GENERAL CHAT THREAD FOR CLOTH NAPPY USERS - PART 3

1000 replies

BigBadMouseInHauntedHouse · 30/10/2008 19:29

(Incredibly childish) BBM sneakily makes part 3 thread and places Sandy's flag at the top for a second time.

(Flag is made from organic cotton and has been dry pailed and washed at 40C)

could someone email/msn BBM? Haven't heard from her (my laptop died which has my address book)

Debs75 · 04/11/2008 21:13

re: reusable wipes. Do you use them like cotton wool i.e. dip in warm water or do you make up a lotion? am sure i read something about tea??

How do you keep the nappy bucket from smelling?

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 04/11/2008 21:21

I am new to this debs75 so shouldnt be giving advice, but I have put a few drops of tee tree in my bucket (only 3 wet nappies in it though) I have yet to experience the dirty ones.

I think I read something about chamomile tea too but cant remember what for.

Annvan I know what you mean about not seeing too often

Debs - check out the nappy lady website if you want a lotion - it does involve chamomile tea though, can't remember whole recipe. But some people just use warm water like cotton wool (really your choice which you do)I'm considering using washable wipes, sick of bits of dirty cotton wool everywhere.

4andnotout · 04/11/2008 22:01

Debs75 To stop my buckets smelling i put a sanitary towel in the lid with a few drops of either tea tree or lavender oil, and i soak my wipes in a solution of oil oil, water, baby shampoo mixed up then wring them o0ut and keep in a plastic dispenser hth

Debs75 · 04/11/2008 22:58

Thanks will check out the nappy lady, I want something as natural as poss as I have really bad excema and baby wipes sometimes sting me.

Essie3 · 04/11/2008 23:06

Yup, chamomile tea! I once started a thread on wipes solution.

Debs you have two options. Use them like cotton wool, or put them in a mixture in a tupperware. Or a third - use a spray bottle.

My mixture is chamomile tea, sometimes with some lavender oil. But here are some more: mumsnet thread and here are some I couldn't do a link to:

  1. Simple Solution
    2 Tbs Organic Baby Wash
    1 Tbs Baby Oil
    470ml water

  2. Honey and Chamomile
    1 Chamomile tea bag
    1 Tsp honey
    240ml boiling water

  3. Tea-tree and Lavender
    1 Tbs olive oil
    1 Tbs Lavender baby wash
    4 drops tea tree oil
    700ml water
I'm sure I saw loads on the nappy lady once, but can't find it now.

Essie3 · 04/11/2008 23:12

Ah, I'm not imagining the nappy lady then!
Debs at parentcraft we were told that wipes have alcohol in, and that's what stings. Nasty nasty!
I got all excited in my googling because I found references to a foaming cleanser thing at Lidl. But that seems to have alcohol in.

Just got to use mine. Heard a really strange noise on the baby monitor. It was DS filling his nappy very loudly and laughing all the while. It was everywhere.
Wipes worked well but they were a bit too wet.

Essie3 · 04/11/2008 23:13

Another question - how many wipes do people have/get through?

4andnotout · 05/11/2008 08:39

I have probably about 60 wipes if not more, we was every other day, but i am using them on 2 bums!

babyjjbaby · 05/11/2008 10:21

i think i am gonn hav eto tumble dry the nappies when i wash them can't get anything dry on the airer atm

4andnotout · 05/11/2008 10:49

Mine were about 75% dry after a night on the airer so i had to put them in the tumbler for 15 minutes. I havent got room to keep the airer up all day as it is always in the way!

babyjjbaby · 05/11/2008 10:56

oh i know i hate having the airer up and most of the time i have to have 2 up drives me mad i wished i could have one of them things what goes on the ceiling

wastingmyeducation · 05/11/2008 11:04

I've got four airers now! There's only the three of us as well. Those ceiling ones don't actually hold much unfortunately.

xx

babyjjbaby · 05/11/2008 11:09

thanks lollipop the nappy has arrive dit is luvly when do u want it back if it sits nice i can see my self getting some luv ur wrap so pretty

lollipopmother · 05/11/2008 12:32

BabyJ You can have it for a couple of weeks to get a good feel for it, Elizabeth is still in her XS Sandy's and I have 17 smalls anyway!! You will undoubtedly end up with some stains but don't worry too much about it, I can't get them out of anything here at the moment. The nappy is brand new but been pre-washed (but not by me) so no idea how absorbent it is. The insert is bamboo and only been washed a couple of times too so pos not massively absorbent yet.

For whoever was asking about wiping - I wipe at every change. I use my own solution of camomile tea, a drop of tea-tree and a couple of drops of orange essential oils, but i've just found some fruity tea-bags so am using them instead of the orange oils. I'd quite like to add something for a moisturising effect but no idea what atm.

babyjjbaby · 05/11/2008 12:56
