How do you shower with a baby?

My DD is 9 months, I used to shower when she went down for her naps when she was newborn as she would nap for 3/4 hours. I'm not a single parent but DP works until 9:30pm. My DD naps half an hour max. I can't leave her in her bouncer unattended. How am I supposed to wash my hair? Please give me tips on what you do/did

At that age I think I was showering before DH went to work, when younger I did the bouncer thing but I don't think mine were still using it at that age (and mine were immobile potatoes). The toys in the cot thing works too.

Shower fast.

Put baby in a pack n play or tied securely I to the high chair in the bathroom.

Shower fast - do your hair first, add conditioner, clip hair up, let conditioner soak in while you wash the rest of you, then rinse it out. Fifteen minutes should easily do it.

I used to put DD in her cot with a load of toys

Surely you don’t need a 30 minute shower every day? Do quick ones during baby’s 30 minute nap and then a longer hair washing shower 2-3 times a week after DH gets home from work and/or at the weekend. Or reliant on baby being a reliable sleeper with a predictable wake time but of they are you could set an alarm to get up before them. Mine was walking at 9 months so wouldn’t have stood for being contained in a bouncer and attempting to have them loose in the bathroom with me would have probably resulted in them emptying all the products out of cupboards- so it was essential I found time by myself!

My baby is too big for a bouncer at 9 months (he sits up and reaches forwards and tips himself out!) So he now goes in his cot with a few toys and I leave the bathroom door open - I can see him from there.
I have the quickest shower ever and put on clothes I’ve laid out the night before. I wash my hair twice a week and in the evening when DH can watch him.

Really? No my DD is still rather small for her age, she's only just gone into 3/6 months clothes 🙈

No I suppose you're right I include hair drying time too but she could be there with me whilst I do that

In the cot with some toys or in the bouncer/jumpraroo in the bathroom where she could see me

I have a tiny bathroom, her bouncer won't fit in there unfortunately, her walker would but that's more trouble than it's worth

Surely if he works until 9:30 he’s not out of the house at 7:30am like a lot of husbands? So shower in the morning.

No he leaves at 6:30 unfortunately

I just put her in the bouncer in the bathroom with me.

I used to do that and when she could crawl she crawles around the floor while I was on the cubicle. She once pinned me in it in the way of the door. I didn't dare push it incase I hurt her.

She is 17 now.

PumpkinSpicedLatte · 25/01/2025 19:51

I used to shower with her in the shower with me. She’d just sit there 🤷🏼‍♀️ not sure if you’ve tried that? If not, do you have a stair gate so she can crawl around safely?

arethereanyleftatall · 25/01/2025 19:22

We have quite a large shower cubicle and if memory serves she sometimes came in with me and sat on the floor playing in the spray.

Oh she would love that but she has very bad eczema so I would have to change all of my shower products to hers - not a bad idea though hers are so moisturising!

You will lot harm your baby by placing them in a bouncer in the bathroom while you shower. Or alternatively you could put them in their crib with the monitor in the bathroom.

SarahAndQuack · 25/01/2025 19:51

Baby in the bouncer, but I also vote for baths with a baby. Does depend on the baby, but mine never 'did' anything in the water and she was a water baby, so she'd sit against my feet and it was really nice. I'd wash my hair first then hoick her out of the bouncer after the bath was a bit cooler, and it meant I could get a decent-length soak (I am a bath addict).

SlowSeasons · 25/01/2025 19:52

Mine just play on the floor, but often I just shower before bed x

I put the highchair in the bathroom while I shower

That's genius I never thought of her high hair

I am a single parent - tried to aim for a nap time but if she was awake, I brought the bouncer chair into the door of the bathroom and gave her something to play with.

Once was cruising / walking she took it upon herself to harass me as I showered and throw bath toys at me!

Jk987 · 25/01/2025 19:52

Keep her in the cot or on a towel on the floor with toys. No need to lose precious sleep by getting up before her!

mashingwachine · 25/01/2025 19:52

Surely you could shower in half an hour?

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 25/01/2025 19:53

Just in their cot. I mean, a shower takes what 5 or 6 minutes?

Get in, shampoo hair, rinse, condition hair, wash and shave, rinse conditioner, get out.

Your child would survive that length of time. Alternatively shower once your child has gone to bed.

Jk987 · 25/01/2025 19:55

'No he leaves at 6:30 unfortunately'

What job does he do that involves 06:30 - 21:30 shifts?

He must get days off?

Does she fit in a baby bath? Ee have our shower over our bath and for a while i had my baby in the baby bath, which sat in the bath, while I showered so they product didn't go on him. Had to stop when he could climb out.

jannier · 25/01/2025 19:56

In her cot with a few toys what's going to happen a few minutes of crying at worst?

holdmydrinks · 25/01/2025 19:57

Bouncer or high chair when they're older. How big is your bouncer if the high chair will fit in but the bouncer won't? Would you have more space if you didn't shut the door?

GivingUpFinally · 25/01/2025 19:57

Yourfootisinmysirachamayo · 25/01/2025 19:20

I just put her in the bouncer in the bathroom with me.

This is exactly what I used to do and the sound the shower would make dc sleep for longer! I ended up having 45 mins showers. It was bliss
