I've been following the case it was conclusive from day one.

The arrogance of the plaintive was to assume he was above the law

Blackcats7 · 30/05/2024 22:57

Gobsmacked and so pleased. But I fear for anyone caught in the gigantic tantrum he will throw.

Zonder · 30/05/2024 23:06

What happens about sentencing? Surely there has to be some kind of punishment for 34 guilty verdicts?

prettybird · 30/05/2024 23:12

Sentencing 11 July - after the appropriate probation reports Grin

Spandauer · 30/05/2024 23:23

I read somewhere earlier that the probation office in Manhattan is dire. If Trump thinks the courthouse's "ambience" was unacceptable he'll have to think again!

From Washington Post earlier today.

Trump is required to report to the New York City Department of Probation for an interview about his background, his mental health and the circumstances of his case that will be used to help compile a presentencing report.

The charges against Trump are nonviolent Class E felonies, the lowest level in New York, and they are punishable by 16 months to four years in state prison. Legal experts said it is unlikely that Trump, 77, would be incarcerated, given he had not previously been convicted of a crime.

Other options for Merchan include sentencing Trump to probation, which would mean he would need approval from a parole officer to travel outside the state. Trump also could be fined or granted a conditional discharge pegged to the requirement that he stay out of further legal trouble, legal experts said.

Trump’s legal team will have 30 days from the New York verdict to file notice of appeal and six months to file the full appeal. Any appeals process would likely extend beyond the Nov. 5 presidential election. Legal experts said it is plausible that an appeals court would agree to stay Trump’s sentence until after the appeal is adjudicated.

What reassures me somewhat is the lack of big angry MAGA type crowds, angry at the verdict. Smile

What concerns me though is that his unfortunately too many fans still buy into his deluded narcissistic rantings Confused - so the "bad" verdict was already baked in. Worse, it just reinforces his line that he is being persecuted Sad

goneveryquiet · 30/05/2024 23:55

His video of innocence is out already, amazing how the team got it together so quickly 🤣

PerkingFaintly · 31/05/2024 00:06

Wow.

That's all I've got right now.

AcrossthePond55 · 31/05/2024 00:06

I'm finally home, but watching MSNBC to try to catch up.

This is a happy, happy day. I'm not thinking about the sentence. Just enjoying the verdict.

AcrossthePond55 · 31/05/2024 00:46

FYI Michael Cohen will be on MSNBC at 8pm EDT. I realize that's probably late for my UK & Mainland Europe friends. But should be interesting.

Herecomesthesunlittledarlinganditsalright · 31/05/2024 00:54

Does anyone know if there is significance of DT wearing a blue tie today? Doesn’t he usually sport a red tie? (I haven’t been following the trial very closely enough to know for sure)

borntobequiet · 31/05/2024 07:04

Sentencing can be anything from jail time to a fine or community service.

Community service to go far, far, away and shut up would be a good sentence.

BruceAndNosh · 31/05/2024 07:31

I'd like him to do community service picking up dog shit in Central Park.

BruceAndNosh · 31/05/2024 07:33

@Herecomesthesunlittledarlinganditsalright he's mostly Red tie occasionally blue with a surprising orange one making an appearance

BruceAndNosh · 31/05/2024 07:38

Now his base are complaining that sentence will be handed down 4 days before RNC convention (and formal nomination) but his lawyers are partially responsible for it not happening sooner.
What laughable is somewhere in the sentence - assuming it's not custodial - will be a reference to Trump "being of previous good character"

Spandauer · 31/05/2024 08:01

A "very innocent man" (my arse 😂)

The highly successful "billionaire" is pleading for money from his base. Most people can't afford to make these contributions

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 31/05/2024 08:16

I woke up to this news. I am amazed and delighted. Mind you, New Yorkers in general have never been fans of the orange blimp. I am worried that nonetheless, he will apparently still be eligible to stand for election as President and be voted in to ruin run the country again. That shocks me to the core.

Spandauer · 31/05/2024 08:21

Are narcissists able to feel scared/fearful? I do hope so in this instance.

Trump’s own instantaneous reaction to the first “guilty” count is lost to history. The reporters in the courtroom were behind him, unable to see his face. The reporters watching on a closed-circuit video feed in the next room lost the signal at the moment the counts were being read. By the time video showing Trump’s face returned, as he proceeded to be convicted on all counts, he was sitting solemnly, slightly slumped in his chair, blinking blankly, and frowning.

If I weren't so sane, I'd see a conspiracy in that loss to history. Were there no court sketch artists who could see his face at the time?

DuncinToffee · 31/05/2024 09:42

Even the juror who gets their news from TS voted guilty

There is this court sketch from the bbc website but that will be from after the verdict was read

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 31/05/2024 09:59

Thank you, @DuncinToffee. I'm quite surprised he didn't have a hissy fit in court, but I understand he had one as he left the building.
The picture accompanying the article on the BBC website that I just landed on now is very - um - Arian, isn't it?

Many years ago - at least 6 - Charlie Brooker was being interviewed for RHLSTP (RHLSTP !) and he said:

"doesn't it seem like the cunts have been rolling sixes these last few years ?"

Hopefully this is the statistical correction of a series of snake-eyes.

Not all heroes wear capes, and I salute the jurors for doing their duty.

SerendipityJane · 31/05/2024 10:25

I wonder how many western governments have drawn up plans on how to deal with their heads of state dealing with an openly convicted criminal still serving a sentence as POTUS ?

Obviously up until now, you can bet your life the UK hasn't.

This may seem trivial, but assuming the convicted felon is allowed to travel, how would the Palace take him visiting the King ? Quite aside from the field day for [some] reportage to wonder who's the real criminal in a photosnap.

These are the interesting times were were promised by our foes of history. All happening at once, it seems.
