Breast milk jewellery- cute or wierd?!

Okay.... so I can't decide if this is cute or WIERD.

But..... I am currently bf and drawing to the end of the journey- maybe another month or 2. I feel really sad about giving up but I know it's time.

I saw some breast milk jewellery where they use resin to make a pearl looking stone out of breast milk.

I thought maybe this would be a cute keepsake... if not to wear then maybe just a little heart shaped one to keep in a special box.

Thoughts on this? Cute? wierd?

Also- do you know of any other ideas for breastfeeding keepsakes/ souvenirs?

Yes I thought that would be the case.

And? No big deal.

HaroldsDoggyBowl · 10/01/2023 18:37

This is definitely one of the weirdest threads I've ever seen people get upset about.

I mean, who cares? No one would know my ring is made from breastmilk. I don't wear a label around it.

It doesn't hurt anyone, I love it and essentially, so what?

I think a lot of people on this thread couldn't feed their children and have unresolved issues in relation to it. Most of the breastfeeding mums I've met in real life are grounded and sane.

Do as you wish.

I imagine you wouldn't be so rude to people who have ashes made into a keepsake. I've no desire to wear my husband on my other hand, but if someone did? Again, so what?

@HaroldsDoggyBowl ”couldn’t feed their children”? As if it only counts if it’s breast milk. Absolutely fuck off with that language.

And no, it isn’t ‘issues’ with not being able to breast feed that mean some people don’t like it. People are just entitled to have different opinions. Not a hard concept.

@RandomCatGenerator ah.. defensive and abusive language. Sounds about right.

I'm afraid I did feed my children. I was the only one who could. I am very content with the language I've used here, thank you.

Formula wasn't for us. I think formula is marvellous, and thank goodness for it. But I fed my children.

And for the benefit of everyone else here: there is a profound difference between breastmilk and formula milk.

Breast is best. It's simple science.

I honestly couldn't of put it better myself in what you said. I have no issue with formula but I just love the fact I'm the one to feed him.

Funnily enough she breastfed me for over a year! Same with my 4 siblings.

What is the ‘profound’ difference out of interest?

Agree! So beneficial for baby and mother.

Because OP STARTED A THREAD TO ASK OPINIONS 😂 nobody has strolled up to someone to tell them how disgusting their bodily fluid jewellery is unwarranted. She asked and people are answering yet you seem to have such a hard time understanding that.

There’s a benefit, but it’s only noticeable at population level. That’s simple science as well but I’m guessing you won’t like that bit…

Well the fact its beneficial to baby and mother. The milk changed to the babies needs. It helps when baby is poorly. Formula isn't exactly natural.

Out of interest, what do you call it when someone feeds their child formula? Do they not also say “I fed my child”?

I breastfed for 8 months then moved onto formula just because I didn’t want to do it anymore. I always just said ‘feeding DD’, as in ‘I fed her an hour ago’ or whatever.

I can't get past the cynic in me that suspects it's a con. Some weirdo necking all the breast milk and making jewelry from his sperm. That type of thing.

TBH I think this is what makes me feel uncomfortable.

Cuppasoupmonster · 10/01/2023 19:17

On a serious note me as well. These ‘jewellers’ tend to be Etsy seller types, so you just have to take their word for it. I would be intrigued to know if the ‘stones’ are actually breastmilk but I suppose there’s nobody to check.

BridieConvert · 10/01/2023 19:40

@Emmamoo89 I've got plenty of photos of baba nursing. Nude or boob covered.

Good for you, I'm just saying the photos are enough for me. I personally wouldn't keep milk to be made into jewellery personally.
Everyone else can do what they like.

I just want to get a ring, that's it.

So you’re only grounded and sane if you wear your breastmilk around your neck?

I have absolutely zero unresolved issues about breastfeeding and breastfed my daughter. I just don’t see it as a personality trait nor do I assume anyone who has a different opinion to me has ‘unresolved issues’.

BunchHarman · 10/01/2023 20:30

Emmamoo89 · 10/01/2023 16:25

I would also like to point out it isn't attention seeking at all.

I loved breastfeeding. I feel so proud that I've manged to do it for 9 months and will continue to do it till he's 2. I love how my boobies comfort him. It is special. And I want a ring for my achievement and because I can.

IMO the way some women worship breastfeeding I can see why they get called the breastapo by bottle feeders

Totally agree @RampantIvy, as evidenced above… I know someone who has a badge on her coat that says ‘Golden Boobies’ for her ‘breastfeeding journey’.

I know someone who makes it. All the breast milk they get sent goes into a single pot and they make all the jewellery from it. 🫢 I may have to NC.
