How many Easter eggs do you get your children ??

I have a 5 year old and is an only child and she always does so well as we come from a large family so will receive Easter eggs from both grandparents, aunties uncles etc
So this year as a single parent and a bit strapped for cash I'm thinking of getting my dd just 3 Easter eggs I would normally do a lot more and maybe a soft toy or a small toy. I feel bad but I think it's a waste of money and over exaggerated !
Just wondering what other parents do/or how many eggs they get ?

Most people I know in RL get their children one egg only. Only in Mumsnet have I heard of people giving multiple eggs to their own children. Baffling.

purpleme12 · 19/03/2021 22:39

Well I'd get her one
If she has others they'd come from other people
The Easter bunny brings something - that tends to be some mini individual eggs rather than Easter eggs

PickAChew · 19/03/2021 22:40

Got Ds1 a bag of mini eggs and might get him something if it goes on sale after Easter. It's not like he hasn't had a steady supply of creme eggs and malteaster bunnies, this month.

None for ds2 as chocolate makes him puke.

One. That’s it. Who needs more than one?

Lucaslucas1612 · 19/03/2021 22:43

I don't understand this need to get dcs multiple presents and Easter eggs at Easter. Why do they need more than one egg? I don't understand this more, more, more lifestyle that seems to be the norm. My dcs have one egg each and some smaller ones from an Easter egg hunt. They might also get a couple from grandparents and that's it.

Bimblybomeyelash · 19/03/2021 22:45

None! They get plenty of eggs from family they don’t need any from me too.

WaterBottle123 · 19/03/2021 22:46

@longhaulstress

Mumsnet is so different to my real life sometimes. I don't know anyone who buys their dc's just one (unless a baby)) I end up buying mine around 5/6 each then some smaller treats. I love it and most of the eggs only cost about £1.

Although with family and friends buying they can sometimes end up with around 15 each which is pretty excessive but hey I always help them out if they're struggling!

@longhaulstress

I read your first sentence and assumed the follow up was 'I don't know anyone who buys more then 1 egg'

My kids get 1 each from me, why on earth would I buy more?

Popcornbetty · 19/03/2021 22:46

Being particularly pedantic it depends on the size of the eggs in question surely aswell. The small ones are tiny so 2 or 3 of those might equal 1 of the larger ones. Only on MN would people be competing to who can give the least chocolate. I'm waiting for a post coming to up to say somebody molds their own eggs made out of a sugar free chocolate subsitute and rationed according to age and weight of said child.

Who knew that there was so much superiority over how many Easter eggs you buy! Had obesity. Someone going to link the amount you buy to your social class next? Destruction of the world?

BravoWhiskey · 19/03/2021 22:47

I don't give my DC any. The Easter Bunny, however, brings absolutely loads. We love Easter!

Popcornbetty · 19/03/2021 22:47

on*

chocolateoranges33 · 19/03/2021 22:52

About 5 each. The older 2 have 1 large one 2 mediums and 2 small. Toddler has 2 boxes of Easter egg hunt eggs to find plus 4 small eggs. Ive got my dh 3 too. They then get more from family - usually have around 12 each year.

iamtheoneandonlyyy · 19/03/2021 23:09

@daisyjgrey that was my thought too Grin

PerspicaciousGreen · 19/03/2021 23:11

Mine aren't old enough yet, but thinking back to my old childhood, your Easter egg plans sound NUTS. "Just" three Easter eggs from you?! PLUS multiple ones from other relatives!? We got ONE Easter egg, from our parents ONLY, and SOMETIMES got a little extra like a bag of mini eggs.

If my children were getting that many from relatives, I wouldn't be buying them any from me. I'd save my money to get them something in the big gap between Easter and Christmas.

Please don't make Easter the new Christmas. You're creating a rod for your own back here.

Frazzled2207 · 19/03/2021 23:12

One big egg each and then set up an egg hunt where they find some more.
They will get another one from my parents and probably some other small ones from teacher, beavers etc
That will be more than enough

Doje · 19/03/2021 23:13

I buy one for them, my parents get one too, and usually DH's parents send a choc bunny or something similar. I then normally 'crack' (geddit?!) and will do an egg hunt in the garden with about 8 smaller eggs.

Honestly, me too! I've never heard of anyone getting/giving their children actual presents at Easter either - you know, like Easter baskets and stuff. I've only ever heard of that on Pinterest. Surely once you have half a dozen eggs from relatives, they won't even notice "only" an extra three?
OverByYer · 19/03/2021 23:16

1 each

Cocopogo · 19/03/2021 23:19

They get one off me and a book off GPs. We don’t have any other family who buy them anything

Of course one egg is normal. This thread is sponsored by Cadbury's to whip up hysteria and boost their flagging sales.

carolinesbaby · 19/03/2021 23:23

One each.

They'll get another one each off their adult siblings. Maybe a little one off their auntie.
Why would you get more?

ArmchairTraveller · 19/03/2021 23:27

They used to get two, one from us and one from my parents.
Then there was confusion one year, and it went up to three.
My parents are now out of the picture, so it’s still three, because it’s one from each parent and one from their sibling.
One child made their eggs last almost a month, the other used to end up in a chocolate coma by Monday.

Joiningthegossip · 19/03/2021 23:30

One each, wouldn't even consider buying them more than 1 each.
I buy the tiny eggs and hide them round the house & garden then they get the big egg at the end.

BluebellsGreenbells · 19/03/2021 23:31

This post explains why some kids boast about their large stash of eggs to show how popular they are! Turns out it’s mum’s buying multiple eggs! Who knew!

Pinchoftums · 19/03/2021 23:33

We do one big one (which is little compared to most but the ones you get for a £1 at Poundland) and then about 2 Cadbury creme eggs and 10 mini eggs in a hunt. My mum gets them a rabbit from Aldi. They are more than happy with that!
