GENERAL CHAT THREAD FOR CLOTH NAPPY USERS - PART 3

1000 replies

BigBadMouseInHauntedHouse · 30/10/2008 19:29

(Incredibly childish) BBM sneakily makes part 3 thread and places Sandy's flag at the top for a second time.

(Flag is made from organic cotton and has been dry pailed and washed at 40C)

Essie3 · 05/11/2008 17:18

Oh, Daisy, so gorgeous! Can't wait to hear the tale, names, weight etc!

LackaDAISYcal · 05/11/2008 17:29

all the gory details here

Debs75 · 05/11/2008 20:20

Thanks for the info on wipes. Robyn just poos twice a week and it is real sloppy, and the fuss she makes doing it means she is only left long enough for me to get the nappy ready so it isn't drying on her. Will use them but prob use the spray bottle method.

She did do her 1st poo in her ll today, at my auntys, and had forgotten wipes and cotton wool. Could of held her under the rain.(only joking) she won't go for a few days now.

Her bum looks really massive in ll's, to be honest it put me off a bit as she is really small. Have to sort out clothes that are ll size or dispo size.

Is it best to use a barrier cream. I haven't used one since dd1 was tiny and still don't use any on ds but he does have a cream phobia.

babyjjbaby · 05/11/2008 20:26

i don't use cream unless he has a rash and make sure u use a liner with cream

lollipopmother · 05/11/2008 21:37

Deb - I have tried various brands of nappy now and have decided on Sandy's, Lovables and Wonderoos because I find them all to be slim fitting, I ditched Tots Bots and Quick Flips. I have two Fluffles that look so gorgeous but I can't be arsed to even try putting her in them because I can see that they are majorly bulky and I don't see the point.

I am really starting to get the hump with my Bumhuggers, every time she poos it comes straight out of the leg, I can see when I do them up that the legs aren't tight enough but I can't do them tighter because it's already tight enough on her tummy. I don't understand why nappies are made with joint buttons, it just doesn't make sense. I've not had a single leak with the Sandy's, and only one with the Lovables (operator error!!). I really want to like the Bumhugger because it's so absorbent and because I can't think of another nappy to use at night that is so slimline.

Out of interest, anyone using Wonderoos on the smallest setting, can you get the big Wonderful insert in? I can't make it fit , but I assume this is what makes it a night nappy??

Also - on pocket nappies, if you have a DD do you do anything with the insert such as fold it over? I think for boys you're supposed to fold it to the front, but what about girls? (I'm thinking Bumhugger inserts when I'm asking this).

I don't have any BBM contact details, maybe she just hasn't had much time to post about nappies (surely not possible!), I hope one of her LOs hasn't taken a tumble again.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 05/11/2008 22:41

lollipop - Maia's asleep with the bumhugger (wished I kept the xs airflow for it, had to put a tot bots fleece wrap size 0 as the small airflow just felt too big the nappy is so small!). I understand what you mean about the legs, it took me a while to decide which settings to use... actually, hope haven't done the waist too tight, but as you said, the legs were't tight enough (and she's slowly building her thighs!)- Sandy's waist and legs settings are independent, but not on the bumhuggers, so why bother putting 2 rows... and it is a pity, because it's so slim - thinking of trying day time ones for the next size, and then she'll be on solids so poo shouldn't leak as much. but she normally doesn't poo at night so should be ok.

I've tried putting the large insert in the wonderoo, but it just doesn't fit with the smallest setting, so at night I use the small insert plus a sandy's booster or a microfibre cloth (from Tesco) and that seems to be enough, though not as slim as the bumhugger. Waiting to see how much slimmer the hemp wonderoos are.

Oh, used the lovable this afternoon*. I really like it because I love nippas as I can get a really good fit. Might order a couple (not that I really need anomore nappies, but if we go visiting PILs or parents, will nee s.thing quick drying, as I only have bamboo, a part from the one wonderoo!) but thinking of trying making my own, looks simple enough, and can make 2 inserts out of a 89p pack of micro cloths from Tesco's, plus I found diddy diaper's pattern on web, which is basically a "closed" lovable... just need to find the time...

babyjjbaby · 05/11/2008 22:45

i want a whale print motherease wrap and a wet bag so i can use most o fmy nappies b4 washing them i have got a luvly drawstring bag and use taht aswell as bucket but want another one need some boosters and just got some more fleece liners aswell

Essie3 · 05/11/2008 23:28

lollipop I think with the pop-in you're supposed to fold the booster up for a boy. But bollocks to that, it was too fiddly and I've never bothered.

Someone tell me about barrier cream - where do you put it exactly? I know it's really stupid but someone who wants me to review nappies and eco stuff asked whether I use a barrier cream and I waffled.
So, up the bum crack only? (Sorry, 'bum crack' sounds so dirty but I can't think of a nicer term!) Bum crack and creases? All over like a moisturiser?

rusmum · 06/11/2008 07:38

i dont use any cream unless she has rednedd ( which she only had once on hols when we used dispos!!). in which case i use sudacrem

Otherwise wash, dry, nappy!"!!!!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 06/11/2008 09:18

essie - same here, only use it when we have rash, and only where it's red (DP though uses it all the time - not on himself, on DD I mean )

rusmum · 06/11/2008 11:47

babyjjbaby · 06/11/2008 13:39

ok thanks

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 06/11/2008 13:41

so proud of myself... managed to get dd to sleep on a cushion on the table while I made a lovable!!! ok, first ever thing I made since i was little, used old towel and fleece remnants, couldn't get equal stretch on leg elastics, but it'll do the job!! sure with some practice i'll manage to make s.thing presentable...

babyjjbaby · 06/11/2008 15:20

thats good i am no good at making anything lol

rusmum · 06/11/2008 16:32

SUN pic of loveable please.. how you do it???

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 06/11/2008 16:49

stitching is a bit embarassing... was in a hurry and just wanted it done... will try take a picture later anyway. I wanted to try making a pocket one like the wonderoo, but didn't want to use velcro and never fitted poppers or used PUL... and the lovable is really such a simple idea. will buy one in each size for reference, but I basically just traced it on paper and checked where the elastics started, and stuffed it with a bmicrofibre cloth (3 layers in original) I'm sure if you're handy you'll do a better job - I've also found a diddy diaper pattern (basically a closed lovable) here, though couldn't be bother looking at it cos I didn't have space on the table for the laptop as well as sewing machine and dd! already ordered some better fleece, now need to find some microfibre fabric... wish mum was here, she'd probably make 10 in an hour

babyjjbaby · 06/11/2008 16:55

where do u get the fabric from

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 06/11/2008 17:10

could only find micro fibre fabric from b eco site, but wanted s.thing cheaper... for experiment used left overs from a £1.59 ikea fleece blanket mum used to make me a sling and i used for liners and old towel for the outer. now need to make a nappy for baby elvis (ds's doll ). ordered some anti pil pink fleece from ebay
