@Kj1010 how old is your little one now? Sorry I get behind and forget! I have been reading up on weaning last night lol. (It's been 13 years since I've last done this and things have certainly changed plus don't remember everything!🤦🏼‍♀️) what did you first try? We are 21 weeks today. Sjes really interested in watching me eat lol so don't think we will be long!

Pinktruffle · 05/04/2021 23:55

My LO was really good last night, slept 8.30pm till 4am and the again till 8am after a feed at 4. Tonight he is making up for it, he wont even let me put him down and is only sleeping an hour before waking up. It's going to be a long night. Feels like one step forward, 2 steps back.

Charl88 · 06/04/2021 02:57

Is anyone else breastfeeding? Baby is 16 weeks and i'm still feeding 3 hourly even overnight and I don't know whether this is normal. It's killing me. He won't take a bottle or a dummy so I get no help. He won't nap in the day unless on me. He screams at my husband. I feel so lost and obsessed with his sleep and feeding. I'd be grateful for 2 wake ups 😢

@Jwl45 my lo is 17weeks he has been watching us for ages and we did start trying him a little earlier than ur supposed to but felt it was ok he is only eating a mineute amount of food though and not every day ino its mad how things have changed about feeding etc but his my 4th child so I do feel like I no what's best etc and the very first thing we tried was baby rice by aptamil then banana creamed porridge

kkr168 · 06/04/2021 09:19

@Charl88 sounds strange but give nipple shields a try 1st for a few days, it worked with my son, he'll still be feeding from you initially but will get used to the teat then. Also if your not already doing so have someone else feed the baby, whilst your not in the room, they can sense your there & would rather the real thing if it's available.

@Jwl45 it's been a while for me too but I believe like @Kj1010 I started with baby rice/porridge, just a few spoonfuls each morning. I looked after my niece when my SIL returned to work & we did baby led weaning, where they feed themselves from the get go, it is a messier option but she loved it.

Charl88 · 06/04/2021 10:50

@kkr168 I've not thought of that one thank you I will get some and give it a try. I'm desperate to get him just to have a bottle off husband once a day.

Jwl45 · 06/04/2021 12:19

@kkr168 @Kj1010 thank you. I was thinking porridge and thought some blended fruit.... oh and mash maybe.
Have thought about baby led.... not sure.... I can definitely see me doing the feeding ha. @Charl88 have you tried different teats? I use the closet to nature ones. I breastfed but luckily she took to the teat ok. X

Charl88 · 06/04/2021 12:37

@Jwl45 yes tried closer to nature, MAM and lansinoh but he just chews the teat and then gets cross after a few minutes of trying.

Pinktruffle · 06/04/2021 14:53

That sounds really tough @charl88, I have no suggestions as my son didn't latch so had formula feed but I really hope it let's up soon.

Pinktruffle · 06/04/2021 14:57

I think my LO is starting to get ready for food, he's 5 months next week. He is showing interest in my food when I'm eating and watches intently. His hand eye coordination isn't great yet though. He can hold his head up with no issues but can't balance to sit independently, is it still ok to wean? He sits in his Mamas and Papas booster chair thing.

I think I'll start with pureed food but I've seen a few nutritionalist (proper qualified ones, not people who did a course on Wowcher) online saying to skip baby porridge/rice and start with pureed vegetable if not doing babyled weaning so I'm considering doing that. I may incorporate some babyled weaning but we'll see

Jwl45 · 06/04/2021 16:45

@Pinktruffle Elsi can't sit independently yet, we do have a bumbo seat and a highchair though so will start weaning soon. I did read about fruit and veg too and to offer broccoli or something like that as opposed to sweet potato and carrots which taste sweeter. I shall dig out the blender and see.... but was thinking porridge, fruit and mash. I have bought suction bowls, a drinking cup , spoons, plates all ready to go. How exciting 😊 looking forward to see what she makes of it all.
@charl88 oh no... yes agree, try nipple shields if you can bear them maybe? I agree with someone else feeding too. When I introduced the bottle here, I didn't feed her with it for a good few days .... left it to hubby or my older girls! X

Kj1010 · 06/04/2021 17:47

www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0857K6BY2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share&tag=mumsnetforu03-21 I have these also for my lo he holds this and I can put in any thing and he gets the nutrients from it without choking can put fruit veg etc in it helps if they teething aswell havent got a high chair yet he currently eats in bouncer but that sits upright my lo is trying to sit up can sit for a few seconds then tips lol he currently has found his voice love listening to him babble on so funny

OP posts:
Pinktruffle · 06/04/2021 21:00

@Jwl45 ahh yeah, the bumbo seat is the same one we have, think I bought it on your recommendation! We have a high chair too, we got the Stokke Tripp Trapp so hoping it'll be used for a good few years but we haven't assembled it yet. I'm quite excited about weaning - though I might not feel that way in 2 months time haha.

I've signed myself up for a baby/infant first aid course which is in May, so will likely do that before I give him anything other than pureed food.

I've looked at those before @kj1010, they look like a pain to clean. I think I will get some for when we (are allowed to) go out and about good from a safety point of view like you said and also better for not dropping etc.

Kj1010 · 06/04/2021 21:30

@Pinktruffle they ain't hard to clean at all really easy my lo loves them

OP posts:
Jwl45 · 07/04/2021 09:23

@Kj1010 what sort of things do you put in these? Have you used them from the beginning of weaning ? Thinking of weaning in the next few weeks

Kj1010 · 07/04/2021 09:30

@Jwl45 hiya yes basically used straight from weaning I put strawberries grapes blueberries banana even though u can mash that tomatoes gonna start with vegetables this week the twat isnt massive so you do have to cut the stuff up bit I find it great for my lo as he gets to taste all different things as soon as he gets it it goes straight to his mouth well anything he holds does I defo think he is teething to which this helps with to

OP posts:
Kj1010 · 07/04/2021 09:31

Teat so sorry bloody predicted text

OP posts:
Pinktruffle · 07/04/2021 13:15

Thanks @Kj1010, I think I will order one! Can't believe how quickly my little one is growing up and we are talking about giving them food!

Kj1010 · 07/04/2021 13:25

@Pinktruffle I know it is going way to fast can I ask everyone how they feel in general with there selfs health wise body etc I dunno if its because I'm a older mum but since having my lo I just have days where I dont feel right at all in myself I dont know if I'm starting menopause or what my mum thought she was going through menopause when she found at she was pregnant at 45 then dis after having my sister it is hard to explain as I'm not in pain etc but just dont feel right to scared to go doctors incase they do tests and find something serious ie cancer etc I'm quite a anxious person and do feel like my anxiety creeps up alot lately and I think it's worse since having lo as I worry all the time about dying and him not having a mum around I know ppl can feel like that at any age

OP posts:
viixie · 07/04/2021 13:56

@Charl88 let me know if you find a solution. My little one won't take the bottle either and now screams at the sight of one 😩 dress having to go out and leave her

viixie · 07/04/2021 13:59

@Kj1010 how old are you and what symptoms do you have ?

Kj1010 · 07/04/2021 14:11

@viixie I'm 42 just anxious moods change its hard to describe about my body just dont feel 100% but it's not everyday like I dont no if what I'm experiencing now is period symptoms like I came on a week before my due date and I know my body in that 2 weeks before I'm due I get the painful breasts pains in womb area etc I really dont know but one thing I do no is that it's making me feel anxious today like worrying something is seriously wrong

OP posts:
viixie · 07/04/2021 15:06

@Kj1010 sounds like anxiety unless you can pinpoint anything in particular. I know how you feel, I often worry that something minor is something sinister. It definitely became worse for me after becoming a parent. I worry about leaving them, that's my biggest fear. Hope you start to feel a bit better soon x

Jwl45 · 07/04/2021 15:14

@Kj1010 well that has made me quite literally laugh out loud.. twat / teat!🤣🤣

Jwl45 · 07/04/2021 15:29

@Kj1010 so you just pop the fruit in as it is? How easy. Yes I thought about mashing a banana to see how we go.

On a mum feeling note, I'm an older mum too.. 45! I'm feeling fine.. apart from bad elbows! I'm sure that's due to holding, feeding, carrying the super heavy car seat, pushing the pram etc. My ankles feel a little stiff too but again I'm sure it's extra weight and also the fact that I havent properly exercised since finding out I was pregnant.... I took it really easy as felt as I was older I had to be careful. Daft maybe.
I still feel fat! I'm sure that's Xmas weight and not baby weight lol.
The only thing that is bothering me slightly is that I have a leaky breast. I finished feeding on left breast back in December. I kept feeding on right side until last month. Left breast has leaked all the way through.... as obviously the right side was still producing milk. However since stopping completely, the left still leaks.... not loads but enough. Nothing from right. I did speak to doc last week on phone - he was quite chilled though and said to give it a few more weeks... hope it's nothing more than that.

I am a worrier also and get myself into a right tiz at times; i read things and then think oh gosh what if I have this that and the other! Ita hard not to worry isn't it as we have these gorgeous little people so dependent on us and you just want to be there and be the best you can for them don't you?
@Kj1010 Perhaps it is your body adapting .... I had my first period since having Elsi last week... I was starting to worry it wasn't coming at all 🤣
