Ding, ding, round 3 of the highly entertaining collection of misspellings, misuse and general bastardisation of language. The floor is youre’s x

I assumed the school meant parents in general= all the parents ie Parents’

ErrolTheDragon · 07/04/2026 18:12

And now dare I broach a misspelling on the Style&Beauty board which is annoying me?
While it may now be listed in dictionaries as an alternative spelling of ‘brooch’, it’s a different word with several other meanings so it seems wrong to overload it still more.

Whosthetabbynow · 07/04/2026 18:28

Yes, if it’s an item of jewellery it’s a brooch.

Why do some say antisemetic, instead of anti semitic? Broadcasters and newsreaders are guilty of this too!

I've always noticed that I sound like I'm saying anti-Semetic, even though I know Semite has an 'i' and that's what I'm pronouncing. It just sounds that way when spoken quickly. Those two vowel syllables in Semite and Semitic are pronounced differently. I suppose some people hear it thus and assume it's spelt 'Semetic' too.

It’s an employer, not a school, but yes, either Parents’ Week or Parent’s Week would work.

Maybe they ran out because apostrophe’s had been used up in all the wrong place’s?

That seem’s likely

'blardy blah'....

IkeaPoang · 09/04/2026 08:17

"It's glutenous to be piling a plate high and then wasting the food"

Maybe if you pile your plate with just bread!

LightandBreezy · 09/04/2026 13:13

Saw this on a thread on the holidays board - quite a lot to unpick from one sentence. "I certainly wasn't trying to sleight the cotswolds, for some what I wrote above is the drawer and I do love how tidy they are, pleasant, genuinely picturequesque."

10/10 for illegible word salad. I have just seen someone asking for cream recommendations for ‘creepy skin’. Wooooo! 🧙

AlbieJiggered · 09/04/2026 14:04

I saw that one - probably autocorrected crepey (sp?).

LightandBreezy · 09/04/2026 14:24

A little bit more from the Cotswolds thread - same poster, no punctuation or capital letters to aid comprehension though.
"I have had gorgeous may walks in bibury for example with no tourists and cow parsley frothing in the verges, bliss."
Thank goodness mad tourist disease hasn't hit Bibury yet. Whether Cow parsley can be frothing instead of just frothy is also questionable.

Allseeingallknowing · 09/04/2026 14:41

Seen on line, an overweight woman said she had modules of fat

AlbieJiggered · 09/04/2026 15:02

I've seen 'infack' on a thread today.

I think the the description of cow parsley as ‘frothing’ along the verges is fine - the way the plant grows and overspills and moves in the wind is active and ‘frothing’ conveys this more than ‘frothy’.
Perhaps the word has become tainted in your mind by people using it as a derogatory term for ‘other women mildly expressing a contrary opinion’?Grin

Just seen on another thread 'craycray ' I think the poster meant crazy. What fresh hell is this?

That’s not fresh, it’s been around for quite a long time. I’m not sure where it came from though, it’s rather unpleasant.

Ah I see. It was the first time I've seen it.With luck it'll be the last !

From the thread about the decline in standards of first class air travel:

It was full of sofas and coffee tables with bowels of crisps and peanuts.

Funnywonder · 10/04/2026 09:00

I have noticed a few times recently that people are apparently ‘flaunting’ the rules. Bloody show offs🤣🤣

CinnamonSweet73 · 10/04/2026 09:16

On an Instagram post this morning - 'I'm still a working progress'

D’you know, I came across this in a Banks novel by Peter Robinson, one of my favourite authors. I can’t tell you how disappointed I was.
Anyway, today’s offering is from a poster who didn’t want to “exasterbate” the situation. I occasionally see “exacerbate” and “exasperate” mixed up, but this is a new one on me.

From what I’ve seen of people not washing their hands after using the loo, that’s about right!
