OK, I know it's a really easy mistake to make. It's just that every time I read this - more and more frequently - my mind conjures something like this. Enjoy!

A Viscous Attack 🤣

TheDevilWearPrimarni · 13/07/2025 16:20

Saw a thread on MN today mentioned the Magna Carter.

@TheDevilWearPrimarni , I was at school with her. I'm surprised she didn't change her name by deed pole.

TheaBrandt1 · 13/07/2025 21:05

I would reply to this thread but don’t want to set a president.

Just seen on another thread - love it! Picturing Trump frozen in plaster of Paris.

Chersfrozenface · 14/07/2025 09:02

The BBC at it again yesterday. He captain of a sail training ship flauts one of the oldest naval traditions.

There isn't a verb 'to flaut', but if there were, wouldn't involve a bosun's whistle when on board a ship?

Maybe he was flaunting it? You know, showing off?

I suspect the author vaguely knew that 'flaunt' wasn't right and thought "I know, it's the one without the n".

But she can't even have used a spell checker - my checkers all flag up 'flauts'.

Cattery · 14/07/2025 10:54

It’s flout isn’t it?? I’m second-guessing myself now 🤣

It is indeed 'flout'. And has since been corrected, undoubtedly after emails from readers.

Cattery · 14/07/2025 11:17

@Chersfrozenface 🙌

ACatAsleepInYourHat · 14/07/2025 12:17

There’s a current thread in AIBU in which a poster describes her overly precise husband as a “self confessed pendant”.

Pedant5corner · 14/07/2025 12:33

Is he a swinger or just hanging on?

thehorsesareallidiots · 14/07/2025 12:43

Parts of him are undoubtedly pendulant.

Now you're just being pendantic...

Surely a flautist flauts?

Gonksmum · 16/07/2025 14:14

I saw something described as " a quiet taste" which took me a sec to work out.

Pedant5corner · 16/07/2025 15:16

It sounds similar but doesn't make much sense. All intensive purposes is another one.

butterpuffed · 16/07/2025 17:40

A post on my local NextDoor website said that Parent and Child parking spaces are just Curtsy spaces and anyone can use them.

I would have loved to reply that they're not and she would just have to bough down and accept it 😉

Pedant5corner · 16/07/2025 17:46

Shirley you mean except it.

Cattery · 16/07/2025 18:17

Expect it?
