO that could go either way. But one thing he's probably learnt by observing his mother is that the tree the apple doesn't fall far from isn't an apple tree, it's a money tree. I think that's what has drawn Tiffany in. Stay on Pop's good side, be subsidized. Piss him off, get ready to starve on the streets (hyperbole, but there would be a drastic change in 'lifestyle' for sure). For now, Barron (I assume) wants to go to college so there will need to be at least 4-6 more years of financial support for him to complete his education. I just hope he's allowed to study what he wants to study and not what Daddy thinks will benefit Daddy.

There have been kids who have walked away from the family money and rejected their values. More power to them, but they are few and far between. I'd love to see Barron be one of them.

I also think there's probably a psychological component involved in being in the web of a malignant narcissist - a couple of the kids seem to have a decent streak of that themselves.

I've often wondered if it's the 'same cloth' or if it's the pre-nup. If there's one thing I think Trump is pretty shrewd on it's an iron-clad pre-nup. Marla only walked away with $2mil + child support but that was a short term marriage. Who knows what Melania's pre- (or renegotiated post-) nup is worth at this point. And what stipulations are in it regarding her role as 'political wife' &/or political scapegoat.

Not such an excellent gold digger if her chosen lode is played out, though. I don't suppose Trump can afford her any more.

I'd say he's going to have to afford her at least at the current 'going rate'. I'm sure she has stories to tell that would curl our hair.

And at least here in CA they aren't enforceable if they are used to cover up illegal activities. And I'll bet she has tales to tell on that score, too.
