If someone claimed to be the Son of God today…

If someone claimed today all the things that Jesus did/said, would you believe them?

Curious about how people would respond in today’s world.

Surely even if you're religious you can objectively see the difference between literally meeting someone in real life amd 'meeting' a deity for whom there is absolutely no proof if their existence and no proof beyond what's in your own mind that you have 'met' them?

Objectively my life has changed radically since I received Him and began to follow Him 43 years ago. However my first encounter with Him, when He made Himself known to me, was three years prior to that and I was so perturbed by it and the realisation that He is real that I actually did my best to put Him out of my mind. Finally I had to give up and surrender to His Spirit’s insistence that I surrender my life to Him, which was another encounter, this time of incredible peace. That happened on November 8th, 1981. I was 22. That was the beginning of a continual relationship.

Thank you everyone for all your contributions.

I feel as though I’ve had many stories similar to the college/creche story. But have never thought it was more than my own inner voice and reasoning. The fact that it could be some higher being seems like something out of a story book.

I also think when scriptures/quotes are given it seems to give confirmation of fact to some, but to others it’s just part of the made up story.

But if God is everwhere why do you need missionaries. Surely god would be capable of making him known everywhere?

The white Christian’s have and do need missionaries to assist in the genocide of other races and to spread the terrible western diet that causing metabolic damage and killing people.

I would say create rather than stick, it’s what your here for,

The Gospel has been spread worldwide. Humans are born and die so new generations come along, missionaries keep spreading that word and reinforcing it for as long as God wants.

just because it’s been spread world wide doesn’t mean it’s the word of god.

AlteredStater · 14/12/2024 21:44

@AgileGreenSeal I do wish I could hear in the same way you do, but then you have been a Christian for a lot longer than I have and no doubt have spent much time in the scriptures and prayer. Occasionally there is 'something' that I'd say was the Holy Spirit nudging me, but nothing beyond that. Yet.

I’m sure He deals in different ways with each of us, as He chooses, since He knows best. I’m aware that when I talk about how it’s been for me I can only speak for myself, and I certainly don’t claim to have a better or richer relationship with Him than any other Christian. God knows I’m absolutely nothing without Him and the least of any believer I’ve ever met, such are my failings. Yet not I, but Christ! It’s all about Him 🙌🏻 Galatians 2:20.

As you continue with Him all that comes to my mind is keep asking, keep seeking, keep knocking. He’s a good Father and there’s so much more of Him for all of us 🙏🏻 we’re just paddling at the edge of the ocean.

When you mention something of a practical nature like that college story, what do you mean when you say he told you to sign up, and then to phone them? Do you mean you heard a voice in your head? I don’t understand. I have read similar stories but I am not sure what people mean.

i ve been told many things. I was told the place I live a voice in my head. I’ve been told what’s happening next year to me in may. I was told that the woman up the road would have blonde blue eyed baby in October and she did. Voices, images, thought.

I can’t speak for anyone but myself. I’m sure many, many Christians have had far more intense experiences than I have had.

Our relationship with God, however is not based on experiences but on faith in Christ with or without any experience whatsoever. That’s what matters.

stargazerlil · 14/12/2024 22:21

The only book that was written that has any worth to humans is the book of Ely and that one was left out of the bible because it did not fit with the Christian agenda.

AgileGreenSeal · 14/12/2024 22:24

Terrribletwos · 14/12/2024 21:45

Why doesnt he do this with everyone?

He does what He wants, I can’t answer why. I can only say what my experience has been.

Very sad that you think you’re nothing without him. Are you not an independent free thinker who can decide for herself how to live her best life.

He communicated His will to me, but not as a voice in my head, I received the communication in my spirit.

There have been times when the communication is in the form of actual words in English (which makes sense as I’m an English speaker) even with the intonation of a voice, though not audible. There have been other times when the communication has taken the form of a strong and lasting impression and also carried the ‘weight’ of His authorship.

Others have mentioned similar experiences, which they don’t attribute to God. That’s fine. I’m not them. I know to Whom I belong and I know His voice.

I have on rare occasions had input from other sources which were opposing God and instantly knew this was a different entity and therefore did not pay any heed to it or indulge it with attention.

No one can understand this relationship unless they are living it for themselves. I’m sorry, but I can’t communicate to you how utterly sublime it is to know Him. He is Life with a capital L. Nothing else is comparable.

Which is what?

The lake of fire is clearly described at several points: it's a massive pit of burning sulphur. Ancient civilisations were well familiar with volcanic activity, and sulphur's been used in chemical processes since pre-history. Toxic, molten rock spewing out of mountains and occasionally seen in ground rifts certainly looked like the acts of very punishing deities.

Ancient Middle Eastern sulphur mining would've been like the shameful practices operating today in Java, Indonesia. "The concentrated hydrogen sulphide and sulphur dioxide gases can burn a miner’s eyes and lungs and even dissolve teeth. The sulphuric lake has the pH of car battery acid, due to the sulphuric acid bubbling through it." Miners live just 30 years.

The good news is that, having been cast into a sulphur field, you'll hurt like buggery for several minutes - but not eternity. It will dissolve you.

If someone claimed to be the Son of God today…

Of course not. Jesus wasn’t the son of God either because God doesn’t exist.

Agreed.

Lovely! As I haven’t done anything wrong nothing bad is going to happen to me. It’s yet an other concept to try and control people to behave a certain way. Thankfully most of us don’t believe in such nonsense.

Well He has made the truth of Himself known to everyone, but not everyone wants to know.

He offers life to us, as a gift, to everyone but any gift must be accepted before it can be enjoyed, and so many reject this one. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Sorry but what do you mean by saying you receiving it in your spirit? Do you mean an idea in your head/thoughts that making a call that day was a good idea?

if it’s not audible then how are you hearing it? Or do you just mean not outloud.

A voice told you where you live? Not sure if there is a typo somewhere there.

If I heard a voice that wasn’t my inner thoughts speaking I’d be a bit worried? Like when you get hallucinating or something with a fever
