How do you shower with a baby?

My DD is 9 months, I used to shower when she went down for her naps when she was newborn as she would nap for 3/4 hours. I'm not a single parent but DP works until 9:30pm. My DD naps half an hour max. I can't leave her in her bouncer unattended. How am I supposed to wash my hair? Please give me tips on what you do/did

Really? No my DD is still rather small for her age, she's only just gone into 3/6 months clothes 🙈

It's not the size if she can sit she can tip it.

jolies1 · 25/01/2025 19:58

Mine is 10 mo.

Shower when he naps in cot if I want peace.

Shower while he plays on bathroom floor if I need to get ready quickly (not peaceful but I manage).

Shower with him sitting on the floor of the shower with me if I have nothing planned - he loves it.

Bouncer on bathroom floor. Or car seat carrier if she was asleep.

Used to play peek-a-boo with the shower curtain.

Short shower if she was whining - longer one if she was happy or asleep.

I don't have a big bathroom either, I used to shower with the door open and put her bouncer at the door so she could see me

Sugargliderwombat · 25/01/2025 20:20

In the bath with me while I shower - we still do the same now at 2 😂 he loves it and I hate sitting there supervising so kill two birds in with one stone. I used to have him in his little baby bath at the end of the bath while I showered when he was very small.

This is exactly what I used to do and the sound the shower would make dc sleep for longer! I ended up having 45 mins showers. It was bliss

Same! I like to think it reminds her of all the long showers I took when pregnant haha

DD was a little bit older when we adopted her. She loved her tricycle and was happy to sit on it while I had a quick shower. The bathroom was tiny so I left the bathroom door open so that I could see her just outside the door. I got undressed into a towel, turned the shower on to warm up, strapped her onto her tricycle, got into the shower, got out of shower, wrapped in towel, took her off the tricycle (if she wanted), got dressed/dried hair. A biscuit could help, but there was always the chance that I would have to get out of the shower if she dropped it.

Ime put them in a bouncer in the bathroom with you and let them scream at you while you wash. Sorry I have no wisdom!

Bouncer or high chair when they're older. How big is your bouncer if the high chair will fit in but the bouncer won't? Would you have more space if you didn't shut the door?

Oh it's huge all them sticky up bits make it hard to just fit nicely in places but it's great entertainment for her

@kiana2015 oh I see! Yes that does look very fun though

brummumma · 25/01/2025 20:34

I was as a single parent to twins at this age -use a play pen? Or stick them on bouncers or car seats by the bathroom door - doesn't rake longer than 5-10 mins to have a shower surely?

kiana2015 · 25/01/2025 20:35

@jannier she's never done this so far, but that's why I won't leave her unattended in it I know these things can happen, it's upstairs so she usually plays in it whilst I'm getting ready in the mornings and if I need to put washing away throughout the day

High chair in bathroom or get up and shower before husband leave for work

tealandteal · 25/01/2025 20:37

I call the item you posted a jumperoo, a bouncer to me is much smaller, closer to the ground little chair type thing that you can set bouncing. We had a very small ensuite but I would put them in that in the doorway while I showered and then moved them into the bedroom with me to get dressed. Showered every day but didn’t blow dry.

I can't let her cry it really stresses me, I know this is a problem and I need to fix it as everyone keeps telling me

I wwnt baby swim class once a week.
At home I showered then husband was at home.
Tbh 3 showers a week was fine.

Pelot · 25/01/2025 20:38

Get a bumbo seat and plonk it in front of the shower. Job done.

I made sure mine were fed, clean and content and put them in their cot while I had a quick shower. You just get up a bit earlier to prioritise getting yourself ready. I was on my own with my first three children, you find ways to cope and get on with it. Once you get into the flow of it, it gets easier.

This. Clean, happy and fed in the cot with toys, baby will be fine

Magnoliafarm · 25/01/2025 20:39

I basically had shit hair for the whole of mat leave. Then I started washing my hair in the showers at work. It's a rush to get out the house earlier but it's just guaranteed uninterrupted time, I don't have to squeegee my shower screen after, they even provide towels. My partner also showers at work. It's pretty great, we hardly ever have to clean our shower, no wet towels in a cold damp room

Oh like a bouncy chair? Yes she's definitely outgrown that now

@kiana2015 Other people can pipe all the way down. You're being responsive to your baby and there's HEAPS of data to back that up being the best way. What arses. Do not entertain them.

EmpressOfTheThread · 25/01/2025 20:40

Leave the baby safely in the cot. Shower in under 10 minutes!

MixedBananas · 25/01/2025 20:41

30mins is more then enough for a shower a long one with hair wash.
Also aftwr baby is fed and changed and happy pop DS onto bouncer playnat on the bathroom floor with some Nursery rhymes and toys. He is happy for a good 20mins and i can open the shower curtain and check in.

You just get used to it. I have a long pamper session when DH is home on the weekends. In the week it is quiick showers.
I have a 3 yr old and 5 month old. Having 1 is a breeze!

Yeah my parents are the biggest culprit culprit for this telling me she's spoilt and doing it for attention, I do prefer to not let her cry as I wouldn't like to be ignored while crying.
