Morning all well my lb was 5 months yesterday and weighs 18lbs only going by weighing myself and the him with me as my clinics still not really seeing anyone yet I think that's ok im sure I've read they put on roughly a lb a month but I'm not worried he eats well and drinks 5/6 bottles a day at 6 ounces he is also sleeping right through like a good 7/8 hours with the exception of every now and the waking for a bottle or a cuddle so the sleep we are getting now is fantastic how is everyone else doing in the weaning sleeping stages etc

Sleep is great here and weaning going well. I've been filling in my little age cards based on weeks ... although counting as months until my hubby told me I was wrong 🤦🏼‍♀️
So we are not quite 6 months... 24 weeks 😏🤣

Kj1010 · 27/04/2021 13:35

Oh I've done the same with them cards lol oh well we arnt far off lol

I feel like I'm losing my mind. Baby is 19 weeks and he will not be with anyone but me. He cries at hubby if I leave just to go to the shop. My mum had him for an hour yesterday so I could take my 3 Yr old to toddler group for 1:1 time with him and baby just screamed the whole time. He won't take a bottle He won't take a dummy I don't want to breastfeed anymore. I'm trapped with him constantly with no help despite ppl trying. I cant stop crying and I feel like I'm losing it as I'm obsessed with his feeding and sleep. I've not had more than 3 hours sleep since he was born.
I'm not even after advice as I've tried everything but I don't know where to turn anymore. You all seem to be doing so well and I feel I've gone very wrong somewhere with him

Kj1010 · 28/04/2021 11:05

@Charl88 oh hun I'm so sorry you are having a rough time with your beautiful baby I ain't even gonna try and give advice is I wouldnt no where to start you are doing a amazing job you havent done nothing wrong at all some babies are just very clingy to mum my lo even though he does go to brothers and sisters and dad he can be very whingy and only want me like if I leave a room and he cant see me that's its he whinges the important thing is to remember you are doing a fantastic job even though you may not feel like it can I ask have you tried to wean him on to food yet also a thing u cud try is maybe wrapping ur self in one of his blankets so ur scent goes on to it or even a top of urs and maybe wrapping him in it wen with ur partner or a family member so he has ur scent that might calm him so you can get some me time for yourself it's very hard this is my 4th and I cant remember my other three being as demanding and clingy as this one xx

Jwl45 · 28/04/2021 11:55

@Charl88 oh I don't think you've gone wrong at all lovely. As @Kj1010 said, some babies are more clingy than others. The perfume blanket idea sounds like a plan. I'm sure you've already done so, but how about a chat to your health visitor ? See if she can advise? Hang in there, you ate doing an amazing job ... sending hugs. 🤗xx

kkr168 · 28/04/2021 17:55

Oh @Charl88 that sounds very stressful, I agree with @Kj1010 to start weaning asap if you haven't already. This may go against the grain but if you really want to stop, then stop (easier said then done) & only offer bottles. Yes the baby will cry, scream, etc & it will be a really awful few days but if your baby is hungry they will eventually feed from the bottle. Maybe try over the weekend (if OH doesn't work then) so that you can walk away for a break if things get to much, rope your mum in too so you can take it in shifts, or even if she takes your other LO out for the day to keep him occupied.

tigerbreadandtea · 29/04/2021 04:22

Oh my god I've finally found you all. It's me, peachy but I've name changed. Matilda is five months and I'm finding mat leave a bit hard. Have just started a baby group in person once a week so hoping to meet some mums there. I do have a local friend who works four days a week and has one day off but her sister has just had a baby so she spends her day off with her not me! I just wish I had more people to meet up with in the day. The days are very long.
I'm not in a rush to wean, planning to wait until six months.
I fully switched to formula at theee months after worries about tongue tie, poor weight gain etc and it's much better for us.
Baby is still in 0-3 month clothing and still fits her Moses basket downstairs which kind of meant we haven't needed to do a proper routine at night because she's just snooze in there but I want to implement one now. I never experienced the sleep regression at four months at night but her daytime sleep is shocking. I feel like I spend most of my day trying to get her to nap. It's so tiring. I'm so glad this thread is still going.

kkr168 · 29/04/2021 09:52

We've been letting Tommy sleep in our bed far to much lately, just because he tends to wake far less that way. Last night I decided to bite the bullet & refused to have him in our bed, I also took away his dummy!! We had an awful hour of crying & screaming but he eventually settled & went to sleep, he woke at 10pm for his bottle & went straight back down. He then woke at 1am (very unusual for him) & drank a whole bottle, he woke again at 4am & I thought I'd just try patting him for reassurance before giving a bottle & he went straight back to sleep until 6.30am. So far so good this morning, we have a busy day today, so hopefully he's kept so busy he doesn't get a chance to miss his dummy.

Welcome back peachy 👋

Kj1010 · 29/04/2021 10:13

Welcome back @tigerbreadandtea aka peachy my lo sleeps in with us has been for ages as we couldnt keep undoing the up every hour on the hour as soon as he was in with us he slept fine he goes down between 9_10 pm most around 9.10 and normally wakes like 6 to 7 am but last few nights been waking for a bottle around the 2 to 3ish mark but straight back to sleep after bottle he goes to sleep on his own so we get to have a hour or so us time just watching a film or a chat etc he hasn't fitted in moses as to long and strong we are looking into getting hom his own little bed soon our house is so tiny he has to share with us and our bedroom is small that's why we have put off getting a bed lol but I dont mind I love having him so close to me i know he will be fine when he goes into his own bed to I'm yet to try without the dummy yet he is very attached to it so gotta feeling this one gonna be a hard one to remove @charl88 how are you hun I do hope you are ok and taking care of yourself

OP posts:
Yellowbeansontoast · 29/04/2021 10:18

@Charl88 sorry you're feeling this way! Please don't beat yourself up, you haven't done anything wrong and I'm sure there's lots of these pandemic babies who are attached to their mummies at the hip. Like others have said, if you really want to stop then you shouldn't feel bad about it. Baby will scream for a day or two, but don't worry, they're clever and will eventually eat, he's not gonna starve himself. Would leaving baby with someone else for the day be an option for you? I heard they are more likely to take a bottle if mum is not there.

@kkr168 good luck with the dummy weaning! We tried going cold turkey a couple of weeks ago but it involved a bit too much crying for me, so now we put him to bed without it, but if still crying after 10 mins we give it to him. It's working okay, I'd say he settles without it about 80% of the time.

@tigerbreadandtea good to hear from you again :)

Jwl45 · 29/04/2021 18:10

@tigerbreadandtea ah welcome back. It's certainly
not been the maternity leave we were all expecting has it been? No groups, swimming etc. Lovely that you have found somewhere... there's still nothing here yet. I am now at the point where I think can I be bothered? I'll be back in work soon!
Can't wait to take her swimming though.
Talking of work, my maternity pay this month is shocking! Rubbish! 😢

kkr168 · 29/04/2021 20:31

Dummy removal update.......
He has been fine the majority of the day, we had 1 screaming episode at 1 nap time for about 30 minutes, tonight at bed time he only cried for 5 minutes. Much easier then I thought it would be, hopefully tomorrow is even better.

@tigerbreadandtea How are you finding the baby group? We've been going to music bugs, it's a very different experience to how classes usually are! Everyone sat apart, no singing, it's a bit hard making mum friends when we're wearing masks & being kept separate, hopefully it'll get better when the restrictions change in may. Would your friend not be up for meeting up with you & her sister at the same time? Maybe suggest meeting them both for a walk in a local park, woods, etc.

@Jwl45 We've been swimming twice now, Tommy really doesn't know what to make of it, he didn't cry so that's a plus lol. We're going again Saturday, trying to go at least once a week.

Jwl45 · 29/04/2021 20:34

@kkr168 that's fab! Im so jealous lol.
Swimming pools aren't open here yet 😢.

Kj1010 · 30/04/2021 09:08

@Jwl45 maternity pay does suck I wasnt entitled to it as I dont earn enough so i was getting omp occupation maternity pay which they didnt have to do and i only got it for 18 weeks so i had to apply off the government for maternity allowance so that had helped massively even though is less than my wage and i only get that till august then i get nothing till i go back to work in december

OP posts:
Jwl45 · 30/04/2021 10:13

@Kj1010 to get nothing is so hard isn't it?
I know I'm fortunate to have had 90% for a couple of months but then when this time pf your leave comes and drops to almost nothing, its a shock.
I'm going back in July I think. I've still not properly decided... 🤣 Wish I didn't have to at all mind. I'm loving being home.

Kj1010 · 30/04/2021 10:18

@jwl45 yeah I have been thinking do I want to go back but it's only 2 hours a day and I'd be home before he probably be awake so I really should dont know how I'm gonna adjust to getting up at 5am though lol

Pinktruffle · 30/04/2021 15:43

@tigerbreadandtea lovely to have you back! I do share some of your feeling, as others have said, it's not the maternity leave we expected. I've started going to Hartbeeps with my LO, was hoping to make some mum friends there but they all seem to have come in twos I.e. with a friend so I'm finding it quite isolating though they chat with me a little bit.

I don't think I'll make any mum friends unfortunately. I don't have tons of friends where I live as I moved here a couple of years ago to be with DH. All the friends I do have are at work in the day and none have children so I am finding it all quite lonely. I love my son and enjoying spending time with him but do feel a bit sorry for myself, I'd hoped for a very different experience.

On the positives, he is sleeping well for the most part. He usually wakes up once for milk but the other night he slept 11 and a half hours without waking! He was starving when he woke up, bless him. We have a little tooth poking through too and weaning is going well. I think he will outgrow his Snuzpod soon, his nursery is set up but I still don't feel ready to let him sleep alone so we will see what happeneds. He has never slept in his room/cot yet, only played in it whilst I do chores.

tigerbreadandtea · 30/04/2021 15:58

@Pinktruffle do you have a local FB group? Post in there and you'll find loads of other mums, you could just suggest meeting in your local park, that has happened where I live and I went along today and met lots of lovely mums.

Pinktruffle · 30/04/2021 20:54

Thanks for the tip @tigerbreadandtea, I'll take a look and see if I can find anything.

tigerbreadandtea · 30/04/2021 20:57

Honestly it's made me feel a lot more positive

Kj1010 · 01/05/2021 10:52

Morning all well I had a panicking moment yesterday as you know I've been weaning my lb it is going well he is loving most foods well anyway he had a number 2 and when I looked it had loads and loads of black in it like cotton thread so i panicked rang health visitor and was asked if I had given him banana which I had a few days previous she said it is the banana and nothing really to be concerned with it then I get told I shouldnt be weaning him till 6 months even though there is food in shops from 4 months was told that's just advertising and if I am to wean early do my own food which I do do I'm just waiting on my blender to come to make it easier she also said I shouldnt really wean till he can hold his own head and take food himself and put in mouth that I found weird as I told her he can hold his own head and he takes food and puts in mouth been doing that for ages she seemed shocked lol but anyway my point is if this happens to ur lo just no if u have them banana that is the cause of it

@Kj1010 thank you for the heads up. I wouldn't worry about the 6mo advice - that's just the general advice given by the NHS, but in many other countries it is actually 4 months. My LO's paediatrician actually told us to start as soon as he turned 4 months but I felt it was too early for him, so we haven't yet.
