GENERAL CHAT THREAD FOR CLOTH NAPPY USERS - PART 3

1000 replies

BigBadMouseInHauntedHouse · 30/10/2008 19:29

(Incredibly childish) BBM sneakily makes part 3 thread and places Sandy's flag at the top for a second time.

(Flag is made from organic cotton and has been dry pailed and washed at 40C)

feel very guilty as he had quite red marks where wrap had been on too tight.

not that he showed any discomfort.

babyjjbaby · 04/11/2008 13:24

u change bout every 3 hours what wraps are u using sometime sthey do get red marks but not often

Essie3 · 04/11/2008 13:25

No, don't worry baby. (!) If you've used disposables, it is shocking how wet cloth are. As long as they're not leaking out, you'll be fine.
If you're using fleece liners, he should be dry to the touch which is ok.
I use bamboo, and sometimes DS's skin is damp to the touch, but that's fine - he doesn't get sore or anything.
If your DS has sensitive skin, fleece liners are the answer. You'll need to watch the situation and see how it goes. Urine on the skin isn't dangerous (unless you're doing days in 1 urine soaked nappy!) - it might cause sensitivity, but may not. If there's any rash or broken skin or anything there, change more often because urine on that is bad. So no need to change the minute you feel wetness in the nappy.

My DS has 5 nappies per day. 1 in the morning, 1 around 11ish, 1 early afternoon, 1 late afternoon and 1 for bed (overnight - it does 12 hours!). It's extra if he poos. He has tough skin (like me!) and no sensitivity.

Good question, though - curious whether I'm changing him often enough.

that sound sbout right essie i can remeber using them for the first time i was but u get used to it

Essie3 · 04/11/2008 13:28

Oh, babyjjbaby, my 5 nappies work out at every 3 hours so I'm not too slummy!

And no1putsbaby it's quite hard at the start to get the wrap right. Too loose = leaks, too tight = marks. You'll get there! My DS has red pressure marks sometimes, but not red pinching marks IYKWIM!

babyjjbaby · 04/11/2008 13:29

hehe lol

babyjjbaby · 04/11/2008 13:30

actually talking bout wraps i find the cotton bottoms ones are horrible rough and stiff don't like them at all

MrsCreosote · 04/11/2008 14:00

Thanks babyjbaby, I will try the bambino mio prefolds to see what they're like, I think they're not meant to be that good but we have been given a load of them. I've only got one nippa but I guess one is enough!
Presumably the motherease wraps will work with them?

Has anyone else used the disana tie-ons? We were given these for last baby and only used them occasionally, but they look good for a newborn and they dry quickly. Does anyone know what wrap goes best with them? Or a good cloth nappy website I can refer to?

babyjjbaby · 04/11/2008 14:02

yeh i use mothereas ewrpa with prefolds but find them baggy

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 04/11/2008 14:34

Ah thanks for advice.
I am determined to get it right and stick to it.
Not to prove to dh its a good idea, honest

The wrap is what came with the little lamb nappy,so dont know what type.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 04/11/2008 14:36

Also what are fleece liners?
Are they what you would use instead of disp/flush liners or as well as?

What nappy will I need at night then if this one was soaked in 5 minutes. Surely I cant leave him like that all night.

babyjjbaby · 04/11/2008 14:45

flece liners u use on there own and it keeps the wetness away from hi sbum

AnnVan · 04/11/2008 15:19

Hi all! bet you'd forgotten me - haven't had time to come on much what with hungry baby, and DP hogging the computer!

have a question - I have some staining on some of my nappies, and with rain almost constant can't dry outside for uv bleaching effect. Any tips for getting rid of stains??

no1 good to see you here!

babyjjbaby · 04/11/2008 15:42

hmm not sure bout stains annvann there is not a drop of sun in gloucester

lollipopmother · 04/11/2008 15:43

No1 All you need is some anti-pil fleece cut into rectangles and you have fleece liners! Or you can cut them like this

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 04/11/2008 15:45

Ok thanks, Was going to use disp liners but I suppose if I am washing the nappy wont hurt towash a liner too will it.

Will have a look for some fleece then and make some.

lollipopmother · 04/11/2008 15:45

*I'm struggling to get stains out too now, even with nappy right next to the window. I wonder whether putting them under a sunbed would help!!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 04/11/2008 17:11

hi all, glad to see you back annvan. most of my sandy's are a bit stained too, not that that's a problem really, but I like seeing them all nice and soft and stainless, but horrible down here in Surrey too....

ok, now, you've all taked about wipes. been on cotton wool so far and just using up a free pack of wipes, which I detest cos they just come apart... anyway, are fleece, flannelette or terry better? maybe I should do them "double sided", but dd's not letting me do much these days, so the sewing machine is just sitting there looking at me, together with the washing, and the hoovering, and everything else... finally sat down with a cup o tea dd glued to my lap...

Essie3 · 04/11/2008 19:10

Who's this AnnVan girl then?

With stains, wasn't it on here that I read about the UV being the stuff that gets rid of stains, and so a UV lamp would do??? Or did I dream this?

Question on wipes (sure nobody is after a separate thread??).

Do you wipe at every change? Or just pooey ones? I don't wipe at every change. [slut-of-a-mother emoticon] Should I?

Sunflower I find the muslins to be quite useful - kind of grainy for getting rid of poo.

And babyinthecorner (like my experimentation with your name btw?) once you've been on this thread for, ooh, 5 mins, you'll know that I'm a one trick pony - I only recommend pop-ins for everything. They're good at night, though. (SpongeBrainBigPants, you convinced yet? Gonna try a pop-in? You know you want to!)

spongebrainbigpants · 04/11/2008 19:50

Lol Essie!!

I'm using bumgenius but don't think they're going to be reliable enough at night.

My plan is going to be BG for day time and flexitots for night time and long trips in the car.

What do you think?

Essie3 · 04/11/2008 19:55

I just spied a bumgenius thread, Sponge. Have a look at that?
Other than pop-ins can't really tell you much. I have used other nappies but they've been discontinued!

AnnVan · 04/11/2008 20:14

Ditto with foul weather here in Kent as well .
TBH I'm not THAT fussed about the stains (although naturally do prefer the unstained look) but DP is REALLY fussing about it.
Boy really does explosive poos - He was all nekked in DP's arms about to be bathed one day last week, and suddenly did an enormous poo that sprayed over a foot! Most of it (strangley) landed in the basin, but some got on DP's trousers and his brand new trainers. And some on the floor as well. My mum was there and she nearly wet herself laughing. Was nice having parents down from Scotland for a visit, and they got to meet the little man!
Oh and some bad news in my camp is that my sisters baby (6 days older than seb) is nearly completely deaf in both ears.
Anyhoo, just thought I'd update you all, seeing as I've been incommunicado for a while

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 04/11/2008 20:14

lol essie3

Hi annvan
What are pop ins,I am willing to try any that anyone recommends.
This nappy thing is just endless. Like it though

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 04/11/2008 20:16

x post annvan hello again
Have your parents gone home now?

AnnVan · 04/11/2008 21:06

Hey! yes, parents went home on Sunday. Was lovely to have them here, but it's a good thing I don't see them often (means when I DO see them, we're to happy to see each other to get on each other's nerves) Good to see a another August 08 lady on here. Should try and get Oops on here sometime!
