Ding, ding, round 3 of the highly entertaining collection of misspellings, misuse and general bastardisation of language. The floor is youre’s x

D’you know, I came across this in a Banks novel by Peter Robinson, one of my favourite authors. I can’t tell you how disappointed I was.
Anyway, today’s offering is from a poster who didn’t want to “exasterbate” the situation. I occasionally see “exacerbate” and “exasperate” mixed up, but this is a new one on me.

Blame the editor/publisher😆 I’ve come across a few errors in novels over the years. And songs. I’m still disappointed with Kate Bush for the line ‘She couldn’t have made a worst move’ in Babooshka.

I was watching a TV show last night and a police officer said they'd been a burglery...god it annoyed me!
So much so that it's the first time posting on this board 😂

'the last slithers of bar soap'

At least it makes sense with soap, unlike (I hope!) cake.😂

She saves them in her loofer glove apparently. Smile

AlbieJiggered · 10/04/2026 14:28

I saw one of those clips with AI-generated subtitles - Insects in the City.

I saw the ‘slithers’ but missed the loofer!

AlbieJiggered · 10/04/2026 16:59

I wondered if it was a glove for the loo. Smile

From a comment in the Times - “I’m against rouge landlords but they are few and far between.” Perhaps red in the face….

I've just seen Geese instead of Jeez.

CrocusesFlowering · 12/04/2026 16:18

Charles is in his way to ‘cow toe’ to Donald Trump.

AlbieJiggered · 12/04/2026 16:31

Cows don't have toes.Smile

A poster today - “her teenager seemed more savvy than she was, which would feel gauling”. No doubt said teenager was Asterix’s friend.

Think what’s more ai full proof.

Wouldn’t every fule no this?

And, just like that, 'party (with acial friends)' has just appeared.

However, I do feel a bit of a heel as this must surely be a typo and not intended - something I have done many times myself.

Ah, you’re quite correct. It was acial that I saw x

I am vaguely disappointed that there wasn't really 'actil' as well. However I suppose relief is more appropriate that both firsts hadn't actually occurred.

In typing this, I had to look up and check the spelling of two words - you can probably guess which - despite using them habitually.

Whosthetabbynow · 14/04/2026 16:07

‘Vaguely’ and ‘occurred’ ? Always tricky in my opinion x

You're right. If it wasn't for autocorrect (in turn often corrected by me when it gets context wrong) and the dictionary, my spelling would be acially terrible.

At Edinburgh Southern hustings, SNP candidate
@DeidreBrock
has just said that reading, writing, and arithmetic is not something she subscribes to in education, because modern kids have calculators. This has understandably caused consternation in the audience.

AlbieJiggered · 15/04/2026 10:37

How would a calculator be useful for reading and writing? Do children have calculators these days?

Tallisker · 15/04/2026 10:46

You still have to know how to do the sum,
ie know the order of buttons to press.
