Your details remain private, I don't want to start yet another trans thread but I thnk we can all agree that there needs to be more discussion with the people affected by the changes in law!

You do want to start yet another trans thread. If you didn't, you wouldn't have started yet another trans thread Hmm

TooManyPaws · 12/03/2018 14:25

OFFS. Not another bloody trans thread. If you clutch your pearls tight enough they might turn into diamonds.

Meanwhile the rest of the world will carry on supporting our friends who happen to be trans. And I don't give two hoots who is in the cubicle next to me when I'm pissing. I got over that pretty quickly in military accommodation.

Collidascope · 12/03/2018 14:25

Signed

MIngerDynasty · 12/03/2018 14:26

It's not a trans thread Hmm

It's a thread about a government petition regarding women's rights. HTH

But thank you for bumping Flowers

Signed. Thanks for the thread

It's asking women to be consulted, FFS. That's hardly radical.

Fugitivefrombrusstice · 12/03/2018 14:27

Would love to know exactly how you think you'll be affected by self-ID?

MIngerDynasty · 12/03/2018 14:29

And I don't give two hoots who is in the cubicle next to me when I'm pissing. I got over that pretty quickly in military accommodation.

So you did have an issue with who you were pissing next to ? Grin Your daughter might mind sharing a shower with a girl with a penis, so maybe consider her feelings or the many vulnerable women in prisons. Most of who are there for non violent offenses and have suffered DV

Signed. Thanks OP.

MIngerDynasty · 12/03/2018 14:31

There are eleventy billion threads regarding the concerns around self ID fugitive, and I know I have seen you on some of them. So I'm not sure why you need me to rehash them.

OP posts:
Fugitivefrombrusstice · 12/03/2018 14:34

Because I think if you're going to be the person who starts YET ANOTHER thread and contributes to the generally hostile atmosphere on MN, the least you can do is accept the work of defending a position that many of us consider to be prejudiced and largely indefensible. But I appreciate that stoking outrage is more satisfying than having a debate Hmm

Frequency · 12/03/2018 14:36

Would love to know exactly how you think you'll be affected by self-ID?

In all likelihood, it won't affect me. But I have daughters, one who is gay. If they committed a crime and were imprisoned for it, I don't want them to be sharing a cell with 'a lady penis', especially if that 'lady penis' has been used as a weapon against a 'lady vagina'.

I don't want my lesbian daughter to feel pressured into fucking a 'lady penis' lest she be branded transphobic and bullied online and in her social circle.

I don't want my sporting daughter to be competing against MtF transwomen who are physically larger, stronger and faster than her.

I don't want either of my daughters to end up in women's shelters, but if they do, I want to know that there won't be any 'lady penises' sharing their space when they are vulnerable and frightened.

I fully support my trans friends. Oddly, they're all against self-id.

sinceyouask · 12/03/2018 14:36

No, thank you, I would rather not sign this petition.

DalekDalekDalek · 12/03/2018 14:37

Why just consult women? Why not men too?

NoSquirrels · 12/03/2018 14:38

It's not a "trans" thread, though. It is about a petition to consult with women. This is Mumsnet - we are predominantly a collective of women. Don't sign if you think it's fine to allow the laws to change so that anyone can self-identify as anything they like - that's fine. But don't be all snippy about it.

I am supportive of trans people. I actually don't care who pisses next to me either. But I am alarmed by the idea that the law could change so that biological sex will be superceded by self-identified "gender", and that essential women's spaces/categories will become non-existent. It's not about me, but it is about the rights of women.

Would love to know exactly how you think you'll be affected by self-ID?

See above. It's not about me. But it is about vulnerable women (women's refuges, women's prisons, women's-only sessions in counselling etc etc).

I'd be very happy with gender-neutral spaces and organisations etc as long as sex-segregated spaces could exist alongside them. And I can't see what the possible objection to that could be. Whereas there are lots of extremely valid reasons why it's not a good idea to lose those "safe" spaces entirely.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 12/03/2018 14:39

How is it indefensible to ask to be consulted on the possibility of having your rights fragmented? If you don’t think self ID laws will lead to even one bloke abusing them then you’re living in a much rosier world than I am.

Signed and forwarded.

Iminthecclubnow · 12/03/2018 14:41

I honestly find it really sad that people don't care that women who have been abused/raped/beaten might be forced to share refuges with people with penises. And if self id goes through we are not even talking about transwomen who still have penises but have been 'living as a woman' (whatever that means) for years - it means any man who has declared himself a woman.

I don't get how people can just brush that off as nothing?

Never mind things like sports, prisons or just simply allowing women to state their boundaries when it comes to interacting with the opposite sex.

Truscum · 12/03/2018 14:42

My life has already been made more difficult by Self ID, and it’s not even bloody in yet. I’ve had to change how I refer to myself in order to distance myself from these abusive shits demanding lesbians accept them as women, ranting that it’s literally violence if you don’t renounce what everyone knows is undeniable truth.

My niece is very in to sport. Should I tell her now that there is no point, don’t bother training for years? Because a mediocre man can come along, call himself Shirley and beat her senseless at any contact sport? (And don’t you dare tell me that is not happening, it is, right now)

I think you’ll find most decent trans people also want this, why shouldn’t women be consulted. We live in a democracy, why can’t genuine concerns be aired and debated?!

MIngerDynasty · 12/03/2018 14:42

Why just consult women? Why not men too?

Women's groups are the one's leading the way against self ID. Men seem largely not interested due to it not affecting them. I can't actually think of any men's groups in general though, free masons maybe?

But if you start a petition asking for men's groups to be consulted, I'm sure people will sign it to.

OP posts:
Iminthecclubnow · 12/03/2018 14:42

And if you actually bothered to read, it's not another trans thread. It is a petition asking for women to be consulted on government plans to effectively end sex segregation.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 12/03/2018 14:43

And my letter (first post of the link below) shows exactly why I would be opposed to Male bodies in female spaces

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3160220-to-write-to-Women-s-Aid-and-ask-you-to-do-the-same-if-you-value-their-services

GenderApostate · 12/03/2018 14:43

Being worried about the right to privacy and dignity of Women and Girls is ‘prejudiced and indefensible’ ? Shock
Knowing that Sex offenders would use self-id to gain better access to victims is ‘prejudiced and indefensible’ ? When we know it is already happening ?

Women are a protected class in Law for very good reasons.

MIngerDynasty · 12/03/2018 14:44

I honestly find it really sad that people don't care that women who have been abused/raped/beaten might be forced to share refuges with people with penises

Not only share refuges witht hem, but actually be treated by them. Women's Aid have changed their rules which formerly requested a gender change certificate to "self Id" now, for people who with these women.
