How many Easter eggs do you get your children ??

I have a 5 year old and is an only child and she always does so well as we come from a large family so will receive Easter eggs from both grandparents, aunties uncles etc
So this year as a single parent and a bit strapped for cash I'm thinking of getting my dd just 3 Easter eggs I would normally do a lot more and maybe a soft toy or a small toy. I feel bad but I think it's a waste of money and over exaggerated !
Just wondering what other parents do/or how many eggs they get ?

Just one small one each and a pack of eggs for an egg hunt. We also have simnel cake. That's it!

Loveatortie · 19/03/2021 20:42

One

WildWaterSwimmer · 19/03/2021 20:42

One each. Any more is completely unnecessary.

  1. We tell grandparents not to get her any as she always seems to have lots of sweets from Christmas/birthdays

One egg or chocolate bunny or similar, maybe a bag of mini eggs if they’re on offer in the run up and we’re having a movie night or something. When they were small the tradition was they’d get one nice summer outfit as an Easter present too (as my parents always did for me). They always got something from family, or from groups or activities or something too. Or our church would do an Easter egg hunt.

chiefbrain · 19/03/2021 20:49

One Lindt bunny usually from us. They also get from grandparents and uncles and aunties so get plenty. When they were little, they got actual presents and very little chocolate

RoomAtTheEndOfTheWorld · 19/03/2021 20:50

One, don't know why you'd buy more than one to be honest, especially if he gets them from family too.Confused
Although I may not get him any this year as similarly, big families both sides so he gets loads every year and we're still working our way through Christmas chocolate.
Plus his Auntie has already bought him the egg I was going to buy him.
Will do an egg hunt in the garden though.
I use plastic refillable eggs which are going strong many years later.
When he was young I filled them with tiny chocolates, stickers and balloons.
Later on with Lego. May do that again this year as there's always more Lego sets he wants.

ShipOfTheseus · 19/03/2021 20:51

One. And I would ask grandparents and aunties not to get Easter eggs too. Or if they must give eggs, don’t you get them an egg as well.

GreenTeaPingPong · 19/03/2021 20:53

One.
And maybe hide some small eggs to find.
And they get no eggs from any relatives.
Why does everything have to be excessive these days?

crystalcherry87 · 19/03/2021 21:24

About 6 each off me and about 3 each off grandparents. I don't know anyone who buys their kid one egg in real life.

purplebiscuits · 19/03/2021 21:25

First year she's had one now she's 3 an old enough to understand.

She's got a soft teddy one from us and for an egg hunt she's got 3 of those 3 for £1 little Easter themed chocolates a couple of cheap teddy chicks and some little toy bits that will fit in plastic eggs.

I want to make it a brilliant day after how the last year has been - even got Easter decs!

35andThriving · 19/03/2021 21:25

Zero usually - They get 3 from other people. I am planning on buying one too this year though. So 4 assuming those that usually buy them do again this year.

MazDazzle · 19/03/2021 21:30

I’ve only ever bought my kids 1 egg each. It wouldn’t cross my mind to buy more.

I also do a hint round the garden for mini eggs.

Gice · 19/03/2021 21:33

One and I buy a bag or two of small eggs for a hunt. It honestly never occurred to me that people gave more than one egg each. Mine usually get another 3/4 eggs from family.

Ragwort · 19/03/2021 21:33

It's a nice suggestion to buy an Easter Egg for the Food Bank but please check that your local FB actually wants them ... last year at the FB I volunteer at we were inundated with Easter Eggs and (fortunately) we don't have that many DC/families using our FB so we struggled to give them out.

StarCourt · 19/03/2021 21:42

Have always only bought one for DD but she also gets one at her dads.

Justajot · 19/03/2021 21:44

Ours get one of their choice from us, generally a big one - 250g ish. Then we have a few little ones for a hunt. That's it though, none from relatives - my parents wouldn't think to buy one as we only got one each as kids and my PIL have accepted that one is enough, so tend to buy a gift instead.

daisyjgrey · 19/03/2021 21:44

The word 'egg' has lost all meaning. I'm now almost entirely convinced it is a fictitious word.

dottiedaisee · 19/03/2021 21:45

Mine always got two each and then eggs from relatives. They lasted for ages.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 19/03/2021 21:45

One egg each from us, plus eggs or money in lieu from both sets of grandparents. I make an Easter cake and there is a special Sunday tea (i.e. lots of treaty stuff) because we eat the main meal at lunchtime 🙂

CovidSucks5356 · 19/03/2021 21:47

One from the Easter Bunny, 1 from his grandparents and then we do an Easter hunt with his cousins for the small eggs and choc lollies etc. He doesn't get anything from us specifically Blush

AnneElliott · 19/03/2021 21:51

We get DS a present as he gets so many eggs from family. Otherwise we'd be eating them through the summer!!

Danutaisabully · 19/03/2021 21:54

I buy my DD 3. Then she gets one from each set of grandparents. She usually eats them over a few weeks.

BuggeringBugger · 19/03/2021 22:14

1, family used to get several each for them but we asked them to cut down as it was a lot of food waste often and they did so in total they usually end up with about 4

Ikeatears · 19/03/2021 22:34

This thread made me laugh. Only on Mumsnet is more than egg excessiveGrin Most people I know in RL get their children multiple eggs plus some get clothes/gifts. Mine probably end up with about 4, plus usually some sort of egg hunt and grandparents normally send a bit of cash for them. To each their own though🤷🏼‍♀️
