What actions/activities do you think are sinful?

Hi @Parker231 Thank you for your question. It not what I think is sinful, but as a disciple of Christ Jesus it's what God tells me is sinful - 1 Corinthians 6, 9-10; Proverbs 6, 16-19 and Galatians 5, 19-21 pretty much cover it.

If you asked me do I lead a sin-free life, my answer is I wish I did, but no, I don't.

To be completely sin free you would have to be in perfect unity with God! And then you would be as an extension of God - do the same as, be the same as. People would look at you and see God if you had perfect unity.

Doesn’t sound much fun! Just have a good time - you only live once.

heyhohello · 28/01/2024 19:53

And if we knew everything which was sinful (not God's will, not in unity with God) and everything which was God's will (in unity with God) then we would need to have complete knowledge of God! Who is unknowable in full.

heyhohello · 28/01/2024 19:55

@Parker231, that's my intention! I define goodness as being in unity with God. 😉

Sounds a very restrictive way to live. I prefer to think for myself.

heyhohello · 28/01/2024 19:58

Most religions have their own eschatology- why out of all the others is the Christian one correct. Sounds pretty arrogant to me.

@Kdtym10 but the topic of this thread is according to the Bible/Christianity.

@Parker231 You have made me smile. If you knew me, you'd know I'm acutely aware of only living once and believe every day should have some fun.

@Parker231, I think it's pretty exciting to be aiming for actual unity with God Almighty!

heyhohello · 28/01/2024 20:18

Interesting that you think it’s preordained Jesus will beat the Anti christ - why bother with the whole farce then?

@Kdtym10, if you go with the body of an organism analogy, defeating everything within that body which is detrimental to the health and welfare of the body keeps that body well and functioning. We have as many (it might be more) cells living in our own bodies (freely working in symbiosis) which are foreign/alien to us as we do our own cells. If we don't defeat those which are harmful and non beneficial to us we get sick. Yet those foreign/alien cells freely working in symbiosis are vital to our health.

heyhohello · 28/01/2024 20:23

And those alien cells are interdependent- like free agents really working within us with us (or against us). Interacting with us. Making us more than just ourselves. We are a whole community.

heyhohello · 28/01/2024 20:45

And if one of those little alien cells wanted to go it alone without us it might not survive. ☹️

Fetchthevet · 28/01/2024 20:58

To answer the question in the title, I worry a lot about not making it to Heaven and I feel separated from God. I feel like the sin I committed is too bad to be forgiven. I have tried to recover my faith but no longer feel close to God. In short, I don't think He wants a person like me in Heaven.

heyhohello · 28/01/2024 21:04

@Fetchthevet, have you spoken to anyone in real life about this? God is love, He loves each of us more than we can imagine.

Tbh I would speak to a psychologist regarding this thought process.

Yes it is, and one way to establish the likelihood of the truth of something is to look at the alternatives which includes other religions eschatologies.

Trying to exclude discussion of other religions is not a good look at all esp given Christianity’s history

How can you compare a path you are to one not trodden? You can ask someone else but it is not the same as experiencing it yourself.

heyhohello · 28/01/2024 21:24

@Kdtym10, well if you are healthy you know your body will defeat an overpopulation of bacteria (like Christ beating the Ani Christ) but it doesn't make the action worthless (not farcical). And the bacteria might be beneficial if keep in balance with the body as a whole.

heyhohello · 28/01/2024 21:24

Anti!

By trying out a practice. By looking into it, by asking others. By recognising the validity of other paths!

So if I had complete control over how biology works why would I set up a system where there had to be battles over bacteria? In your analogy I’m merely working with what exists.

If God is omnipotent he didn’t need up set up a system where a battle was necessary. Therefore your analogy doesn’t make sense.

Similarly Jesus didn’t need to die on the cross to meet a criteria set in the game God designed

heyhohello · 28/01/2024 21:53

@Kdtym10
What's the point of chopping and changing? If I'm on a path and it's going well I'll continue on with that route until the end. Otherwise I'll just waste time running about and not moving forward very much.

heyhohello · 28/01/2024 21:58

@Kdtym10, well we are a colony of many bacteria working together. It makes us greater, bigger than just ourselves. You might like this book:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Entangled-Life-Worlds-Change-Futures/dp/1784708275/ref=sr11_1?crid=1QV3LGGDGJ1ZF&keywords=entangled+life+by+merlin+sheldrake&qid=1706478958&sprefix=Enta%2Caps%2C106&sr=8-1

And with separate entities all working together freely in unity the whole unified unit increases!

heyhohello · 28/01/2024 22:00

Book not about bacteria specifically but about interconnection in the living world. Amazing!
