Oh I’m sure he doesn’t mind at all. I mean, the language of his chosen people doesn’t have upper or lower case.

'god' is a word for unnamed and unknown gods, 'God' is used for a god who/which is usually the only god, or the number one god, depending on your individual belief. People who have no religion and no god generally don't bother with the 'G'.

I’m sticking with ‘god’ as it’s correct for me.

Someone posted a link to the correct grammar around this. God is a proper noun.

The post you quoted from me was a reference to Hebrew, not English. I’m not sure anyone thinks English people are God’s chosen outside of the Far Right.

I’m not capitalising something which imo doesn’t exist.

That’s fine. Have you written to J K Rowling asking her to amend her harry potter books? I love professor dumbledore in those books.

I have say, I’m loving all the posts from people who have spent most of the threads going on about the need for objectivity, how people’s feelings shouldn’t override “truth”, all of a sudden adamant they can ignore simple rules of grammar because it’s “their truth”.

Lalupalina · 11/03/2024 08:20

The many posts insinuating Christian’s are somehow less intelligent- go and have a look, there’s plenty to choose from.

Many studies have found a positive correlation between religious conviction and cognitive performance. That's an average of course. This is not rude and nobody has attacked you personally.

Lalupalina · 11/03/2024 08:26

Do you think God minds? He knows who He is, and those who know Him, know who He is.

Why are you capitalising pronouns?

I don't see the need to capitalise any specific god, but surely pronouns are never vapid in English???

Lalupalina · 11/03/2024 08:26

*capitalised

Perhaps a good idea if you’d accept that not everyone has the same opinion as you?

I can't imagine she would give much of a toss tbh, I reckon she would move on pretty easily and shrug her shoulders if someone else wanted to capitalise any name or not 🤷🏻‍♀️

You're very hung up on the point when really it doesn't have any real effect on you. It's very much a waste of your time and energy for no purpose.

whatsitcalledwhen · 11/03/2024 08:48

And @Katypp if you're a pedant when it comes to grammar, I hope you'll be pulling up the poster who capitalises pronouns that aren't at the beginning of a sentence, just as much as you've been scolding people using god instead of God? Rather double standards if not.

CurlewKate · 11/03/2024 09:24

Can we get back to discussing substantive issues? Please?

Not really. I assume the ones capitalising pronouns are doing so out religious convention. A convention generally recognised in the West. This is entirely separate from the Capitalisation of the initial letter of proper nouns. So this is not double standards at all.

Speaking of which, were you going to highlight the points you said I’d previously failed to address. Perhaps we can start there?

Lol. Do you normally exercise control issues telling people what they can and cannot comment on. People specifically addressed points to me, I chose to answer them. Do you normally waste time and energy barging into conversations and trying to control direction when you were not part of the conversation to start with?

Oh I think they have, see the following few posts.

I would like to review those “studies” and look at how they excluded other factors, the sponsor of the studies and hypothesise “Lies, damn lies and statistics” and all that.

You sound like you're holding onto a lot of genuine anger. To quite a strange degree.

It's always odd to me when someone who claims they believe in a religion focusing on being loving and understanding speaks to others in such a snarky and angry tone.

It's a discussion forum, people aren't 'barging into a conversation' when they join in. Discussions develop, new people enter the conversation. You aren't having a natter in your living room, it's a discussion forum. Chill out a little bit and you'll probably get more out of it and have more meaningful discussions 🤷🏻‍♀️

Each to their own, but I hope you find more peace at some point and less anger.

Because I can and will continue to do so when I am talking about my Lord God Almighty and anything to do with Him. Fair enough if you don't see a need as you don't need to so for yourself.

PS are you sure you used the correct word 'vapid'? 😜

Lol. Smashing attempt at gaslighting 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣.

I don’t have a religion, so not quite sure what you’re going on about🤷‍♀️

Not angry at all. Just prefer to call out inaccuracies such as the repeated misinformation about Bruno and the English language.

Much love and light to you my friend💙

whatsitcalledwhen · 11/03/2024 10:06

@Kdtym10

It's not gaslighting to say you sound very cross when you sound very cross!

If you aren't angry then maybe worth thinking about why your posts read as if you are.

All the best 👍🏻

The many posts insinuating Christian’s are somehow less intelligent- go and have a look, there’s plenty to choose from.

The thing is this - if we are sure of who we are in Christ, it matters not what others may think of mine or my Christian Family's intelligence or lack of. If folk think I'm dumb because I'm not as educated as them, or the only sustificate I own is for swimming a width, or I cannot 'boast' a theology degree*, and it's my perceived 'lack' which makes me stupid enough to have Faith in the Living God whom they neither see, nor understand, nor believe in: it's really not my worry. To get caught up in such stuff is a waste of time ... but I recognise it's the enjoyment of many participants in message boards.

*not that having a theology degree automatically makes anyone a Christian.

Happy to. It was a long time ago though, and I can't find quotes. You could start with why you seem to think that belief in science and religious faith are on a par.

It is probably a reflection of your own unresolved anger you’re seeing. Do you want to talk about it?

Actually to fess up, I might have lied in my previous post - I do actually have a religion

Why (or why not) be Christian? Part 2

Just to be clear my perspective is seeing science and spirituality as being on a par. Basically they are two different ways of looking at the world, a world I believe is made up of physical matter and spirit.

Your question is like saying, explain why you think sight and hearing are on a par. One is great to experience music and one is great to look at pictures.

Both are necessary. There’s a quote from “The First Book of Urizen” I can’t remember it exactly off hand but it is a long the lines of “Los howled as Urizen was rent from his side” which I think says it all.

it is the Newtons sleep which defines the modern day which is leading to so many problems.

CurlewKate · 11/03/2024 10:56

@Thegreatestoftheseislove "not that having a theology degree automatically makes anyone a Christian."

I'm here to attest that this is true-my dd is has been an atheist since she was old enough to fix her head teacher with a hard stare, and has a First in Theology from a very reputable university.....

Ah. I suspect any further conversation would be fruitless.
