Everybody alright this morning? Or are you all half drowned and staying in bed?

Notquitegrownup · 20/07/2007 10:10

I'm here, and was just wondering the same.

Good morning DO!

CaptainDippy · 20/07/2007 10:34

I'm here! Good Morning ....

We're off on holiday tomorrow!!

A fortnight at my parent's holiday flat on the Isle of Cumbrae - so free thank goodness! Cannae wait!!

No progress as such on dh's jod. He finishes his current contract at the end of next month. there's a possibility of a freelance job 2 days a week, which would pay for food but not a mortgage and that's only 6 months too.

When he was out of work for 8 months last year, we were able to use his redundancy to live off, this time there is no redundancy as it's the end of a contract. We have savings but I'd like to hold off on using them if possible so we can get central heating.

God provided last year, so I know he will again, but we also have to listen to his guidance about being canny with what we do have.

Ds starts school on August 20th so don't really want too much upheaval around then.

In all seriousness, how much hassle do you think running a B&B might be - because that could bring in around £30-40 a week. A good idea with a young family?

Ponder, ponder. Sorry this is long and rambly.

Not panicking yet, just curious as to what the Lord's got up his sleeve for us this time

bobsmum · 20/07/2007 10:46

job, not jod !

Notquitegrownup · 20/07/2007 10:56

Hi Bobsmum

How many spare rooms have you got? I think a B & B could be great. Kids love stripping/making beds, which would be one of the main extra tasks, you can always tell people you are full if you are having a bad week, you could advertise as a Christian B & B and pull in extra trade. . . .

Just a few thoughts off the top of my head! How exciting!

DutchOma · 20/07/2007 11:02

When CD said she had been to stay with you I asked:-"Does she run a B&B then?"
My ddil had a booklet on her coffee table dealing with running a B&B. Do you want me to ask her for the title? It only came from the library.

bobsmum · 20/07/2007 11:13

I got a book from Amazon last year, which I'll dig out, but any other titles would be great!

We have one double room which is en-suite. It's a bit purple because we can't decorate it until the central heating's in, but I don't think smelly hikers and hillwalkers would mind

2 of our 6 neighbours are B&Bs too, but they get laundry businesses to do all the washing

Like the idea of it being a Xian B&B - it would still fit in with the vision for the house. Still not sure if we're meant to charge though - still doesn't sit quite right, but worth pushing doors open I guess.

katz · 20/07/2007 11:48

b & b would be a good short term way of bringing in extra cash - you can always trun bookings down if its not convient. I know my mum looked at doing this, check out your local council website for what they need from you to be able to do it too.

Prayers all round

goning to sort out card and money this weekend

MaryBS · 20/07/2007 15:24

Prayers please I have the "child from hell" round here atm. Quick post, as I have to go downstairs to make sure he doesn't deliberately break something or hurt one of mine...

MaryBS · 20/07/2007 16:27

Yes, I know I shouldn't call him the child from hell...

He started throwing things, but didn't break anything. Oh he had a major tantrum, started crying and shouting at me, and tried to leave the house to go home. All because I told him not to call DS names...

DutchOma · 20/07/2007 16:50

How difficult for you Mary, has he gone home yet? Does his mother think he is difficult or does she think people ought to be more tolerant of him. Is he a SN child?

MarsLady · 20/07/2007 16:51

Hi all.

Can you pray that the French girl who is coming to stay with me for a year gets into school? Ta muchly!

MaryBS · 20/07/2007 17:40

No he's not SN, at least he's not been diagnosed. He has a lot of rage in him. She knows what he's like but thinks talking to him to explain what he's done wrong and getting him to apologise is enough. Sometimes she'll take him away from the activity as a "punishment". Once he loses his temper though he's uncontrollable.

I used to look after him for 20 mins in the morning before school, for a short period. First week he was fine. 2nd week he started to play up. Third week, he was put on a "final warning" when he threw a shoe at me, but then the next day he tried to bite me, when I tried to point him into a corner to calm down.

He tells everyone he's going to marry DD, but she's told him that she wants to marry K. Now K. gets picked on by said child, as he regards DD as "his".

He's gone now anyway. Funnily enough I've babysat at his house on a couple of occasions, and his behaviour has been immaculate. Its his temper.

CaptainDippy · 20/07/2007 19:06

Gosh I am tired. My older 2 are vest ... erm .... testing atm. Haven't slept all day, but still bouncing off walls now....

Praying for you bobsmum - you could definitely rent the en-suite out - it is lovely!! Hope you have a fantastic time away with your lovely lot!

Praying for a school to become available for your French girl, Mars .....

{{{{hugs}}}} Mary - I think you are v.brave even having him round!! Praying for him and his "rage issues"!

Hello!!

hope all are ok in the foul weather?

Me, am doing good Thanks to the Lord , feeling ok again long may it last.
ooooooohhhh, new Harry Potter book tomorrow I am so excited! Off to the pub with dh and friends this evening. Ds is round at dsis' with our mum.

Anyone heard from Sooz yet? Hope she hasn't floated off down the Trent!!

Notquitegrownup · 20/07/2007 19:36

Evening everyone. I remember your visitor from when you were looking after him before. Poor little soul. He sounds in need of lots of loving firm boundaries. It sounds as if he gets them more from you than from home.

Definitely charge for your B & B Bobsmum, even if it is a Christian one. You can always waive the charge if you are led to do so, but most Christians would happily pay for their hols, and would just be happy to see some fellowship advertised along with the beautiful views and a cracking good breakfast, of course!

Hello CCM. Glad to hear you are in a good place today. I'm really looking forward to HP too, though struggling to imagine how it is all going to end satisfactorily. I will be soo disappointed if I'm disappointed, if you see what I mean!

Soooooozzzzzz. Where aaaarrrreeee yoooooouuuuuu?

Notquitegrownup · 20/07/2007 19:38

Whoops! Hi CD! Sorry! Wasn't deliberately ignoring you and your dds vests.

Maybe they need a trampoline to play on?!

DutchOma · 20/07/2007 21:41

We had a wonderful choir practice tonight, practising for Sunday's service but also for the Free Church Choir Union Festival in Guildford on 20th October. Anybody else going to that? Would be nice to meet up, but very difficult to arrange, there will be about 450 singers. If you don't want to sing, you can just come and listen, I think it starts at 7pm

onlyjoking9329 · 20/07/2007 22:09

Hello, can i pop in to ask for prayers/good wishes for myvery lovely & brave DH he has another brain scan on thursday afternoon. see my profile for more info.
thanks

PandaG · 21/07/2007 00:01

Hello all

just had a quick scan of the tthread, been really busy since Weds with school stuff and packing - we are off to New Wine tomorrow, and then at my P's for a week. Will pray for you all while I am away. Can you count me in for a contribution to flowers for NASWM, and I'll sort it once I get back?

I am still wobbling with my mood - ok when I am busy with people, and crap on my own, but not so bad as I was a couple of weeks ago. Just thankful that I realised before I got really in gthe depths of despair - a few years ago I gave up my job due to stress induced depression. THe panic attacks are pants, but with prayer and fab friends both in RL (thanks Worz!) and here I am just about coping. Please pray that I really hear what God wants me to at New Wine, and for dry weather there!!

Much love xx

Roseylea · 21/07/2007 08:26

Onlyjoking I will send up a prayer for your husband, and for you too. I've just read your profile - you make shapmoo! Cool! I thought about doing that a while ago but didn't get round to it... Lovely pics as well!

You are always welcome here to ask for us to pray for you.

Hi Bobsmum, ddil says this is the title of the book she had from the library, I thought it was quite nice, hope you find it useful.
