How do you shower with a baby?

My DD is 9 months, I used to shower when she went down for her naps when she was newborn as she would nap for 3/4 hours. I'm not a single parent but DP works until 9:30pm. My DD naps half an hour max. I can't leave her in her bouncer unattended. How am I supposed to wash my hair? Please give me tips on what you do/did

I either get up before she does or have a very quick shower while she naps

Yourfootisinmysirachamayo · 25/01/2025 19:20

I just put her in the bouncer in the bathroom with me.

Meecrowahvey · 25/01/2025 19:20

Put her in her cot while you shower.

Either bring toys into the bathroom and she plays on the bathroom floor while you shower, or literally bring her into the shower with you and she sits on the floor in the shower and splashes in the water

Sotired22 · 25/01/2025 19:21

Can you do it when she’s gone to bed on an evening? If not then put her in the bath / shower with you! I’ve done that lots of times. Or sit her on the bathroom floor with toys and books!

Okdaisy · 25/01/2025 19:21

I put the highchair in the bathroom while I shower

comedycentral · 25/01/2025 19:22

I would put her in her cot and just have the monitor in the bathroom or the door open so you can hear her.

arethereanyleftatall · 25/01/2025 19:22

We have quite a large shower cubicle and if memory serves she sometimes came in with me and sat on the floor playing in the spray.

Bigfellabamboo · 25/01/2025 19:23

Before or after your partner gets home. Put her in cot with baby monitor. Bouncer in the bathroom. Sat in the bathroom with toys. Loads of possibilities really.

applebee33 · 25/01/2025 19:23

Brought mine in with me , sat in their bouncer watching me lol , as they got a bit bigger I would sit them on the floor of the bath shower and let them play with some water toys, they loved it

HundredPercentUnsure · 25/01/2025 19:23

Feely books and toys/ducks on the changing mat on the bathroom floor. Quick shower whilst drawing animals in the steam on the door.

Or, the easy option - shower before you go to bed. Relaxing wind down, washes off the day, reset for bedtime. Baby in cot, DP has the baby monitor. You can totally switch off, get warm and snug, wash and blow-dry hair, take as long as you need. Then go to bed. Bliss.

SErunner · 25/01/2025 19:24

In bouncer in bathroom with you. But equally, learn to shower quicker as 30 mins is plenty of time!

The trouble I found with baby in the shower cubicle with me at my feet was that rinsing products off/out my hair and raining down on baby was hard to avoid.

TheChosenTwo · 25/01/2025 19:26

Baby in a bouncer on the floor, I got really good at speedy showers without washing my hair in the mornings and had more indulgent baths and hair washes at night when dh was home! Although mine always took very long naps until they were about 3 so this didn’t happen often.

Yourfootisinmysirachamayo · 25/01/2025 19:20

I just put her in the bouncer in the bathroom with me.

This. Or in the cot with a couple of toys. Really showers had to be super quick. And then longer showers and hair washes at night time when DH is about.

fluffiphlox · 25/01/2025 19:28

Do you need 30 minutes for a shower?

mindutopia · 25/01/2025 19:30

At night after she’s asleep, or if for some reason that really wouldn’t work time wise, it would be after she had her bath (or during, because we had more than one bathroom). Dh always did bathtime and got them ready for bed.

TheUndoing · 25/01/2025 19:30

My baby’s only 4 months but currently I just stick him in the bouncer in the bathroom and he watches me/plays with toys.

bzarda · 25/01/2025 19:31

Either toys and books on the bathroom floor or she comes in with me to shower. I always wash my hair too, she's happy playing while I do it as long as she can see me

devastatedagain · 25/01/2025 19:32

Bring her in the bathroom with you and have a very quick shower.

Parker231 · 25/01/2025 19:33

DT’s were in their cots whilst I had a shower when DH wasn’t home.

Completelyjo · 25/01/2025 19:33

Surely if he works until 9:30 he’s not out of the house at 7:30am like a lot of husbands? So shower in the morning.

Fawn87 · 25/01/2025 19:34

I made sure mine were fed, clean and content and put them in their cot while I had a quick shower. You just get up a bit earlier to prioritise getting yourself ready. I was on my own with my first three children, you find ways to cope and get on with it. Once you get into the flow of it, it gets easier.

nolaandme · 25/01/2025 19:35

In the cot with some toys or in the bouncer/jumpraroo in the bathroom where she could see me

Lavender14 · 25/01/2025 19:37

I showered at night when my then husband was at home or I brought ds in to the bathroom in his bouncer so I could watch him in it. Or as he got older I put him in his cot and put something on my phone for him to watch, I try to save tv time for moments like these.
