We're collecting our new (and first!) dog on Tuesday. He is a 12 week old black lab and very sweet. I would like to give him a dog name as opposed to a child's name and I quite like the idea of naming after either a character from a book or a band. I also like foods and other animals species!
Current favourites:
Jem
Raisin
Otter
Inigo (yes, I know it's a proper name but it's more unusual iykwim).

wanted to call our Lakie George.

I like Woody too.

For your dog though I like Murphy and Monty best so far

twirlaround · 05/01/2006 18:34

Boden is great
...tell dp he can shorten it to Bo, Bodie or Den
(or of course Johnnie) surely that's enough choice for anyone?

cupcakes · 05/01/2006 18:53

maybe I should just call him 'Sassy'

Alan? Malcom? Brian? Let me know if you need more suggestions.

Ours is called Billy (his mum is Tilly... - the kids named him) I would use a 2 syllable name as it is easier to call (scream...) at him and make sure it is nothing like any of the kids' names!

cupcakes · 05/01/2006 19:09

yes, I've realised I can't call him Mac as ds is Max.

Spey - know a black lab called this

bubblerock · 05/01/2006 19:24

Our cats have mainly been named after alcohol - Murphy, stella, sheridan...

Still trying to think of names though, black labs look like they deserve a strong name, what about heathcliff or a greek/Roman god?

QueSerahSerah · 05/01/2006 19:42

Yes, don't call him anything resembling your children's names - Dog is Ozzy, ds is Otto. Confuses loads of people, particularly those misguided fools that think that Otto is a good name for a dog

polly28 · 05/01/2006 19:43

Major is a good strong name for a dog.

polly28 · 05/01/2006 19:44

monty

major

and Happy...that's my dog ,but she's a bitch!
