Apologies if this has already done the circuits (I'm sure it has, but I've had a look and can't see it) but here's the link to the petition calling for a revote as less than 75% of the population voted and the margin was so tight.

AIBU to think that its perfectly reasonable to expect a revote considering that in less than 4 hours after the results, the Leave campaign backed out of some of their most significant promises?

I'm not sure...I have signed this, and on the one hand I think we should have another one because I think lots of people voted from just reading headlines and didn't research it fully, but in the other hand we are a democracy and should stick by the result because of this. So I'm split! But no, your not being unreasonable.

It's never going to happen.

It will set a precedent for future GE ect .. and future PM will not rust being outed with in days. It will also cause massive civil unrest as democracy will have just left if this ever happens. Voting will never be taken seriously again.

Yanbu. I signed this yesterday and posted on FB. DH thinks there is no way it will happen though, no matter how many signatures it gets . I'm not sure why he says that though... is it like double jeopardy?? Hope we get another referendum. I don't even think all of the out voters really meant it to happen (I know that's ridiculous but I've seen the interviews where they all say they never thought it would actually happen and how worried they are about the future ).

The leave campaign has gone to the toilet! I bet they are shitting their pants right now. I dread to think of wasting so much UK's money for disconnecting from the EU while in fact it won't resolve the issues and more likely to create more issues. Thanks for the link, will sign the petition.

I agree with your point about democracy - but a re-vote is still democratic. And if Leave is genuinely the wish of the majority of the electorate then it will simply result in another Leave result.
But hopefully this time a referendum will be more balanced, informed and less arm-wavy.

I voted remain but more on the basis of "better the Devil you know" rather than a highly opinionated, strongly researched vote - I'll admit that.
However, had I voted Leave I'd have been sick to the stomach at the sight of the prominent Leave campaigners hastily backtracking from their promises.

We shouldn't do it again. What if we don't reach the quota next time? How much money are we going to spend doing it over and over? Also there's no guarantee the electorate will access different info. In any vote there are people who don't do huge research or are swayed by misinformation. That's democracy for you.

I don't think it will happen. There's voters either side who didn't fully research the facts before making their decision. Not that facts were very forthcoming from either party. Like another poster said, this is only going to produce massive civil unrest. I for one do not want to see rioting in the streets. What if Leave win again? Or Remain wins this one? Best out of three? It's a sad day for democracy when the voters who didn't see the result they wanted demand another chance. No democracy isn't perfect, but it's a hell of a lot better than alternatives.

My Remain heart beats as hopeful as ever for a modern-day-JR-wakes-from-a-dream-miracle HOWEVER Surely, the only way that this would gain ANY credibility (and even then, why should it over rule a democratic result?) is if the number of signatures surpass those that voted Brexit.

A re-vote is still taking a fair account of public opinion.
If people were so secure in believing the majority of the electorate wished to leave the EU than there is no reason to be against a 2nd referendum - the result would be the same.

I absolutely think that if there was another vote held tomorrow that there would be a totally different result.

Completely agree with the op that if everyone genuinely believed in what they voted for the first time then the outcome would be the same but I truly believe a hell of a lot of people have woken up and thought what on earth have I done.

It's a waste of time! Accept the result and move forward. I'm far from happy about leaving but I'm not a bad loser either!

Yes, I did. It was that or not voting at all as I felt it was impossible to wade through the propaganda and fear-mongering that was being let loose on both sides. I'm not a politician nor an economist, I do not pretend to have the level of insight and understanding to make an extremely informed vote. Subsequently I voted on remaining in a situation that we can predict and that we understand, rather than throwing caution to the wind and taking a huge, unprecedented gamble which has no predictability and research has suggested is more likely to fail than not.

I cannot believe what I am reading on this forum.
